[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-96 and nvidia-173 uninstallable on Precise

2012-07-18 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Hello Jean-Baptiste, or anyone else affected,

Accepted nvidia-graphics-drivers-173-updates into precise-proposed. The
package will build now and be available at
http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-
drivers-173-updates/173.14.35-0ubuntu0.1 in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please change the bug tag from
verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not, change the
tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing
will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

I get a Xorg crash a couple of times per week. Looking at the

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1026046] [NEW] Missing support for thumb resting on bottom of clickpad

2012-07-18 Thread niklaskb
Public bug reported:

When using the trackpad on the MacBook Pro In Mac OS X it is possible to have
the thumb resting (ready to click) on the bottom part of the touchpad while
moving the mouse pointer around with your index or middle finger.
Likewise it is also possible to use two finger scrolling with the index and
middle finger on the upper part on the track pad while resting the thumb on the
lower part of the trackpad.

This behaviour is not currently supported with the synaptics driver in
12.04. It wil register a two finger scroll when the thumb is resting in
the bottom part and index finger moves around in the upper part.

I have tried playing aroud with the setting AreaBottomEdge that disables
all motion on the bottom part of the touchpad. Unfortunately when this
setting is enabled it still detects a finger in the area, so it wil
register a two finger scroll like before.

** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)

2012-07-18 Thread Pellaeon
Hi, I am also having similiar problem on Acer TimelineX 4830tg, which
has:

Intel Sandy Bridge graphics (HD3000)
Nvidia Geforce GT540M

But for me not only resuming from suspend will trigger this issue,
simply lock the screen would.

Locking the screen would leave me my original desktop but a darker color
(like a black area with 0.5 opacity over the screen).

Resuming from suspend would sometimes leave me a totally black screen
with cursor functioning just as others described, but sometimes also a
original desktop with darker color.

I use Unity3D on 3.2.0-26-generic kernel (the official repo version)

xserver-xorg-video-intel version is 2:2.19.0-0ubuntu1~xup1 (from x-swat
PPA)

Here is a similiar bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-

Continuing to have this problem using 302.17 from the Ubuntu repository.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1021517] Re: Xorg-server crashes reproducible with GIMP usage

2012-07-18 Thread melchiaros
@Luke

It is a bit uncommen, but...

Bughandling in a sense of prepare bugs, until the quality has reached a
level where developers can at best easily handle the issues, is a
community driven thing, because there are much more reports than hands
for handling.

I have read your comments and they are good and have helped to figure
out was is going wrong. If there is interest to do that in a broader
way you may want to read

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BugSquad

I also invest not to much time, just as much as that I help to close
more bugs then I open up.

Greeting melchiaros

I post this here, because you have not given a e-mail adress to
launchpad for sending you private mails.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-07-18 Thread ConEG
Posted here about two months ago. Can't believe this problem is still
going on. This is the second driver in a row that i've had problems with
from Nvidia.

@Reason: Can you confirm whether or not the problem has cropped up yet
after your kernel update or is it still working well?

Anyone know what is happening with this? Are Nvidia aware? Is there a
fix being worked on?

2012-07-18 Thread asala
In my case, with a fully updated ubuntu 12.04 as of today, it happened to me
twice... and many windows were actually just a couple of Nautilus, one
Firefox, one Thunderbird... clicking on the top unity icon (trying to open a
new application) froze everything once the dash was displayed, with four
windows.
Dual display 1360x768 plus 1280 x 800... (1360x1568), seems that something gets

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1024750] [NEW] Calibre crashes the window manager on start-up

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

On my computer after setting the calibre user interface to slim any further

metacity).
Gnome-shell did complain about a modal dialog with a ridiculously high minimal
size.

Then I deleted all remains find -name calibre found from my home directoryand
started anew.
This time a dialog popped up asking me where to put the library. A soon as I
answer this question the window manager crashes again.

After switching to wm2 as window manager I got the following error
messages:

Before the window manager crashes my computer starts rapidly eating up
any swap space I have (I use 4 Gigs of RAM and 10 Gigs of Swap).and all
processes that run for a longer time (e.G. ogmrip) tend to get killed.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1024750] Re: Calibre crashes the window manager on start-up

2012-07-18 Thread melchiaros
Sory, for the confusion it has become late in my timezone and
concentration has become low.

Anyway,
what we see here is a xorg crash.

What we need is a stacktrace of it.

1.Then reproduce the crash.

2.Log in again and run

apport-collect 1024750

from terminal.

Where there is a warning message that you are not the original reporter
- ignore it.

When we have luck the XorgOld.log should have a valuable stacktrace in
it and I can isolate it(or you if you want) and give as comment here.

The best would be when the reproducing would be done under unity
desktop.

Many thanks in advance

melchiaros

Please only one person(the first) do the apport-collect. The later ones should
only identifying and reporting back. When it is not the same we do a separate
report.

When the apport-collect run is done please set the status of the report back to
confirmed.

I completely removed the nvidia driver and now I'm using the Nouveau

I cant believe, the Nouveau is really more better than the proprietary

fine right now.

I'm really sad with Ubuntu, two months later the realease and we dont
have a fix for this ridiculous problem...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013881] Re: Right-Ctrl key broken on French OSS keyboard

2012-07-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package xkeyboard-config - 2.5-1ubuntu1.3

---
xkeyboard-config (2.5-1ubuntu1.3) precise-proposed; urgency=low

  * Add 113_ossmath_is_five_levels.patch: Some keymaps like fr(oss) fail to
load because they include ossmath (via keypad(oss)) which
misconfigures the keypad as 4-level when it should be 5-level. This
patch from upstream bugzilla fixes this by adding the 5th level to the
ossmath definition.
(LP: #985065)
  * Drop 109_fr_oss_space_char.patch change; the fix causes behavioral
changes for right control which a fr(oss) user did not like.
(LP: #1013881)

xkeyboard-config (2.5-1ubuntu1.2) precise-proposed; urgency=low

  * Add 111_cz_ssharp.patch: Fix mapping of 4th level of the AC11 key to
ssharp rather than quotedbl for the Czech layout. Cherrypick of
patch from upstream.
(LP: #953477)
  * Add 112_dk_dvorak_tilde.patch: Fix tilde key in the Danish Dvorak
layout. It's not the same as Norwegian as has been assumed previously.
(LP: #989626)

xkeyboard-config (2.5-1ubuntu1.1) precise-proposed; urgency=low

  * Add 109_fr_oss_space_char.patch: Fix problems using space bar in various
applications when using the fr(oss) keymap.
(was for LP bug 221112)
  * Add 110_dead_hook_horn.patch: Add two deadkeys on level 3 and 4 of the
j key for the latin keymap.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 825624] Re: patch: added dead_hook and dead_horn to latin keyboard layout

2012-07-18 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package xkeyboard-config - 2.5-1ubuntu1.3

---
xkeyboard-config (2.5-1ubuntu1.3) precise-proposed; urgency=low

  * Add 113_ossmath_is_five_levels.patch: Some keymaps like fr(oss) fail to
load because they include ossmath (via keypad(oss)) which
misconfigures the keypad as 4-level when it should be 5-level. This
patch from upstream bugzilla fixes this by adding the 5th level to the
ossmath definition.
(LP: #985065)
  * Drop 109_fr_oss_space_char.patch change; the fix causes behavioral
changes for right control which a fr(oss) user did not like.
(LP: #1013881)

xkeyboard-config (2.5-1ubuntu1.2) precise-proposed; urgency=low

  * Add 111_cz_ssharp.patch: Fix mapping of 4th level of the AC11 key to
ssharp rather than quotedbl for the Czech layout. Cherrypick of
patch from upstream.
(LP: #953477)
  * Add 112_dk_dvorak_tilde.patch: Fix tilde key in the Danish Dvorak
layout. It's not the same as Norwegian as has been assumed previously.
(LP: #989626)

xkeyboard-config (2.5-1ubuntu1.1) precise-proposed; urgency=low

  * Add 109_fr_oss_space_char.patch: Fix problems using space bar in various
applications when using the fr(oss) keymap.
(was for LP bug 221112)
  * Add 110_dead_hook_horn.patch: Add two deadkeys on level 3 and 4 of the
j key for the latin keymap.
(LP: #825624)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-96 and nvidia-173 uninstallable on Precise

2012-07-18 Thread Fran
linuxbastard, check your kernel version. I had the same problem and I
noticed I was running 3.5.0-4-generic from xorg-edgers PPA. After
returning to the official repository's version (3.2.0) the
nvidia-173-updates package is working correctly on my machine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-07-18 Thread Pierre-André Leclair
You can count me in as well.

Hope this get sorted out quickly... Can't deal with this for so long...
My computer is my main tool for work.

I know this is free software, and that we should be grateful for the
people who makes this happens, but if you want to convince me to stick
to your distro and even shell some bucks in the software center, which
I'm seriously considering... interested in the cloud storage and some
apps.

However, if the distro keeps on crashing like this for so long, I'll
just look elsewhere or as a last resort, install windows again.

I've always had pretty bad experiences in the past, mainly due because I
was using bleeding edge hardware, but I have slacked on upgrading, and
last time I built my computer back 5 years ago, I made a pretty good
one, and still going fine today...

So I thought that with a 5 years computer, the hardware issue would all
be resolved by now.. seems nvidia is still the same as it always
been... ati was always the way to go... too bad I wasn't expecting to
run linux when I picked that nvidia card...

the meantime, I at least changed the assignment from unity to mesa.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-07-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
Because the issue is in the proprietary video driver, there is little we
can do on the distro end, except escalate to an NVIDIA engineer, which
we have done.

The NVIDIA engineer posted here on this bug, that he was not able to
reproduce it on his end:

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-
drivers/+bug/973096/comments/144

He specified what information he needs from users seeing this crash.
Unfortunately none of the commenters since his post have provided the
requested information. I would suggest that before you add more
comments to this already lengthy bug report, that you first collect the
necessary data as per his instructions.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-96 and nvidia-173 uninstallable on Precise

2012-07-18 Thread linuxbastard
Hi again,

@ Fran,

Unfortunately, I'm already on the official kernel.

linuxbastard@XXX:~$ uname -r
3.2.0-26-generic-pae

@Clint Byrum

Did you mean for me to do 'ubuntu-bug nvidia-173'? Doing 'ubuntu-bug
nvidia-graphics-drivers-173' gives me a package does not exist error
message. I'm on an Nvidia FX 5500 256Mb.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-07-18 Thread Nate Wiebe
At an above linked forum thread, they were able to reproduce this bug on
a quadro fx4600. They are hoping to fix it this month, but I'd guess it
will be next month. The thread is now password protected.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-96 and nvidia-173 uninstallable on Precise

2012-07-18 Thread Luke Sticka
Hello, new Ubuntu user over here. I followed the directions as linked
by Chris, and apt-get continues to tell me the following:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
nvidia-173 : Depends: xorg-video-abi-10 but it is not installable
Recommends: nvidia-settings but it is not going to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

I noticed that the instructions were for Aptitude - is this the correct
procedure for apt-get? I do not see any new drivers under System
Settings Additional Drivers either.

...and to prove how new I am, a simple sudo apt-get update solved that
problem, didn't it. Disregard.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 985202] Re: libx11 causes kwin to crash on login (over NX protocol)

2012-07-18 Thread Peter M. Clausen
An interesting observation:

using xterm has the expected performance (as good as it gets)
using konsole: performance slow, sluggish, hanging

could it be some kind of font issue, which in the end brings kwin down?

My systems:
host: newly installed kubuntu 12.04 64-bit
client: xubuntu 11.10 32-bit

I also have a Ubuntu 10.04 host - runs perfectly

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 914631] Re: [mir] mesa-demos

2012-07-18 Thread Ricardo N Feliciano
It would be nice to get this bug fixed. Relating to what Austin
Dempewolff said, I was sent off on some kernel testing spree trying to
figure out why my graphics driver (Intel Graphics 4000) wasn't being
detected. I was on my way to submitting an upstream kernel bug until I
came across this.

2012-07-18 Thread PeterPall
Thanks a lot!

I Already have installed unity for the test - but will be able to do the
actual test tomorrow since today I have a task running on my computer I
don't want to risk to crash.

Kind regards,
