 Hi Ricardo,

I noticed this isn't uploaded to -proposed yet (that I can tell), so
have freshened your debdiff up and uploaded it.

A made a few minor changes. I changed the number from
1.11.4-0ubuntu10.7 to 1.11.4-0ubuntu10.8 since there's been another SRU
made recently. I renumbered the patches from 5xx to 2xx, because the
5xx series are really only for patches to the input stack (yes, it's
 really confusing...)

Great, thanks for your review.

We also manage the X stack packaging in git (see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/GitUsage). I've committed your debdiff to our
git tree, so it can be tracked.

Thanks for the pointers.

Create /etc/modprobe.d/bare-psmouse.conf:

then I reboot and tried close/open the lid 50 times,
I no longer have Xorg crash issue.

Can anyone still reproduce this issue after this workaround?

2012-08-07 Thread Keng-Yu Lin
More testings here:
From the fd.o bug it looks like the crash is in xserver-xorg-input-synaptics.
I tried to boot with the parameter psmouse.proto=bare so that the touchpad is
recognized as a generic PS/2 mouse. And I performed 30 cycles of
suspends/resumes. There is no crash observed.

Independently, I downgraded the xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package
to 1.5.99.902-0ubuntu5 (just happens in the ddebs archives, its -debsym
package is of that version). I performed 30 cycles of suspends/resumes.
There is no crash either.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-08-07 Thread Hein
Please not that this bug report seems to become a dead end. To many
'almost' the same problems.

When reporting bugs, it's better to be as specific as possible about the
bug and the hardware on which this bug shows.

For those who have this:
- Complete freezes with only mouse pointer still moving
- Multiple times per hour
- Easily to invoke by using Firefox or Chromium webbrower or playing video

And having:
- Nvidia proprietary driver installed (the one provided by Ubuntu as
recommended)
- A Nvidia Geforce card with shared memory, using a laptop
- Standard kernel (3.2) provided by Ubuntu installed

And:
Not suffering from this bug when de-activating the Nvidia driver and using the
Noveau driver instead.

You are kindly invited to join me at bug # 1033263 if your problem is
exactly the same as described above. All others are perhaps better off
to exactly (re)formulate their problem as specific as possible and
report their problem as a seperate bug.

First question from a kernel developer is to try kernel 3.5 with the
above problem - does this solve the problem?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-08-07 Thread ludovic halimi
Hey everyone,

This bug affects me too. Everything stops working, the keyboard and
mouse don't react at all. If there was a sound playing, it loops over
the last fraction of seconds over and over again.

Here is my hardware configuration: http://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00130961.html
I don't have any Nvidia hardware so I think this is not related to Nvidia.

I am testing further, but it would seem that I am affected when I run
Linux 3.2.0-27-generic but not when I run 3.2.0.23-lowlatency. Bad luck,
I bought this laptop to work on music.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-08-07 Thread Stephen Allen
I rolled back to 11.10 . Couldn't take it anymore. First I tried an
ATI/AMD card but didn't know too much about the card - I think it might
have been 10+ years old. Should have done more research. Long story
short - I busted 12.04 trying to get it to work. So instead of re-
installing 12.04 I just re-installed 11.10 . Sorry for tapping out guys
but I have a stable system with Unity and Compiz. Really NVIDIA??? Next
computer will not have an NVIDIA card (if I can help it). Just giving up
on NVIDIA - not Ubuntu. Not really noticing missing any features of
12.04 - Or am I ?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1033950] [NEW] NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI and nForce 430i USB related ACPI S3 State Entry Failure

2012-08-07 Thread fpgahardwareengineer
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I will like to report that if I set USB Legacy support to Enable in the BIOS
setup of ASUS P5N-E SLI mainboard, Ubuntu will freeze when I try to put the
computer into suspend mode (BIOS Setup - Advanced - USB Configuration - USB
Legacy support).
If I set this option to Disable, and if I use PS/2 keyboard and mouse, the
computer will enter ACPI S3 state, and resume from it correctly.
If I use USB keyboard and mouse instead of PS/2 keyboard and mouse, the
computer will enter ACPI S3 state briefly, and comes out of it instantly.
For more information about ASUS P5N-E SLI mainboard, refer to this link.

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_775/P5NE_SLI

I noticed similar problems with ASUS A8N-LA mainboard that came with an HP
desktop PC if I performed the same operation with Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS 32-bit and
12.04 LTS 32-bit.
This mainboard also had NVIDIA nForce 430i on it.
For more information about ASUS A8N-LA mainboard, refer to this link.

http:// h10025. www1.hp. com/ewfrf/ wc/document? lc=encc= usdocname=
c00647121 dlc=en

System Configuration:

- Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 32-bit
  * All updates as of 8/7/2012 have been applied
- Intel Pentium 4 521 2.8 GHz
  * 800 MHz FSB
  * 1 MB L2 cache
- ASUS P5N-E SLI mainboard
  * BIOS Revision 1406 (last release) 11/18/2009
  * NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI (NB) and nForce 430i (SB)
- 1 GB DDR2 800 DDR2 SDRAM
  * Corsair CM2X1024-6400C5DHX 1 GB module
  * Operating in single channel mode
- ZOTAC GeForce 8400 GS
  * 256 MB DDR3 SDRAM
  * PCI Express x16
  * Using open source NVIDIA display device driver
- NETGEAR WG311T Wireless LAN
  - 32-bit PCI card

- Hitachi LG Data Storage GDR-8163B PATA DVD-ROM drive
- USB keyboard
- USB mouse
- Dell 19 inch LCD monitor
  * VGA input

I believe this is a bug of NVIDIA USB device driver, although I own other
NVIDIA chipset-based mainboards, they don't exhibit the same problem (i.e., ECS
NFORCE4-A939 and MSI NF980-G65).
From what I have seen, this issue seems specific to NVIDIA nForce 430i.
Please fix this bug.
I will do anything to help the developers fix the bug.

2012-08-07 Thread Thomas Hood
Running linux-image-3.6.0-030600rc1-generic 3.6.0-030600rc1.201208022056
gave the same result --- freezup after entering username and password at
the login screen --- but was even worse, because rebooting back to
linux-image-3.2.0-27-generic 3.2.0-27.4 did not restore the ability to
work with two screens! Now 3.2.0-27 also freezes at login. Even
disconnecting power and removing the battery for thirty seconds did not
fix it. Later I will try removing the battery for a longer period.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)

2012-08-07 Thread Eddie
Guys, just found an admissible solution which is nice for me.

Watching over the processes I've found a lid.sh running on lid opening
and I removed the file and did a reboot then closed the lid again and it
started working like Do Nothing option.

Will dig around to examine the script and see what goes wrong, but
deleting it is an acceptable walkthrough by now.

Location: /etc/acpi/lid.sh

This issue persists since version 1.6.2-1ubuntu1~precise1. So i forced version

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 408903] Re: Does not handle microphone mute button (KEY_MICMUTE)

2012-08-07 Thread James M. Leddy
Okay, I've created some test packages. Please keep in mind these are
only test packages, I haven't even sent upstream yet. To get around the
complications with keycodes over 248 I've remapped to the F20 key, which
most keyboards don't have. We've been using the Function keys for this
purpose for a while now, for example, touchpadtoggle events are F21.

Please let me know if there are any dependencies missing. These packages
were compiled on Precise, and it is very likely they will be overwritten
by a future sru:

http://people.canonical.com/~jmleddy/micmute/

You can see what it looks like here:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 969860] Re: fglrx uses 100% CPU when screen turns off (spinning in glXWaitVideoSyncSGI or glXSwapBuffers)

2012-08-07 Thread st2000
Regarding high CPU usage when screen turns off.

I might have had a real casualty of this bug. An 18 day old HP Pavilion
g6 failed after being left unattended for about 1 hour while running
Ubuntu. The laptop was on a hard smooth surface in an air conditioned
environment. It was found fan running, warm to the touch and screen
completely black. Nothing could be done to exit this state. The failed
laptop was returned to a Compaq facility where I expect they are intent
on finding the root cause of failure (I do not believe this was a repair
facility).

The replacement HP Pavilion g6 (a slightly different model) is also warm
to the touch when the screen turns off. Leading me to this bug report.
Conclusions, the problems stated here may be the secondary cause of the
first laptop's failure. The primary cause of course would be the
laptop's inability to sustain high CPU usage.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 956071] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in XIGetDeviceProperty()

2012-08-07 Thread ThomasNovin
Fix from #31 works to get rid of the crashes but makes the touchpad very
impaired (very slow and drag up/down left/right to scroll doesn't
work).

So I guess #32 will be a better fix so I suggest to all that use that
workaround instead if you use your touchpad!

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 988290] Re: Resolution change with KVM switch on Precise

2012-08-07 Thread AMSlider
Hi Vincent,

The link you posted worked for me. I had to back out the one made for
xscreensaver. It kept the resolution, but xscreensaver didn't turn off
the monitor (or make it sleep) it just blacked it out.

Erick,
Hope you're feeling better!

On 08/04/2012 01:14 PM, Vincent Gerris wrote:
I have seen this issue on various intel integrated video chips.
The issue seemed to be caused by the KVM switch at first, but it did not
return to a proper resolution when it was removed from it.
 I found a workaround here:
 http://robert.penz.name/219/workaround-for-the-ubuntu-problem-with-kvm-switches/
 In the comment someone mentiones:
 1. Get a working xorg.conf file for your system using whatever method
 2. Get in a terminal the modeline corresponding to your monitor and desired
 resolution using :
 gtf 1920 1200 60

the modeline needs to be proper for your screen and then added to the
 monitor section.

I have not had this issue before, I hope something can be done to
autofix this when a monitor is plugged.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1030535] Re: [Sandybridge] Xorg crashes in XIGetDeviceProperty after standby

2012-08-07 Thread dronus
This gives a new clue, changing my opinion that this bug is related to
the intel drivers. First, there where many clues (crash happens while
enumerating modelines, reported by intel users). However, if some of you
agree my conclusions, we may close this bug for this package:

1) The fix linked by the comment above gives strong clue that this bug
is related to the synaptics driver

2) The corrupted structure, a list node with a bad next pointer, is
accessed via a list iteration as it seems, so the damage done by the
synaptics driver may result in a crash anytime this list is iterated.
It's maybe the intel driver that triggers this trap, but it is not it's
fault then.

3) The crash with the same circumstances (some minutes after resume)
also occurs directly after enabling the synaptics touchpad for some
people, like in this report: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=681796

SoI add the synaptic driver package here.

Assigned to the intel driver by weak guess, now there are clues for the
bug originating in the synaptics driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)

2012-08-07 Thread GeorgeD
I tried disabling lid.sh and though it worked for me too, at least after
a single test.

Rather than delete the file, I did a chmod -x /etc/acpi/lid.sh, which
prevents it from being executed.

In looking at the script, it's checking for the files 'local/lid.sh.pre'
and 'local/lid.sh.post' under the /etc/acpi directory. The script
executes them if they exist, and skips them if they don't, so that may
be normal. However, I wonder if it's a problem that the 'local'
directory is missing.

2012-08-07 Thread Sparhawk
For me, I sometimes hit this bug when not opening the lid to resume.
That is, the laptop is open when suspended, and remains open on resume.
So, in my case at least, I assume it's unrelated to lid.sh.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1034260] [NEW] Desktop Freeze

2012-08-07 Thread Oleg Yaroshevych
Public bug reported:

I worked in Nautilus, renamed a file, and then Nautilus window and whole
desktop became unresponsive and grayed. I waited for two minutes and had
to restart lightdm from the console.

In the logs I've seen [drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer
id line approximately when crash had occurred.

I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 with all updates installed.
