[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 956071] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in XIGetDeviceProperty()

2012-09-11 Thread Romano Giannetti
Great. Is there any instruction on how to undo the - proposal activation
? I used the method described in the wiki to add only this package (the
trick with priorities), is deselecting the proposed repository
sufficient? Thanks!

2012-09-11 Thread Bowmore
It seems you're running quantal with the wrong nouveau driver.
The nouveau driver you're running is the xorg-edgers version for precise.

So, switch to xorg-edgers for quantal and if that doesn't solve your
problem then purge xorg-edgers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-09-11 Thread Jean-Paul Argudo
@Rocko:

And the ones from the time of crash related in previous Xlog posted:

Im not that much into kernel, but I guess this is useless, looks like
the kernel found GPUs on the motherboard, right?

Anything more? Add some trace mode?

I have one crash per day, it's easy for me :)

Cheers,

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037411] Re: [regression][GLES] SubBuffer rendering is much slower in compiz 0.9.8.0 than it was in 0.9.7

2012-09-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
All,

I have modified this bug to just be about a very specific problem I find
on my machine. If you're concerned about general performance of compiz
0.9.8.0 with the default settings then please look at bug 1024304
instead.

** Description changed:

+ (This is no longer the primary performance regression bug for compiz
+ 0.9.8.0. Look at bug 1024304 instead)
+
Comparing graphics performance in a two-monitor configuration, I find
the gles2 branch is 25-40% slower than trunk.

This would not normally be surprising, however the slowdown REMAINS even
when I turn off the new rendering features in the gles2 branch:
  framebuffer_object, vertex_buffer_object, always_swap_buffers

So both branches should be using the same code path. But gles2 is still
dramatically slower than trunk using two monitors.

The good news is that this bug only affects benchmark results and
seemingly a little lag. The physical frame rate achieved with two
monitors still seems to be higher using the gles2 branch, meaning it
drops from 60Hz to 30Hz much less often than trunk does.

NOTE 1: This regression was allowed in compiz 0.9.8.0 because it is
generally only visible in benchmark results. Meanwhile, physical compiz
rendering performance (as reported by the compiz Benchmark plugin) is
higher in compiz 0.9.8.0 than previous versions, in most cases.

NOTE 2: If you're just worried about fullscreen game performance, then
you don't need to wait for this bug to be resolved. You can get optimal
graphics performance with unredirect mode. But see bug 980663 first.

I am running precise (with xorg-edgers ppa clearly). I didn't realise
this bug was relevant only to systems running quantal? I am seeing the
same issue but ignore my comments if not appropriate here.

Well, it might be relevant when running a mainstream precise version.

In this case you should report this issue to the xorg crack pushers team as the
ppa says:
For questions and bugs with software in this PPA please contact xorg crack
pushers.

2012-09-11 Thread Etienne Blanc
I don't know if that will help, but I have the same intel_do_flush_locked io
error sometimes. I create a java program under eclipse using lwjgl (OpenGL
version: 2.1 Mesa 8.0.4).
And I would greatly appreciate any work around the problem for sure!
Thanks,
Etienne Blanc

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744] Re: [i965] Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended. Compiz hung in intel_update_renderbuffers() from intel_prepare_r

2012-09-11 Thread Vladimir Dobriakov
I am currently experiencing this problem with my Lenovo X220 Notebook
under Ubuntu 12.04, `lsmod|grep video` shows `i915`. But I've seen the
same problem for years(!), on e.g. HP Z400 with Nvidia graphics and
Ubuntu 11.04 and 11.10. The black-screen-lock happens either on sleep-
resume and even after just locking the keyboard (lock, wait till display
goes to sleep, move the mouse, display wakes up, mouse cursor visible,
but nothing works).

So for me it looks like it is not related to particular hardware or
driver - happens in compiz/unity with different hardware.

Hi, also in my case (Dell Latitude E6530 - Canonical certified hardware)
I experience lockup/freeze at least once a day (with nothing working,
neither keyboard nor mouse - so only way is to hard switch-off) it seems
to be related to Firefox 15.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1033695] Re: External HDMI Monitor does not get detected / invalid EDID checksum

2012-09-11 Thread peterrus
Updating my monitor's firmware fixed this issue, so I think it's rather a
legit message than a bug, however, useful information could be extracted
from the EDID data, so maybe some looser checking could be used.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-09-11 Thread Pedro Alves
I find it hard to find that firefox is causing this - but for the ones
that think it's the cause, can you please go to Preferences - Advanced
- General Tab and disable / enable hardware acceleration to see if that
could be the cause?

In this thread there seems to be different things at stake. On my case, the
crashes stopped by setting i915.i915_enable_rc6=0 i915.i915_enable_fbc=0 in
grub, and I'm a heavy user of firefox

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 896922] Re: Lenovo L520 - psmouse.c: touchpad at isa0060/serio4/input0 lost sync and stops working for seconds

2012-09-11 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
TheGhost, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

Could you please provide the information following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection#In_case_your_Touchpad_stops_working_after_a_while
?

As well, could you please confirm this issue exists with the latest
development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily/current/ . If the issue remains, could
you please run the following command in the development release from a
Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically
gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the kernel in the
daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested
and remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located
at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the text:
needs-upstream-testing

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why
specifically you were unable to test it and add the following tags:
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested.

Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1047967] Re: Sony VGN-FZ21M, some hotkeys not working (video/graphics related)

2012-09-11 Thread Martin Pitt
Ah, thanks. So the keymaps are correct, they are just not working with
the nvidia driver, presumably because of the lack of decent XRandR
support.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1003080] Re: 10de:03d6 Unreadable screen occurs opening LibreOffice

2012-09-11 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Avery, regarding your comments
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/1003080/comments/36
 :
Additional data: I have downgraded to the repository nvidia driver. Using
that driver and *without lo-menubar installed*, LibreOffice starts and behaves
normally, with one exception: The menu titles are all blacked out until
selected by cursor. When starting up libreoffice with lo-menubar installed,
the screen now goes black, the keyboard becomes unresponsive, and I have to
restart the computer via hardware.

What GUI are you using in this test, Precise AMD64 Unity 3D?

As well, it is advised to parse this report down to one bug scenario,
and make separate reports for any other bugs that may be present. Hence,
let us focus on the following setup:

+ Precise AMD64 Unity 3D (assuming you prefer Unity 3D over gnome-shell)
+ lo-menubar installed (If using Unity 3D you would want lo-menubar installed)
+ nvidia-current from the Ubuntu repo:
apt-cache policy nvidia-current
nvidia-current:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 295.40-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 295.40-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/restricted i386 Packages

Otherwise, if you have a bug in the driver provided directly by nvidia,
instead of the Ubuntu repos, support in fixing a bug in this would have
to be provided by nvidia.

Please advise if you would rather refocus this report on a different
iteration.

Do you want the backtrace with or without lo-menubar installed, or
both?

With the above mentioned scenario, it seems you are having a kernel oops
if you are required to restart. Could you please capture the oops
following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelTeamBugPolicies#Capturing_OOPs
?

 - I have not seen window redrawing problems caused by KDE tooltips in ages (at

 - the bug is marked as fixed upstream (contrary to what launchpad currently
displays)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-09-11 Thread Rocko
Yes, you're right, those NVRM messages are fine - they just say that the
driver found a couple of nvidia GPUs. I was wondering if you were
getting Xid errors or the 'attempted to yield the CPU in atomic mode'
mentioned earlier in the thread. Your issue might still be an nvidia
problem - if the nvidia module locks up the kernel it can stop any
further logging - but it might be a separate issue with X or unity. If
you can do so, you could try removing one of the GPUs - I vaguely recall
seeing other bugs related to running two nvidia cards.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1049359] [NEW] No Brightness Control

2012-09-11 Thread Rainer Rohde
Public bug reported:

I have no screen brightness control on my Asus G75VW laptop with Nvidia
GeForce 660m GTX. I've observed this on 12.04 and 12.10 alpha through
beta1.

This is what I've tried:

-- Pressing Fn+F5/F6 doesn't do anything; it should increase/decrease
screen brightness.

-- Looking at the System Settings Brightness and Lock option, I can
move the brightness slider, however, it doesn't do anything either.

-- Added 'Option RegistryDwords EnableBrightnessControl=1' to
xorg.conf, and get nothing.

-- installed nvidiabl from
https://github.com/guillaumezin/nvidiabl/downloads, and get nothing.

This is very frustrating and I would like to be able to have brightness control
as I have under Win7. FYI - I've had a Dell XPS, which did work just fine, and
a MacBook Pro, which also had functioning screen brightness.

Help. :)

seems to have fixed the problem for me since toda 'fix released' nvidia-

2012-09-11 Thread Francis Ginther
Verified build in pbuilder chroot.

Functional verification of xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.4.1-1ubuntu2.1 was
performed with xserver-xorg-input-evdev (1:2.6.0-1ubuntu13 and
1:2.6.0-1ubuntu13.1). For all combinations:
 - tested single touch and multi-touch gestures (two finger scrolling) with

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1032672] Re: fglrx-updates broken dependency with xorg-video-abi-12 (Quantal)

2012-09-11 Thread consolation
@madbiologist tried profile based management; the results were
unfortunately even worse. After fluffing around with dynpm I got fan
speed down to ~80% which is annoying by usable - profiles get it stuck
back at 100%, it starts low but just keeps climbing and doesn't seem to
be able to drop back down. I think the problem is that being a crappy
laptop the single fan is responsible for the thermal control of the
whole system and it all gets bit tangled up. Thanks for the hint though.
Also, thanks for the radeon.audio=1 tip, that's made movie night hell
of a lot less annoying. ;-)

Ugh, wish someone would squash this bug...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987498] Re: Unity/compiz freeze but mouse still move

2012-09-11 Thread Bob Rader
I am seeing a problem with the same description (running Unity + compiz
in precise (12.04), display manager hangs so that the mouse moves, and
the keyboard allows me to get to tty1). My laptop is a lemu4 (lemur
ultra) from system76 -- it uses Intel graphics. If I select Ubuntu 2D,
I don't see the problem. But I like using Unity. I should probably
spend some more time running 2D to check that it indeed does not occur
there.

Today, every time I invoke vi in an xterm compiz hangs, using 100% of
a cpu. The recovery ( Ctl + Alt + F1 to get to tty1, then top to
check the compiz cpu use and get its pid, then sudo kill -9 pid, then
sudo service lightdm restart, then login to X-window environment)
works without leading to new problems. If one doesn't kill compiz, a
new one will be loaded by lightdm, leaving the orphan compiz to use an
entire cpu. And if you hit the problem and don't kill the new compiz,
you now have two cpus locked up.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037411] Re: [regression][DRI] SubBuffer rendering is much slower in compiz 0.9.8.0 than it was in 0.9.7

2012-09-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Description changed:

(This is no longer the primary performance regression bug for compiz
0.9.8.0. Look at bug 1024304 instead)

- Comparing graphics performance in a two-monitor configuration, I find
- the gles2 branch is 25-40% slower than trunk.
+ TEST CASE:
+ 1. CCSM OpenGL
+ framebuffer_object = OFF
+ vertex_buffer_object = OFF
+ always_swap_buffers = OFF
+ 2. Run graphics benchmarks.
+
+ Expected: Similar results to compiz 0.9.7
+ Observed: Much lower results than compiz 0.9.7
+
+
+ ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION:
+ Comparing graphics performance in a two-monitor configuration, I find the
gles2 branch is 25-40% slower than trunk.
