[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1030630] Re: System freeze on logout and shutdown
I am running an older build (11.10) on the same system (64 bit Toshiba A665). Same problem - purple bar at top and frozen system at shutdown. The thread above indicates the problem is back - does this mean there is no resolution yet? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1080291] [NEW] Overheating Lenovo Thinkpad T500
Public bug reported: Lenovo Thinkpad T500 runs hot / on high fan RPM when configured to use the discrete Mobility Radeon 3650 instead Intel graphics. I haven't noticed any differences between Catalyst and open source driver so I'm reporting from Catalyst-configured configuration. Open source is a no- go! I use sensors command in terminal to verify temp values: For intel it's below 2000 RPM and temps circa 40 For AMD it's close to 3000 RPM and temps 45 and higher. Once RPM reaches higher threshold, it never goes to lower RPM values. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1080299] [NEW] Strange error popup appears from time to time
Public bug reported: From time to time I'm seeing strange error popups under Ubuntu's 12.10 Unity. These always say: This problem report is damaged and cannot be processed. TypeError(Error('Incorrect padding',),) I have no idea what triggered these or where they are coming from. They are a nuisance. I always have to close the popup. Sometimes it's paranoid, happening like every 5 seconds then it won't happen for hours, then again. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1080337] [NEW] Intel vs AMD desktop performance - worse on AMD
Public bug reported: Not much to say here. I can clearly see that during Superkey+W (unity shortcut) or Ctrl+Shift+E in Firefox animations on Intel are smoother. Some time ago I quit using AMD on my system because browser performance was unbearable - see http://askubuntu.com/questions/92080/why-do-i-have- poor-video-performance-in-browsers-with-a-ati-hd3650-gpu for details (video + overall experience). In 12.04 the difference was much more severe. In 12.10 the difference is less pronounced (Firefox performance on AMD got better), but it's still noticeable (12.10, desktop perf.: Intel vs AMD). I acquired *.apport files from different configurations on my system, so let me know what's needed to move the troubleshooting further. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1080350] [NEW] Overheating AMD Turion II Dual-Core Mobile M500 ATI RV710Mobility Radeon HD 4300
Public bug reported: Ever since upgrading from Maverick (with GNOME Classic) to Precise (using Unity 2D since using the default Unity makes the situation worse) my note book regularly overheats with normal usage: I've been regularly using: echo low | sudo tee /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_profile I've am also using psensor to warn me if the temperature rises above 92°. When 'idle' the temperature is at about 80°. If the CPU is used (merely starting eclipse and letting all the the startup validation processes finish) it quickly rises to 88°. If the usages is sustained (rebuilding a java project) the temperature oscillates between 95° and 98°. If I do anything else that adds to the load (ie. if the temperature is 98° for short period of time), the system freezes, but the everything remains on, fans and CPU temperature stays up. I need to turn off the notebook by keeping the power button pressed. Note that this system overheats /with/ the low power profile. With proprietary drivers (fglrx) I set video card performance to ondemand (I forgot the exact name of this mode in ATI control center) and cpu mode to ondemand, and the notebook isn't hot, fans are not spinning (if I don't start flash, games or some similar app with high cpu load). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1067320] Re: 1002:6798 [fglrx] VT cursor is visible and blinking on top of Unity Radeon HD 7970 and 5450
Update (with some kind of solution): What I have tried so far: - Disabling KMS explicitly at grub prompt: no change - Disabling vesafb: blank screen - Disabling Plymouth: no change Another thing I tried right now, was installing the AMD Catalyst 12.11 Beta 8 driver. So far (tested it with 6 or 7 reboots) it seems to work. Also switching users works again (but there are some quirks if you try to switch back to the first user again. You have to use ctrl-alt-F7, but that can be a general problem and may be not related to the fglrx driver as it seems to switch to the wrong console if one uses Switch User in the xfce menu). Long story short: No graphic errors and no visible VT cursor so far. What one has to do after installing the beta driver, is editing the file /etc/ati/signature After the installation of the beta driver, one gets an unpleasant watermark in the lower right corner of the screen which tells that the driver is for testing purposes only. To get rid of this, edit the mentioned file and replace the content with 9777c589791007f4aeef06c922ad54a2:ae59f5b9572136d99fdd36f0109d358fa643f2bd4a2644d9efbb4fe91a9f6590a145:f612f0b01f2565cd9bd834f8119b309bae11a1ed4a2661c49fdf3fad11986cc4f641f1ba1f2265909a8e34ff1699309bf211a7eb4d7662cd9f8e3faf14986d92f646f1bc (all in one line) Hope that helps! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1067320 Title: 1002:6798 [fglrx] VT cursor is visible and blinking on top of Unity Radeon HD 7970 and 5450 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1067320/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 949071] Re: CRT monitor refresh setting always resets to 60 after reboot
I found a solution to the problem and now can start at my desired refresh rate of 75 hz, I think it can works for all other people, open nvidia-settings then go to X server Display configuration and click on tab X Screen then on MetaMode there are three buttons where the first open a menu containing all the possible resolution and refresh rate, take note of the string containing your desired settings the look at the image right above and by pressing the Delete button remove all the resolution and refresh rate you don't want leaving only the string you want, if you accidentally remove the desired string then use button Add to reinsert it in, finally apply the desired resolution and refresh rate and pressing Save to X configuration file button save in xorg.conf. Restart and it should works, if it doesn't look at my xorg.conf below when I modified the line VertRefresh 55.0 - 75.0 in VertRefresh 75.0 - 75.0 to force the use of 75 hz and added line Option UseEDIDFreqs False in section Screen to tell X to use only my settings. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1080514] [NEW] Click-and-drag in eye of gnome crashes X
Public bug reported: If I open any image with eog (I tried several different .png and .svg files), then click and drag with the left mouse button inside the window, X immediately crashes and I get taken back to the login screen. If no image file is open, nothing happens. The behaviour is the same in Unity and Xfce. I'm running 64-bit Ubuntu 12.04, fully updated, on a Dell Inspiron 15R 5520 laptop with an AMD Radeon HD 7600M graphics card and the official 64-bit AMD driver (not sure how to tell which version - it was the latest a couple of months ago anyway). xorg's version is 1:7.6+12ubuntu1, and eog's is 3.4.2-0ubuntu1.1. If I redirect the output from eog to a file, I get: (eog:22355): Gdk-WARNING **: eog: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.0. /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old contains the following backtrace: [ 37534.034] (II) fglrx(0): EDID vendor LGD, prod id 826 [ 37534.034] (II) fglrx(0): Printing DDC gathered Modelines: [ 37534.034] (II) fglrx(0): Modeline 1366x768x0.0 76.50 1366 1402 1450 1546 768 771 776 824 -hsync -vsync (49.5 kHz) [ 37534.034] (II) fglrx(0): Modeline 1366x768x0.0 51.00 1366 1402 1450 1564 768 771 776 814 -hsync -vsync (32.6 kHz) [ 37534.113] (II) fglrx(0): EDID vendor LGD, prod id 826 [ 37534.113] (II) fglrx(0): Printing DDC gathered Modelines: [ 37534.113] (II) fglrx(0): Modeline 1366x768x0.0 76.50 1366 1402 1450 1546 768 771 776 824 -hsync -vsync (49.5 kHz) [ 37534.113] (II) fglrx(0): Modeline 1366x768x0.0 51.00 1366 1402 1450 1564 768 771 776 814 -hsync -vsync (32.6 kHz) [ 37536.071] (II) XKB: reuse xkmfile /var/lib/xkb/server-4E634B280B0E5C069EA80E39EF9080F0A8FC0600.xkm [ 37554.682] (II) fglrx(0): EDID vendor LGD, prod id 826 [ 37554.682] (II) fglrx(0): Printing DDC gathered Modelines: [ 37554.682] (II) fglrx(0): Modeline 1366x768x0.0 76.50 1366 1402 1450 1546 768 771 776 824 -hsync -vsync (49.5 kHz) [ 37554.682] (II) fglrx(0): Modeline 1366x768x0.0 51.00 1366 1402 1450 1564 768 771 776 814 -hsync -vsync (32.6 kHz) [ 41235.982] (II) fglrx(0): EDID vendor LGD, prod id 826 [ 41235.982] (II) fglrx(0): Printing DDC gathered Modelines: [ 41235.982] (II) fglrx(0): Modeline 1366x768x0.0 76.50 1366 1402 1450 1546 768 771 776 824 -hsync -vsync (49.5 kHz) [ 41235.982] (II) fglrx(0): Modeline 1366x768x0.0 51.00 1366 1402 1450 1564 768 771 776 814 -hsync -vsync (32.6 kHz) [ 49260.131] Backtrace: [ 49260.131] 0: /usr/bin/X (xorg_backtrace+0x26) [0x7f96c3ba2876] [ 49260.131] 1: /usr/bin/X (0x7f96c3a1a000+0x18c71a) [0x7f96c3ba671a] [ 49260.131] 2: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0 (0x7f96c2d4+0xfcb0) [0x7f96c2d4fcb0] [ 49260.131] 3: /usr/bin/X (miResolveColor+0x3) [0x7f96c3b7fda3] [ 49260.131] 4: /usr/bin/X (FakeAllocColor+0x62) [0x7f96c3a5ab72] [ 49260.131] 5: /usr/bin/X (0x7f96c3a1a000+0x1779d8) [0x7f96c3b919d8] [ 49260.131] 6: /usr/bin/X (0x7f96c3a1a000+0x1797c1) [0x7f96c3b937c1] [ 49260.131] 7: /usr/bin/X (miPointerUpdateSprite+0x29d) [0x7f96c3b8d93d] [ 49260.131] 8: /usr/bin/X (0x7f96c3a1a000+0x173c2d) [0x7f96c3b8dc2d] [ 49260.131] 9: /usr/bin/X (0x7f96c3a1a000+0xdb9f9) [0x7f96c3af59f9] [ 49260.131] 10: /usr/bin/X (0x7f96c3a1a000+0x1119ca) [0x7f96c3b2b9ca] [ 49260.131] 11: /usr/bin/X (0x7f96c3a1a000+0x560a9) [0x7f96c3a700a9] [ 49260.131] 12: /usr/bin/X (0x7f96c3a1a000+0x5e7a7) [0x7f96c3a787a7] [ 49260.131] 13: /usr/bin/X (0x7f96c3a1a000+0x58000) [0x7f96c3a72000] [ 49260.131] 14: /usr/bin/X (0x7f96c3a1a000+0x126caa) [0x7f96c3b40caa] [ 49260.132] 15: /usr/bin/X (0x7f96c3a1a000+0x4e8a1) [0x7f96c3a688a1] [ 49260.132] 16: /usr/bin/X (0x7f96c3a1a000+0x3d7ba) [0x7f96c3a577ba] [ 49260.132] 17: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (__libc_start_main+0xed) [0x7f96c1bd176d] [ 49260.132] 18: /usr/bin/X (0x7f96c3a1a000+0x3daad) [0x7f96c3a57aad] [ 49260.132] Segmentation fault at address 0x7f86c55810e6 [ 49260.132] Caught signal 11 (Segmentation fault).
