[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1158590] Re: X server fails to start after upgrading to raring on a HP Pavillion DV6-3030TX

2013-03-24 Thread Brad Marshall
I now have a working unity session going, using a combination of:

sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgl1-mesa-dri libgl1-mesa-glx
sudo update-alternatives --config x86_64-linux-gnu_gl_conf
dconf reset -f /org/compiz/

I'll see if I can get fglrx or radeon working by making sure the GL
modules are correct.

Brad.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1159358] [NEW] USB Printer HDD external can't wake up after a moment of time

2013-03-24 Thread chris
Public bug reported:

While working a moment on LibreOffice Calc found that facts:
- LO hangs for a while after execute save. And I found that my USB expansion
HDD was sleeping. (file that I used to work execute save located on the
expansion HDD). Take a long time for the HDD to wake up again.
- Print job was pending (printer not printing). Found that the printer was
sleeping. Usually if the problem persists, plug out the USB cable and then plug
in again. I don't find any solution other than replugging printer USB cable to
wake up the printer.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1159398] [NEW] buggy openchrome driver renders desktop unusable

2013-03-24 Thread Kyle Caldbeck
Public bug reported:

I'm having a serious graphics problem in Ubuntu 13.04. When the X
starts up, I get a glitchy set of squares that turns red with a
discolored overlay of what I should be seeing. I also see no cursor
whatsoever. Using lspci I got this for my video card:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. CN700/P4M800
Pro/P4M800 CE/VN800 Graphics [S3 UniChrome Pro] (rev 01)

Additional Details:
Openchrome has worked perfectly up until this release of Ubuntu 13.04 and
assuming latest release of openchrome.

What I am guessing is my video card is having problems with GLX, though
there doesn't seem to be any easy way to disable it (which is something
I shouldn't have to do in the first place).

The little bit of what you're *supposed* to see is also updating at an
unnervingly low framerate, furthing my suspicion that it's a serious
problem with acceleration.

It takes a while for the (glitchy) display to appear in the first place.

It didn't (thankfully) keep me from switching consoles.

The boot splash is show in text-mode only (this specific anomaly has
happed in previous releases though strangly on on the live session)

Please see if you can fix this or forward this to someone who can see
what they can do.

Thank you for reading my bug request.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1137817] Re: [ivb] System freeze after high memory usage

2013-03-24 Thread Chris Wilson
You will likely have to log in remotely (though it quite possible that a
virtual terminal CRTL-ATL-F1 will still work) and grab the
dmesg/Xorg.0.log/i915_error_state or you can try running 'apport-collect

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1159414] [NEW] Xorg freeze - GPU lockup

2013-03-24 Thread Andrew Seyes
Public bug reported:

The following GPU lokcup occurs when I boot ubuntu 13.04:
[ 47.900046] radeon :01:00.0: GPU lockup CP stall for more than 1msec
[ 47.900053] radeon :01:00.0: GPU lockup (waiting for 0x0003
last fence id 0x0001)

I switched to the Mainline kernels as per the Wiki and found I can run
kernel 3.8.0-030800rc3-generic with no problems, but any attempt to run
a later version of the kernel results in the lockup shown above.

Have just applied the latest updates to my system whcih brought in
kernel 3.8.0.14 but I still get the same problem with that.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1159193] Re: ........

2013-03-24 Thread Dave Lentz
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description
didn't include enough information.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1159266] Re: XORG-intel driver

2013-03-24 Thread Dave Lentz
NOTE: You have a non-default version of xserver-xorg-video-intel
installed from a PPA, so please indicate whether the problem occurs with
the default version of xserver-xorg-video-intel found in the Ubuntu
repository.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. We have instructions on
debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 421048] Re: Black dots appear on screen

2013-03-24 Thread Jens Lehmann
I had exactly the same problem constantly since several years with
different Ubuntu versions and different nvidia drivers.

After adding agp=off to the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT in the grub
config the strange black dots problem is completely gone! :-)

...maybe this helps someone too.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1073626] Re: Constant false gpu hang system alerts

2013-03-24 Thread danpo
I can confirm the same problem on a ThinkPad X220i. Most of the time the
error appears just randomly, however the system sometimes hangs for a
couple of seconds... Will try -proposed package and let you know whether
it worked.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1073626] Re: Constant false gpu hang system alerts

2013-03-24 Thread danpo
Ok, so I got an error again even with xdiagnose/quantal-proposed. Will
try the workaround suggested above, although I'm afraid that disabling
error messages is just not what you would typically want to do to solve
an error.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1158590] Re: X server fails to start after upgrading to raring on a HP Pavillion DV6-3030TX

2013-03-24 Thread Brad Marshall
I've only been able to get Unity running intermittantly using the Intel
x server, and not at all with radeon / fglrx.

I can consistantly get a running X server using the Intel drivers, but
even with opengl I get:

compiz (core) - Info: Unity is not supported by your hardware. Enabling
software rendering instead (slow).
compiz (core) - Info: Unity is fully supported by your hardware.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1159398] Re: buggy openchrome driver renders desktop unusable

2013-03-24 Thread Kyle Caldbeck
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected raring reproducible single-occurrence
ubuntu

** Description changed:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1159398] Re: buggy openchrome driver renders desktop unusable

2013-03-24 Thread Kyle Caldbeck
NOTE:

In order to install apport, I had to edit the xorg.conf file use the
VESA driver instead. There is absolutley NO way I could do anything in
the GUI with the openchrome driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1159398] Re: buggy openchrome driver renders desktop unusable

2013-03-24 Thread Dave Lentz
Kyle, thanks for getting the info. If you could get an Xorg log showing
what happens when you start with openchrome, that would be ideal. What I
would do is start X with openchrome, switch to console, save the log and
go back to sing VESA.

** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-openchrome (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete = Confirmed

Kyle, ignore my previous comment. It appears that apport grabbed the
previous Xorg log, which does show the chrome driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1159609] [NEW] random freeze

2013-03-24 Thread Derek Trotter
Public bug reported:

The system locks up at random. It may not lock for a day after booting
up the machine. It may lock up after a few minutes of booting up the
machine. Sometimes the display just freezes, displaying whatever was
last being displayed on the monitor. Sometimes the monitor displays a
solid color when locking up. The machine does not respond to pings nor
any of the key combinations involving sysrq. The only way to recover is
a hard reset.

The machine is running Kubuntu 12.04.2 LTS Release:12.04

The computer is a HP Pavilion p6-2003w Desktop PC.

The url giving its specs is below.

http://h2.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c03052733lang=encc=uscontentType=SupportFAQprodSeriesId=5151865prodTypeId=12454

Motherboard AAHD2-HY (Holly)

Manufacturer: Pegatron
Form factor: uATX: 24.38 cm (9.6 inches) x 24.38 cm (9.6 inches)
Chipset: AMD Hudson-D2 FCH
Memory sockets: 2 x DDR3
Front side bus speeds: 100 MHz UMI (Unified Media Interface)

Processor
AMD E2 3200 Processor

Operating speed: Up to 2.4 GHz

Socket: FM1
Bus speed: 4.0 GT/s HT3

Memory
4 GB

Amount: 4 GB
Speed: PC3-10600 MB/sec
Type: DDR3-1333

The above is the memory it came with. I have since added another
identical 4GB. This upgrade did not affect the random lockup problem.

Built in graphics
AMD E-Series Processors
E2-3200 HD 6370D65W
This is the on board graphics. I have added an NVIDIA geforce 210 1024MB card.
This upgrade did not affect the random lockup problem.

Sound/Audio
Integrated Realtek ALC 656 Audio
*Integrated audio is not available if a sound card is installed.

Built-in High Definition 5.1 channel audio
Audio codec: Realtek ALC 656

Networking
LAN: 1000-Base-T

Interface: PCI Express x1
Technology: Realtek RTL8111E gigabit ethernet controller
Data transfer speeds: up to 10/100/1000 Mb/s
Transmission standards: 1000-Base-T Ethernet

I added an additional RTL8111 PCIe nic. This also did not affect the
locking up issue.

The machine came with windows7. I soon replaced it with XP. The random
lockup bug didn't show itself until I replaced windows with Kubuntu.
For a few weeks I tried Slackware 14.0 64bit and did not experience any
problem with randome freezes during this time. When I reinstalled
Kubuntu, the random lockup bug returned.

Thanks for your help.
