[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1164093] Re: FFe: new upstream release 9.1.1

2013-04-04 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
Piglit results for nouveau:
 9.0.3: 10118/11275
 9.1.0: 10297/11330
Some new tests went from skip to partially succeeding.
Some EXT_framebuffer_multisample tests started failing, but those seem to be
flaky on all drivers, those failures can be ignored entirely.
A new nouveau specific crash occured in EXT_texture_compression_s3tc, it needs
to be investigated, but looks like it could be fixed in a straightforward way.
Some vertex tests need looking at to determine whether they're flaky, but
overall a lot of fixes have happened for nouveau.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1129409] Re: nvidia-graphics-drivers should indicate which CUDA version they include

2013-04-04 Thread Graham Inggs
Right now, because of the dependency on nvidia-common, it is impossible
to install boinc-nvidia-cuda on a system with any Nvidia driver other
than nvidia-304 installed.

Because the Nvidia drivers in Ubuntu are packaged differently to Debian's, I do
not know if it is possible to solve this without modifying boinc-nvidia-cuda,
as was done in nvidia-cuda-toolkit, see:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=700621

I am hoping to get some feedback from Alberto Milone who packages the
Nvidia drivers in Ubuntu.

The upgrade of RAM from 4 to 8 was absolutely the fix for this issue for

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1164093] Re: FFe: new upstream release 9.1.1

2013-04-04 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
Piglit results for radeon:
 9.0.3: 10380/11420
 9.1.x: 10985/11449

Some regressions, mostly seem to be flaky tests or glsl failures,
nothing big though, and expected because of the move towards the llvm
shader compiler.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1164428] [NEW] Ubuntu 12.04 LTS complete freeze

2013-04-04 Thread Stefan
Public bug reported:

I've read a few similar bugs reported, but none of them were resolved or
were putted in an incomplete status.

I have Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and it freezes all of a sudden.
The keyboard/mouse stop working.
Can't open any other TTY.
The only solution is a hard reboot from button.

Configuration:
Description:Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS
Release:12.04
Lenovo ThinkPad Edge Laptop
Intel® Core™ i5-3210M CPU @ 2.50GHz × 2
OS-type: 32-bit
4GB RAM
VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Ivy Bridge Graphics Controller
(rev 09)
VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation Device 0de9 (rev a1)

I have installed on it a basic LAMP configuration, plus netbeans 7.2, FileZilla
3.5.3, Google Chrome.
I also have an external monitor (I mention it because there was another bug
similar that was saying that the monitor is the problem, but mine freezes
regardless if I use or not the monitor)

I don't think there are any logs as the system freezes without any
warning (no CPU overheating, no lag...)

It doesn't matter how many programs I have opened, because it freezes
even if I close all programs, or even if I have Netbeans, Chrome(10+
tabs +youtube), FileZilla, messenger, libre office, remmina and music on
all in the same time.

Sometimes it crashes as soon as I start using a program, other times
crashes 2,3 times one after another on restart, and other times it
doesn't crash for days (the longest period without a crash is for 3-4
days).

What is even more strange is that I have another laptop with Ubuntu ( a Dell
Inspiron), with same software configuration and external monitor, and it never
crashed.

The only software difference is that the one that doesn't crash I
downloaded the OS from ubuntu.com, and for the one that crashes I took
the OS from a Romanian proxy. Could these be the issue?

Please tell what log files to upload that may be of any help.

Thanks,
Stefan

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1164093] Re: FFe: new upstream release 9.1.1

piglit results for i915:
 9.0.3: 10750/11418
 9.1.x: 11146/11533

Similar results to radeon, some small new glsl failures, but no major
new regressions. I have some patches to cherry pick to the 9.1 branch to
fix the nouveau failures, which leaves only the s3tc crash as an
outstanding issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1163492] Re: mouse speed too fast at lowest level

2013-04-04 Thread gja
** Tags added: apport-collected precise running-unity ubuntu

** Description changed:

  Ubuntu 12.04 LTS:
I just switched mouses and my new mouse is too fast even at minimum speed in
the settings menu.

  old mouse: Dell mouse m-uvdel1
new mouse: Logitech mouse m-u0026 (from a Logitech MK120 mouse-keyboard set)

The new mouse is significantly faster at the lowest Ubuntu mouse speed
setting.
I can make it more usable by playing around with the xset command, but this
is not permanent.

When searching online for solutions, xset commands are mentioned and
modifying Xorg config files.
Is this fixed in later Ubuntu versions?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 937822] Re: [precise] F10 always opens the menu, cannot be overriden (after xkeyboard-config update)

2013-04-04 Thread thom
More than a year later this bug is still very prominent in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.
Half a year ago a fix was committed but hasn't reached the repositories yet ???
(not even in proposed or backports)

If this turns out to be a won't fix/can't fix for 12.04 situation it might
be wise to adopt the following workaround officially
(since it is better than nothing at all):

#-
mkdir -p ~/.config/gtk-3.0
catEOF ~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css

@binding-set NoKeyboardNavigation {
 unbind shiftF10
}

* {
 gtk-key-bindings: NoKeyboardNavigation
}

I tested the nouveau added the copy regressions to the git tree, and I
verified they fixed the image copy regressions in piglit.

+1 from me now.

ogra_ src/omap_driver.c: default_depth = 24; /* TODO: get from kernel

Changing that to 32, recompiling, in-place replacing allows me to boot
and be presented with the you are running in a low graphics mode and
allows me to attempt reconfiguring my X11.

But ubiquity-dm did manage to boot fine to do the install...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1162176] Re: /etc/X11/Xsession.d/45custom_xrandr-settings is ignored in 13.04

2013-04-04 Thread Bryce Harrington
Are you certain it is being ignored and not just overridden by something
else? Try having your script echo something to a file to verify it's
running.

For example, if you have a ~/.config/monitors.xml file, GNOME will set
the monitors up according to the contents of that file. Check also if
you have a system level monitors.xml.

Most xrandr commands can also be set via the /etc/X11/xorg.conf (or
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d). These settings will take effect as soon as X
starts up, so would make your boot a tiny bit faster and cleaner.

xrandr commands can also be issued on a per-user basis such as in your
~/.gnomerc or other such startup files. But note that per-user settings
will only take effect on login, and wouldn't affect the login screen.
However, these are executed pretty late so would at least work around if
gnome or something else is mucking with your settings.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1164297] Re: Xorg freeze

2013-04-04 Thread Bryce Harrington
For GPU lockup bugs with Intel graphics, you need to collect the output
of 'dmesg' and your /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state file. Both
of these must be collected while the machine is locked up (e.g. by
sshing into the sick machine over ethernet). See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze for additional info.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1116791] Re: xterm and gnome-terminal should not be dependencies

2013-04-04 Thread Bryce Harrington
For the xorg source package it looks like the dependency was added long
ago just as a convenience to ensure a terminal program was included.
Possibly there might be a debian failsafe session that pops it up, but
I'm not spotting evidence of such; in any case that wouldn't be
important to us.

For the xinit package, xterm is the default program run if no window
manager is used, so it's a more legitimate dependency there. However,
we use lightdm rather than xinit in our boot process (e.g. creating a
~/.xinitrc that echos to a file and rebooting doesn't generate the file;
and I don't see xinit listed in a raring bootchart). xinit is used if
you start x using the `startx` command, but that's not really a use case
for us. There might be other use cases where xinit is important, but
for a regular desktop session I think it may be just vestigial.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1164380] Re: incorrect resolution detected

2013-04-04 Thread Bryce Harrington
Don't trust it, those measurements are not necessarily accurate, and the
dpi calculations in X are approximations, so they're overridden in gnome
to 96x96.

See
http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/devel/2011-October/157671.html

There used to be a way to adjust the dpi in gnome2 using the font
settings dialog iirc, but I'm not sure in gnome3 where to find it.
Probably you need a dconf setting.

2013-04-04 Thread pdknsk
Hmm it does run indeed. I have deleted ~/.config/monitors.xml and it
works, with seemingly no side-effects. Thanks. I had to re-configure the
monitor in the catalyst driver settings though. It has also re-created a
new monitors.xml file with seemingly the only difference being the
monitor set as primaryno/primary.

I need this as a workaround for another bug.
