[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1158611] Re: 12.10 New build. No unity or time bar

2013-04-28 Thread Terry Scott
OK, I think I've got a cause, but not a solution as yet.

I've just installed 13.04 onto a new partition, with a new, seperate /home -
I'll call it Temp-home(TH) to save typing
On previous installs of Ubuntu, I use an existing seperate /home, I'll call it
PH to save typing.
When 13.04 starts using TH, Unity works and I get a status bar.
When I add PH to /etc/fstab, Unity does'nt work and status bar is missing.
Take PH out of /etc/fstab and Unity/status bar are fine.
Not enough room to merege PH into TH.
Looks like there's something within PH that's conflicting and stopping Unity/
status bar from appearing.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1158611] Re: 12.10 New build. No unity or time bar

2013-04-28 Thread Terry Scott
OK, Unity / status bar problem resolved in both 12.10 and 13.04
Solution:-
From 12.10(gnome-panel) copied all files from TH to PH, and re-booted.
Unity/status bar are back on both 13.04 and 12.10.
Got some tuning to do on 13.04, currently using X.Org X server driver, but all
looking good so far

Might be cause of https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/227657
and https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/227648

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 629244] Re: DisplayLink driver unloads when Screen 0 is handled by Nvidia driver

2013-04-28 Thread Virgil Titeu
Thank you very much,

I have a Sony Vaio with Nvidia video card and I can run 2 monitors off it
(TwinView or Xinerama via Nvidia configuration).
I also have 2 USB adapters to run two additional monitors. I can do this on
Windows easily, but the laptop suffers due to Windows size.
I tried your advice and have set the two monitors driven by the Nvidia card as
screen2 and screen3and the DL monitors as screen0 and screen1 and
disabled Twinview and only used Xinerama.
All monitors are found under X (except the one using the laptop's VGA port),
but there is no X11 starting on any of them.
Is it possible to have this configuration working?

I would like to use X11 on all of them, but there is a segmentation
error 0x41a0 in the log file and it drops out.

Anybody any ideas?

Regards

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1173649] Re: incorrect color depth - intel graphics card

2013-04-28 Thread Chris Wilson
Fairly recent, I only changed the default for SNA so you would only have
experienced the change on the switch in raring. Considering the
limitations upon hardware, the change is advisable for both gen2 and
gen3 (more so for gen2 than gen3), and a very popular customisation
amongst gen2 users.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1173968] [NEW] Both Firefox and Chrome consuming 70% CPU without a reason at the same time

2013-04-28 Thread matteo sisti sette
Public bug reported:

Suddenly my laptop's cooler fan began spinning very fast while the
system was completely idle, I wan't even using it though I had a few
programs opened.

So I ran top, and I saw the Chrome and Firefox processes were
alternatively consuming 70% CPU each all the time. There were only
static idle pages open, no youtube video, nothing of that kind, no
script running. I closed Firefox and Chrome kept consuming 70% cpu, then
I closed Chrome and it obviously stopped.

It would be a very strange coincidence that it was a bug in both
browsers manifesting itself at the very same time, so that's why I'm
reporting this against xorg: it's almost surely something at the system
level, and I strongly suspect something graphical (perhaps nvidia-
related? as the broken nvidia driver's bugs are usually rensponsible of
most of Ubuntu's tremendous instability).

Oh my, I completely forgot about this bug! I've since changed the
hardware that exhibited the problem, so unfortunately I can't do any
testing any more. As far as I remember, the freezing happened going from
desktop - tty. As updates rolled in it still did it occasionally but
the machine did not lock up solid. Sorry I can't be more helpful, maybe
this bug should be marked invalid.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1172092] Re: Have an nvidia titan GPU with 2560x1600 monitor. As soon as I enable the driver and reboot, X crashes with black screen

2013-04-28 Thread earthforce_1
I am running the latest NVIDIA driver, and I now have the correct screen
resolution, but it is crashing after a few minutes, especially when web
browsing. The browser will become unresponsive, turn dark, then the
mouse will freeze, then the entire machine will reboot after about 20
seconds or so.

This is incredibly frustrating.

In any case, how to I set the depth to 24, regardless of the arguments
and indecision over the default setting?

Note X -configure is problematic.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1173967] [NEW] fglrx and fglrx-updates not working (Ubuntu 13.04)

2013-04-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I made a fresh install of Ubuntu 13.04, then to solve the overheating problem
with open source drivers, tried to install the proprietary ati drivers from the
update manager.
Both not worked, leaving the system with only the wallpaper and the mouse
pointer.

Same story with the ati installer (catalyst 13.4). I tried both,
generating packages for Ubuntu and using the .run installer itself.
Always wallpaper and pointer.

It seems that no installation of ati drivers is possible on Ubuntu
13.04.

I have a Radeon HD 6770M / Intel system.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1174043] [NEW] After dist-upgrade to 13.04 Intuos3 can not drag/paint any more

2013-04-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1174042] [NEW] System crashes with open-source radeon driver

2013-04-28 Thread Lars Scheithauer
Public bug reported:

I have a Dell StudioXPS 1640 with an ATI Radeon HD 3670. Unter Ubuntu
12.04, I was able to use the proprietary fglrx driver. However, since
the new xserver-xorg introduced in Ubuntu 12.10, I am unable to use the
proprietary driver anymore, because ATI stopped support for the graphics
card in the newer fglrx-versions compatible with the new xserver.

I now upgraded to Ubuntu 13.04 and tried to get the radeon open-source
driver to work. When I activate the driver by installing the xserver-
xorg-video-radeon package, the monitor goes dark, flickers once a few
seconds later and the system does not react anymore - the only thing
still working is the poweroff button. I did try several custom xorg.conf
files (minimalistic copy of the fallback with the radeon driver
specified, the same with deactivated acceleration and a bigger one with
specific screen modes, etc) and the dbus version without any xorg.conf
file - all with the same result.

The vesa-driver is unable to detect my monitor correctly and leaves me
with 1440x960, which is bad for my monitor, because it is not my native
resolution and fuzzy.

I'm now stuck with a generic kernel-mode setting, which has my native
resolution, but is sluggish and unusable.

I do not want to be stuck with Ubuntu 12.04 and an unsupported fglrx
driver for the next year or so (until I get a new laptop). Any hints and
help greatly appreciated.

I've tried triggering all three buttons on my tc1100 while cat'ing

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068404] Re: Low graphics mode in muxless hybrid ATI/Intel GPU systems after fglrx upgrade

2013-04-28 Thread Marco Vuano
This is correct. Regarding the crash when iGPU is selected, since it is similar
to Bug #1088220 I didn't report a new bug, but I can if you think it is useful,
regarding the bug with XvBA, I reported it as bug 789 on the unofficial ATI
Bugzilla, since the new drivers are apparently not available on the Ubuntu
12.10 repositories.
The bug reported here is fixed by the new drivers.

Public bug reported:

Hi,
My laptop is Vision model Clevo.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1003449] Re: four keys in Microsoft Digital Media Keyboard 3000 doesn't report any events

2013-04-28 Thread FOAD the God-King
I have the Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 3000 which apparently looks the
same (except, well, it is wireless). The keys mentioned above don't
work on that one either, but neither do the menu key (right of the
right alt key) or the multimedia 1/2/3/4/5 keys.

Is there anything a non-programmer can do to help fix this prolem?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1174121] [NEW] black screen

2013-04-28 Thread Bjphil
Public bug reported:

hello!
Live cd works fine, install with no problem, reboot.
Grub appears (dual boot), i choose ubuntu, loading,.. and one of my screen is
entirely black (tv samsung hdmi) and the other shows coupure 75/60hz (lg
flatron w1941s)
i managed to install fglrx (blinded) (radeon hd 6570) but fglrx shows an icon
in the bottomright of both screen unsupported hardware.
If i call back the free driver, this one doesn't detect my screens and show a
single resolution that don't fit with no other options.
Now i will try the fglrx-update driver.
(if you don't have news, this mean i'm blind again) ;(
thanks

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1174135] [NEW] Xorg freeze/performance problem

2013-04-28 Thread Jared Greenwald
Public bug reported:

I installed Raring about a week ago on my main desktop - just before it
went live and last night was the first time I've rebooted since I
installed. Not sure what exactly the issue is that is causing the
lockup/performance issue but the symptoms are basically the following...

Boot up - seems fine
Login - during the transition from the login screen to the actual desktop/Unity
shell there's a large pixelated image being displayed
Desktop action - opening/closing any window is just dead slow - so much so that
you can see the windows coming through the normal transitions from not there to
fully there in about 4-5 steps. Programs themselves operate normally once open.
After about 5-30 minutes the screen just freezes. I switched to VT1 and I'm
getting a ton of messages stating...

[drm:radeon_cs_ib_chunk] *ERROR* Failed to schedule IB !

...just being spewed out on the console. Have to actually physically
power cycle the machine from this point. Not exactly sure what
component the issue is related to - could be compiz, xserver-xorg, etc.
no idea.

I think this is related to bug 1100286.

I cannot leave the system in this state for very long as I need it for
work purposes. I have another system to fall back to in a pinch, but
its not ideal. If I don't hear back on this bug from someone by the end
of the day on Monday I'm going to try re-imaging the system and see if
that can at least get me some progress.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 921636] Re: intel GM965 (X3100) no TV-Out (S-Video)

2013-04-28 Thread ezequiel
Hi. I'm having the same problem with the VGA output.
VGA output was working with Ubuntu 10.04.and now it is not with Ubuntu 12.04:

The system recognizes that a monitor is plugged but there's no image on
the screen.

I have an acer aspire 5720:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960
Integrated Graphics Controller (primary) (rev 03)

Current kernel: 3.2.0-40-generic-pae

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1174043] Re: After dist-upgrade to 13.04 Intuos3 can not drag/paint any more

2013-04-28 Thread Alexia Death
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected raring third-party-packages

** Description changed:

After dist-upgrade to 13.04 Intuos3 can not drag/paint any more.

Button down is immediately followed by button release, so I CAN click,
but painting is limited to single tab of paint at a time in gimp and
does not work at all in Krita. I can not even to move windows around...

xinput shows that the pressure axis values are correct, but button up
event is not - it comes right after button press, not when I lift the
  pen.

Booting an older kernel did not fix this.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1155327] Re: skype crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc@plt()

2013-04-28 Thread arielg
The workaround doesn't work for me. Like the others, I'm using nvidia
proprietary drivers (310.44) and this issue emerged when I upgraded to
13.04 raring. However, whenever I attempt to use the workaround, I get
this error in the terminal:

ERROR: ld.so: object '/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/mesa/libGL.so.1' from
LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored.

Thanks Timo,

Unfortunately, the kernel you linked does not appear to work any better.
