[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1203776] Re: X crashes w/ latest xserver intel driver from System Compositor Testing PPA
Ok, I can accept that you may need to drive the xfer at a higher frequency than what naturally occurs on becoming idling, and so the pushing data from the event makes sense. However, the readibility of your buffer_available() fd is only checked at the same frequency as the blockhandler is being run, so you don't see any benefit... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1203776 Title: X crashes w/ latest xserver intel driver from System Compositor Testing PPA To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xmir/+bug/1203776/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1204778] Re: [xmir] Graphics corruption - failure to flush rendering?
Sure - have mir-demos installed. If you're building Mir by hand, they're in the bin/ directory. Run ‘sudo mir_demo_server_shell’; VT switch; Run X as normal, passing -mir $SOME_STRING. The number is unimportant (it's the identifier sent to the Mir server). X should now be running on the VT with mir_demo_server_shell. I'm pretty sure I've realised what's happening here while putting the baby to sleep: The xmir patch is slightly too trusting - the Damage passed in to _submit_dirty_window is not quite the Damage that needs to be copied. At the moment it's the damage since the last submit_rendering_for_window¹, but it should be the damage since the buffer that's current for the window. Since we're double (or triple) buffering, we need to (but don't) accumulate that. ¹: Would this be better named mir_swap_buffers_for_window? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1204778 Title: [xmir] Graphics corruption - failure to flush rendering? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1204778] Re: [xmir] Graphics corruption - failure to flush rendering?
mir_swap_buffers_for_window() would indeed be a different model, one that would be more efficiently done by pushing (from the ddx) rather than pulling buffers. Only transferring damage is nice as the buffer that is passed around is simply a transport buffer and simply says 'please apply these updates to the current output' divorcing the ddx from having to worry about just how that is presented. Mir on the other hand will have to worry about differences accumulated over the course of pending flips, and make sure that it applies incremental damage to all buffers. Take your pick. :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1204778 Title: [xmir] Graphics corruption - failure to flush rendering? Ok, checked with a plain xterm on a bare Xmir - yes that is the damage bug rather than a coherency bug in mesa. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 373669] Re: [RV620] No power management with ati driver
Better power management (than that mentioned in comment #25) for AMD/ATI Radeon R600 and newer hardware is finally available in the upstream 3.11 linux kernel. The first release candidate (3.11-rc1) of the 3.11 kernel is available at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ and instructions on how to install and uninstall it are available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds To use this power management for the AMD/ATI Radeon you will need to select it at boot by adding radeon.dpm=1 to your GRUB kernel boot options as described at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/Troubleshooting#Editing_the_GRUB_2_Menu_During_Boot On R700 and newer hardware (other than APUs) you will also need to install the latest AMD graphics microcode (ucode) files to /lib/firmware/radeon These are available at http://people.freedesktop.org/~agd5f/radeon_ucode/ Get the version ending in smc. R700 basically means Radeon HD 4000 series and newer. However note that according to Wikipedia and http://xorg.freedesktop.org/wiki/RadeonFeature/#index5h2 the Mobility Radeon HD 4225/4250 is a RV620 chip, so anyone with one of those shouldn't need the updated firmware files. See the blog post at http://www.botchco.com/agd5f/?p=57 for further information. Unlike the older dynpm method, the new DPM mehod works with multiple monitors and there shouldn't be any flickering as the performance level changes are handled by dedicated hardware rather than the driver. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/373669 Title: [RV620] No power management with ati driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-driver-ati/+bug/373669/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1098334]
I'm also affected by this character corruption bug. My hardware is a notebook with Intel 4500M (i915 driver). First I thought it's caused by a hardware issue with my external screen, but the notebook screen shows the currupted characters as well. Sometimes when I scroll down to the end of a website with text and then keep scrolling (when the end is reached), about 2 characters per sentence are corrupted and about every 1/10 second the position of the curruptions change. The characters that were corrupted before look fine then and different characters are corrupted. What I have tried so far: - Disable/enable xcompmgr (no effect) - Use XFCE (no effect) - Change driver options i915_enable_rc6, i915_enable_fbc, lvds_downclock (no effect) - Use different fonts (no effect) - Disable sna (works) - Test firefox, libreoffice, chromium (all affected) Version Info: Kernel 3.10.1-1-ARCH xf86-video-intel 2.21.12 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1098334 Title: [gen4 sna] Font corruption in Chromium tab bar To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1098334/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1098334]
Incorrect rendering of some glyphs is still there as of yesterday's git snapshot (24/7/13). I'm reporting it as I read somewhere that newer released versions of the driver implemented a lower limit on MAX_FLUSH_VERTICES in order to reduce the impact of the bug, but I really see no difference. Yet, it may be the case that the reduction is only applied to the released driver and not in the devel version (haven't checked the actual code). A couple of notes: - The way in which the glyphs corruption appears is weird. Without any scrolling, just typing in characters at some place causes some random character to get corrupted somewhere else (e.g. maybe 1 line above, maybe 10 cm to the right, etc). Some times typing some more character is enough to have the corruption disappear, something it does not. I have not been able to determine if the glyph that gets corrupted is the same one that is being typed (i.e, I type in an 'e' and somewhere and 'e' gets corrupted), but I suspect that this is not the case. - The issue seems to be much less frequent if I type slowly. - Once a glyph is corrupted, just 'selecting' some random character around it, but not necessarily very close to it (e.g., 15 chars to the left or to the right), seems to be enough to cause a redraw of the glyph that fixes its rendering. This seems somehow similar to how pressing 'PrtScrn' to try to get a snapshot causes a redraw that fixes the wrong glyphs, so that it is difficult to get a screenshot of the issue, unless one relies on a camera. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1098334 Title: [gen4 sna] Font corruption in Chromium tab bar To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1098334/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a regular (non-security) bug.
