[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 649809] Re: the session settings manager can try starting before the login screen one exits

2013-11-20 Thread RobinJ
Sorry if I'm wrong, but wouldn't we simply be able to check every second
or so whether the settings daemon from the login manager has exited, and
only when that one has exited, start the settings daemon for the user?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1250498] Re: haswell, no video output after 2nd resume from suspend to disk (S4)

2013-11-20 Thread b3nmore
Attached full dmesg with drm.debug=0xe boot option.

Additionally I unplugged/plugged the dvi/vga port after the second
resume. The log shows, that those events get registered, but still no
video output (monitor goes into power save).

2013-11-20 Thread Anthony Wong
Does this bug happen on 12.04.1 or 12.04.3? Steps says 12.04.3 but Installation
media says it's 12.04.1.
If it's 12.04.3, this could be i915 issue, can you please try 13.10 and see if
the problem exists?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1243557]

2013-11-20 Thread Rebecca Palmer
This bug seemed to become harder to trigger when I installed git-as-of-
Oct-26, then easier again when I installed git-as-of-Nov-14, but given
that this change seemed to persist after returning to 3.11 (suggesting a
left-behind configuration change) and the general randomness of the bug,
this would not give a reliable bisection (so the date mismatch doesn't
rule out #71662 being the same bug).

In 3.8.0 the same symptoms occur but the log message is
nouveau ![ PFIFO][:01:00.0] unhandled status 0x0100
I suspect (but have not tested) that this change was
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/nouveau/linux-2.6/commit/drivers/gpu/drm/nouveau/core/engine/fifo/nvc0.c?id=32256c87ead3edec86bed5023a0ff96a6d907931
,i.e. this error was what is now the warning.

Is 0x0080 unhandled because it is an inherently fatal error, or
because nobody outside Nvidia knows what it means?
https://github.com/envytools/envytools/blob/master/hwdocs/fifo/nvc0-pfifo.rst
is a contentless stub.

** Description changed:

Bug #1242633 only deals with the packages related to pointer barriers. More
packages need to be backported to enable building saucy xserver on precise:
  - Pixman, should be copied to precise, quantal and raring, to not
deliberately break dist-upgrading too hard.
  - libdrm, to precise, quantal and raring too, for same reason. Bug #1171340
shows why renaming is unfeasible.
+
+ Mesa in precise needs a small update to recognise -lts-saucy and lts-
+ trusty renamed packages.

Public bug reported:

Bug #1242633 only deals with the packages related to pointer barriers. More
packages need to be backported to enable building saucy xserver on precise:
- Pixman, should be copied to precise, quantal and raring, to not deliberately
break dist-upgrading too hard.
- libdrm, to precise, quantal and raring too, for same reason. Bug #1171340
shows why renaming is unfeasible.

Mesa in precise needs a small update to recognise -lts-saucy and lts-
trusty renamed packages.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1184451] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 random screen freeze while Normal OS activites

2013-11-20 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
Seems to me multiple driver bugs could be causing this for different
reasons. Nouveau nv50 had issues under memory stress that are solved in
saucy-proposed.

See bug #1247607 for more info. There's a really nasty kernel bug for
nouveau that could cause problems too under memory stress for ALL
nouveau cards. This is fixed in drm-next:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~airlied/linux/commit/?h=drm-
nextid=9360bd1112d8874d21942e2ae74f5416b00a8db6

A precompiled drm-next kernel with the fix for nouveau can be found at
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/drm-next/current/ but
please grab lidbrm-nouveau2 from -proposed too.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1184451] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 random screen freeze while Normal OS activites

2013-11-20 Thread Jorge Candela
I can confirm this happening to me too. Every now and again before
13.10, but very often since I did a fresh 13.10 install.

Everything freezes with no clear relation with user actions or opened
programs. Sometimes I can switch to console with ctrl+alt+f2 and restart
lightgdm but it just delay the freezing for a while because next time it
will completely freeze forcing me to perform a hard reset.

In adition, I have also noticed a very high rate of firefox breaks since
I upgrade to 13.10. I have always been running an updated system with no
extras out of the installed repos.

It is coming out so frecuently that it is driving the system unusable
for working purpouses. Just sometimes it can keeps running for a few
hours with no problem. The weird thing is that it occurs when I'm doing
the exact same work with the same programs than when it freezes.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1253068] [NEW] Constant GPU Lock-ups with Ubuntu 13.04 and 13.10

2013-11-20 Thread Luis Mendes
Public bug reported:

Problem happens with Ubuntu 13.04 and 13.10, didn't happen with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
The problem occurs as a general rule during the first 30 minutes of use and
keeps happening across several following reboots and shutdown/power on cycles.

I've a Pentium IV 3.06GHz with Hyperthreading enabled and a graphic card:

And I've been observing GPU lockups like the ones in attachment since

In fact nvidia drivers worses the problem appearance rate. These
problems didn't happen with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS running on same machine
with same hardware.

the firefox issues are a different bug than the one discussed there,
they seems like high cpu usage due the number of bookmark entries in use

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1253529] [NEW] Screen in editors get corrupted

2013-11-20 Thread Paweł Szafer
Public bug reported:

Hello,
Since Ubuntu 13.10 I've got problem with displaying text in editors such Geany
and Eclipse.

Attached screenshot shows how Eclipse look after opening.
To see regular window I need to dragdrop window by mouse, resize it and it get
rendered properly.

When typing text and inputting new line in Eclipse then text in text editor
section dissapears. Only way is to scroll down and up in editor by mouse and
text showing back.
Other get around is CTRL+A select all text and it is visible again.

In Geany, while scrolling, text is not showing at all (it looks like
nothing happened - old text is visible all time). After scrolling it
needs to select everything I see in window to show it.

I don't really know if this bug is related to Xorg or other package. I
think that Eclipse and Geany could using same engine to rendering text
and it is somehow buggy in this version of Ubuntu.
