[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1296205] [NEW] capslock(ctrl_modifier) generates invalid modifier map
Public bug reported: This bug applies to Ubuntu 14.04 (Trusty Tahr) I configured my (GNOME) desktop to make Caps_Lock an additional Control key. This results in a perfectly reasonable xkb keymap: xkb_keymap { xkb_keycodes { include evdev+aliases(qwerty) }; xkb_types { include complete }; xkb_compat{ include complete }; xkb_symbols { include pc+us+inet(evdev)+capslock(ctrl_modifier)+compose(ralt) }; xkb_geometry { include pc(pc105) }; }; But xkbcomp turns this into a slightly broken modifier map: shift Shift_L (0x32), Shift_R (0x3e) lockCaps_Lock (0x42) control Control_L (0x25), Caps_Lock (0x42), Control_R (0x69) mod1Alt_L (0x40), Meta_L (0xcd) mod2Num_Lock (0x4d) mod3 mod4Super_L (0x85), Super_R (0x86), Super_L (0xce), Hyper_L (0xcf) mod5ISO_Level3_Shift (0x5c), Mode_switch (0xcb) As you can see, Caps_Lock is now assigned to both lock and control. That's technically not valid, even if it happens to (almost) work with many X applications. Unfortunately for me, VMware Workstation is one of the applications that cannot handle this situation. In fact, when it encounters this type of modifier map, it proceeds to completely clear the entire map, which is quite catastrophic: xmodmap: up to 0 keys per modifier, (keycodes in parentheses): shift lock control mod1 mod2 mod3 mod4 mod5 That's of course a bug in VMWare -- and I already reported it. But the root cause of the bug looks as if it is faulty information in the xkeyboard configuration files. For the time being, I can work around the problem by issuing xmodmap -e 'clear lock' prior to starting VMWare Workstation. ** Affects: xkeyboard-config (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1296205 Title: capslock(ctrl_modifier) generates invalid modifier map To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xkeyboard-config/+bug/1296205/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1246683] Re: Middle button does not work for scrolling
Actually I patched the debian package because Ubuntu 13.10/Mint 16 had old evdev/synaptics versions. If you are on Trusty, then you can patch the ubuntu packages instead (even though they appear to be identical). Repalce the git clone lines with apt-get source xserver-xorg-input-evdev xserver-xorg-input-synaptics and modify the mv lines accordingly (different folder names) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-evdev in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1246683 Title: Middle button does not work for scrolling To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-evdev/+bug/1246683/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1296224] [NEW] Horrible noise via DisplayPort [regression]
Public bug reported: This issue has been present and fixed two years ago and with Trusty Tahr it re-appeared: When logging in and my display is extended to two monitors, and also when the screen blanks, I get 3-5 seconds of horrible noise via DisplayPort audio out. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1273652] Re: apply of multi-monitor setting results in crash
After upgrading to xubuntu 14.04 the bug is still present. I still get the following error: ERROR: Error querying target relations The program 'nvidia-settings' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)'. (Details: serial 740 error_code 2 request_code 158 minor_code 25) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) ** Tags added: trusty -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-settings in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1273652 Title: apply of multi-monitor setting results in crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-settings/+bug/1273652/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1296365] [NEW] Xorg freeze
Public bug reported: Still having start-up issue, it still freezes, ie the cursor/arrow in the little 'lightdm' window where it's asking for my password. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1268463] Re: Can not installed xserver-xorg-lts-saucy.(Conflicts)
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1191563 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1191563 Hello, I can confirm the problems with the Xstacks too, there should be a smoother transition to new Xstacks (e.g. precise to saucy) and between Xstacks (e.g. raring to saucy) in LTS-versions. Maybe it is possible to modify/tune the Xstack-meta-packages because it is not sufficient to install only package xserver-xorg-lts-saucy (and linux-generic-lts-saucy). I had to use the following command (after removing the old Xstack with installing package xserver-xorg-lts-precise), but that is not smooth! apt-get install -V libglapi-mesa-lts-saucy libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-saucy xserver-xorg-lts-saucy xserver-xorg-input-all-lts-saucy xserver-xorg- video-all-lts-saucy libgl1-mesa-dri-lts-saucy x11-xserver-utils-lts- saucy libglapi-mesa-lts-saucy:i386 libgl1-mesa-dri-lts-saucy:i386 libgl1 -mesa-glx-lts-saucy:i386 Another problem is when using KDE/Kubuntu, you have to remove packages kde-workspace-dev libkwinactiveglesutils1 libkwinglesutils1. After the installation you can install them again with apt-get install kde-workspace-dev libkwinactiveglesutils1 libkwinglesutils1 and not with only kde-workspace-dev because dependency is broken. The same with meta-package xorg-dev, it is broken too with the new Xstacks but installing single packages from this meta-package works. It would be wise to check all dependencies (with a script) in the whole ubuntu repository for problems with the Xstacks and derived problems to get a better update/upgrade experience to Xstacks for the LTS-versions (at least for the new 14.04 LTS). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1191563] Re: xserver-xorg-lts-raring cannot be installed due to unresolvable dependencies
Hello, I can confirm the problems with the Xstacks too, there should be a smoother transition to new Xstacks (e.g. precise to saucy) and between Xstacks (e.g. raring to saucy) in LTS-versions. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 959836] Re: Needs to distribute sources instead of precompiled libraries
Nice. Canonical / Ubuntu has enough sway to impose the removal of libraries which would break their MIR. In theory the source files are copied in /usr/src/xorg-gtest and part of the dev package. In reality this code as such is un-usable. So may be it is better to remove entirely all xorg packages ? to let go MIR ... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-gtest in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/959836 Title: Needs to distribute sources instead of precompiled libraries To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-gtest/+bug/959836/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
