[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1240957] Re: Scrolling behaviour and window focus has changed and is inconsistent
Thanks for responding Sebastien. This bug isn't about switching workspaces with scroll events, it's about being able to scroll windows with a mouse that aren't in focus. Basically, it works with a touchpad (all windows are able to scroll without focus), but not with a mouse scrollwheel. The default X desktop behaviour since forever has been to be able to scroll any scrollable window that the pointer is hovering above, regardless of whether it's in focus or not. For the record, I've been affected by this bug even today, where I wanted to have two gEdit windows open side by side, and had to keep focusing the windows to scroll them, whereas normally I'd just hover over one window and scroll it while editing the other with the keyboard. This bug is also a regression from Ubuntu 12.04.. so might be more important if you have a bunch of 12.04 LTS users upgrading next month. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1240957 Title: Scrolling behaviour and window focus has changed and is inconsistent To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gtk/+bug/1240957/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

This bug isn't about switching workspaces with scroll events Well, it used to happen only with that configuration, it seems like things changed. It might be because unity grabs those events to use them when you scroll over launcher icons This bug is also a regression from Ubuntu 12.04.. so might be more important if you have a bunch of 12.04 LTS users upgrading next month. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1300258] [NEW] [FFe] Broadwell support backport for mesa 10.1
Public bug reported: We need to support Intel Broadwell graphics on 14.04(.1) images, and the last missing bit is support in the DRI driver provided by mesa. Mesa 10.2 will have improved BDW support (and enabled) when it's released in May/June'14, but it's too late for trusty. Upstream release cadence was changed last year, and instead of having bigger releases every six months and bugfix/feature backport point releases they now do 'big' releases every three months, and bugfix releases are even smaller than before. That means there won't be any BDW enablement on a 10.1.x point-release, meaning we need to do that ourselves. Selecting and pulling a set of commits touching BDW is doable though, and that's what I'm going to do.. Current blocker bug for BDW is https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75879 and I'm not sure it makes sense to release 14.04 with it. Don't remember if the software fallback works, needs testing. ** Affects: mesa (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Assignee: Timo Aaltonen (tjaalton) Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1300258 Title: [FFe] Broadwell support backport for mesa 10.1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/1300258/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1066464] Re: Please patch xserver-xorg-video-sis (was: SiS driver crashes Xserver with EXA acceleration)
As per the title, please add the patch to the standard ISO. It will help a lot of people, especially now when Windows XP is retiring and people search for a new operative system. I tested it myself, and it all worked well. Besides this I try to drag attention to the PPA here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2130640 and it's very well received when I point people to the thread. The only negative response I have noticed is people complaining that it's not there by default: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2213378page=2p=12973323viewfull=1#post12973323 So, status is that we have many thankful users who are satisfied with the patch. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1240957] Re: Scrolling behaviour and window focus has changed and is inconsistent
Just did some testing (with two gEdit windows) this morning, Ubuntu 14.04 updated to the latest packages as of today (2014-04-01). I apt-get installed ubuntu-gnome-desktop and kubuntu-desktop on a regular Ubuntu 14.04 install. GNOME desktop (gnome-shell): Both gEdit windows can be scrolled with the pointer hovering over the window, regardless of focus. GNOME desktop classic (I guess still gnome shell?): Same as GNOME desktop, scrolling works while hovering, regardless of focus. KDE plasma desktop: gEdit window needs to be focused to be scrolled Ubuntu Unity desktop: gEdit window needs to be focused to be scrolled And on Ubuntu 14.04 (around beta 1 packages) on a netbook with a touchpad and mouse connected: Nautilus windows can be scrolled with the touchpad while hovering, regardless of focus, but NOT with the mouse. So, what makes the gnome-shell desktop different to Unity and KDE? The X server, GTK etc are all the same.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1300557] [NEW] Screen resolution no longer works
Public bug reported: My display's native resolution is 2560×1440 pixels. Prior to, I think, Saucy I could only reach this resolution by adding it using xrandr, and then calling xrandr on boot/login to select that resolution. The Display preferences did not show any higher options than 1920×1200. In Saucy, the native resolution just worked, and I could stop using xrandr. It also worked in Trusty in the alpha releases, up to (and I think including) beta-1. But today (this is not an April's fool, is it?) I rebooted after an upgrade, and found myself back in 1920×1200. Again, the Display preferences list that as the highest possible resolution. But this time, attempts to ‘xrandr --admode’ my native resolution failed. The error message wasn't very helpful; I'll try to reproduce it later but it throws my display into yet a lower resolution that's hard to work with. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1300557] Re: Screen resolution no longer works
** Description changed: My display's native resolution is 2560×1440 pixels. - Again, the Display preferences list that as the highest possible - resolution. But this time, attempts to ‘xrandr --admode’ my native + Again, the Display preferences list that resolution as the highest + possible. But this time, attempts to ‘xrandr --addmode’ my native resolution failed. The error message wasn't very helpful; I'll try to reproduce it later but it throws my display into yet a lower resolution that's hard to work with.
