[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1267742] Re: Screen artifacts appear after restart and cold boot

2014-04-17 Thread Laurent Humblet
Hi,

Sorry for posting this where it's maybe not the right place but I had
the greeter issue and it's now fixed after updating to the most recent
PPA (https://launchpad.net/~lightdm-gtk-greeter-team/+archive/daily) and
it's all working fine for the greeter screen (thank you for the fix
btw).

But once passed the greeter, it's exactly the same screen corruption as
before (see this picture: http://i.imgur.com/rr5pa84.jpg). It seems
that whatever you did on the greeter should also be applied to the main
desktop manager.

I hope this helps,
All the best,
Laurent

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1267742] Re: Screen artifacts appear after restart and cold boot

2014-04-17 Thread Simon Steinbeiß
In case you're not using xfdesktop to draw your desktop background then this is
the same bug, the root pixmap isn't painted correctly by nouveau.
So if my assumption that you're not using xfdesktop is correct, it is xfwm4
drawing the root pixmap in your case. But it doesn't matter really, because the
nouveau driver is still the culprit.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1267742] Re: Screen artifacts appear after restart and cold boot

2014-04-17 Thread Simon Steinbeiß
Whatever window-manager you use, if you don't use a specific application
like xfdesktop that paints the background in a separate window (i.e. not
the root pixmap) you'll encounter this nouveau bug.

I haven't heard of a fix for this issue yet.

Your hardware information shows that you have an Intel GPU. The
fglrx/Catalyst driver is for ATI/AMD GPU's, so this bug report doesn't
make any sense unless you have an ATI/AMD GPU that is not being shown in

Please explain exactly what you're trying to do...

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1308914] Re: fglrx (not installed): fglrx kernel module failed to build

2014-04-17 Thread tom
Daniel
I am trying to install two HD 6950 graphic cards which I think needs
ATI/AMD drivers in my computer.
I am following the link http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Main_Page as to
how to install these packages.
I first tried Ubuntu 12.04 with kernel 3.11 and the catalyst build
failed with errors relating to Linux-headers missing. I tried to resolve
this but no good. I then installed Ubuntu 12.04 with kernel 3.5 and the
build went fine but with the error sent to you and again nothing works.
I am no expert in Linux and only a little knowledge so it may be my
mistake, I am only learning.
Thank you for your time and help.

the Kubuntu Edition needs an extra package: libgles2-mesa-lts-saucy

Ah, I see.
Well, the next issue is that you're trying to use an obsolete version of
Catalyst. Why do you think you need to use Catalyst 11-11? That version is not
going to work with your XServer (1.13.0).

What happens when you install the latest version of Catalyst:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1309153] [NEW] NVRM: os_pci_init_handle: invalid context!

2014-04-17 Thread Jennifer Cash
Public bug reported:

My Xsessions are locking up at random times (sometimes mulitple times an
hour, sometimes with days in between).

During these lockups I have a variety of effects not always the same. These
include:
having the display freeze, but the mouse cursor still moves (but clicks do
nothing)
having the display completely freeze
sometimes sound continues to play and sometimes it starts looping the last few
seconds of sound
sometimes I can use Ctrl-Alt-F1 to get a command lines, but not always
most of the time I can ssh in from another machine, but not always

If I can get a command line, sometimes it can recover by restarting lightdm,
but not always
I can sometimes recover by using Alt-SysRq k, but not always
sometimes the computer need to be powered off to reboot

There is pretty much always lines in the syslog with statements such as
Apr 17 10:10:58 pegasus kernel: [74129.721505] NVRM: os_pci_init_handle:
invalid context!
Apr 17 10:11:49 pegasus kernel: [74178.673977] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to
yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context

with the NVRM: os_pci_init_handle: invalid context! being the most commonly
seen one
the need to reboot tends to be with the NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield
the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context errors

I will try to provide additional needed data as requested, but will need
specific instructions since I'm very new to debugging (I have used linux
for about 15 years without major issues until now).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013881]

2014-04-17 Thread Sergey V. Udaltsov
Gentlemen, I am really stuck at that point. I am refusing to make any changes
before there is either some kind of agreement - or there are some minimally
conclusive voting results.
I do not take any sides (I cannot have any personal opinion, not using French).
I am just freezing the situation.

All answers ask to perform the change. How is that not an agreement? I was
hoping to get it in this release of Ubuntu. Alas.

 Bug description:
   [Impact]
In the fr(oss) keymap, both space and Ctrl + space return the same
XLookupString, which prevents space from being used in some applications.

This had been fixed in lucid and maverick, but the patch appears to
have been misplaced during the (rather major) update from 1.8 to 2.1,
thus the reports of it regressing in comments #135 and #141, as well
   as dupe bug #938671.

   [Development Fix]
Patch 128_fix_oss_ctrl_space_accelerator.patch fixed this problem in
lucid and maverick, but was dropped in natty when we updated to upstream
xkeyboard-config 2.1. However, the patch was also sent upstream and
accepted there. So for quantal a cherrypick of that commit was backported.

   [Stable Fix]
Since currently quantal is shipping the same xkeyboard-config version as
precise, we can carry the same patch there as well.

   [Test Case]
   1. Set keyboard to fr(oss). (Note due to unrelated bug, you need to do
this in your /etc/defaults/keyboard config file.)
   2. Start rhythmbox
   3. Do a song search
   4. Type in a search term that includes a space character

Broken Behavior: Space triggers the play/pause function in rhythmbox
Fixed Behavior: A space character is inserted

   [Regression Potential]
The patch is one we carried in lucid and maverick (when rhythmbox was
the default music player IIRC), and has been upstream for a while. So I
think it is a safe change.

Actually, I'm surprised there have not been more complaints about it
lately. But during the interim we'd switched to banshee so perhaps
   users didn't notice it.

   [Original Report]
I tried to search for The Do in the search bar, but the space bar
didn't write a space. Instead, it played the currently selected song (space
is the shortcut for playing/pausing the song). I've just installed the last
 Hardy release candidate.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013881]

2014-04-17 Thread Swâmi Petaramesh
Sergey, you might want to check Ubuntu bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xkeyboard-config/+bug/1013881
, which is a downstream reflection of this one.

There are some other loud voices there that you might consider as
taking part to the vote that you want.

I had in my office 2 peopl that complained about this, this month. Maybe
you could count them as well ?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013881]

2014-04-17 Thread Swâmi Petaramesh
BTW Sergey, I'm a bit surprised that you want a vote to fix something
that people complain about, when you didn't need any vote to break it in
the first place...

Would you need a vote, I suggest that you put a survey system online by
yourself on any web page that you'd like (so you know the vote is
impartial), and we let people know about it...

If you asks for a vote, it sounds logical that you organize it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1268275] Re: 10de:07e1 [HP Pavilion p6020jp Desktop PC] Ubuntu 13.10 random screen freeze

2014-04-17 Thread Colin Silvester
Hello,

Sorry for the lack of activity. As mentioned previously, the affected PC
is a primary use PC and I can't take too many risks with beta versions
(or roll back versions). Now that 14.04 is out, I will upgrade and will
post again to this bug page once I have been able to use it and detect
whether this issue has been resolved.
