[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1313459] Re: Screen corruption with Radeon 6670

2014-04-28 Thread Alexander Gitter
** Description changed:

Unfortunately I have no reliable way of reproducing this issue, but it
seems that after some time of using Ubuntu (especially when browsing
websites with firefox) the graphics are getting corrupted.

It starts with some small artifacts (single lines and pixels) and all of
the sudden the entire screen is full of artifacts and the OS is
  basically unusable at this state.

- Coincidentelly, I've had this problem with Arch Linux before. I was able to
fix it, by setting the power profile of the GPU to mid or high as described
here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI#Profile-based_frequency_switching
+ Coincidentally, I've had this problem with Arch Linux before. I was able to
fix it, by setting the power profile of the GPU to mid or high as described
here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI#Profile-based_frequency_switching
So to me it seems like this might be related to power management.

Doing some more testing with Ubuntu, I was able to fix the corruption
when switching the profile to mid and then logging out and in again.
- Leaving the profile at low did not fix the issue after re-login.
+ Leaving the profile at default/low did not fix the issue after re-login.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1313525] [NEW] partial screen lockup after login with lightdm/xfwm4 and intermittant lockups after

2014-04-28 Thread wgoltz
Public bug reported:

Desktop freezes for about 10 secs during startup. Panel0 is visible and
appears to be being correctly updated (netload and weather plugins
display and update normally). Touchpad and pointer appear to work.
Desktop unfreezes automatically and boot proceeds normally. Then get
intermittant lockups where no windows or menus can be changed or moved,
typing on keyboard doesn't do anything. Contents of active windows seem
to update correctly and with no loss of speed. Can switch to background
terminals (ctl-alt-f1..6) which function correctly. I haven'tbeen able
to spot anything strange in what is running during the lockups but I
don't really know what to look for or how to look.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1313546] [NEW] keyboard shortcuts not working

2014-04-28 Thread Alfredo Marchini
Public bug reported:

Hi all,
since the release upgrade to 14.04 amd64 I have some problems with keyboard, I
think the problem is xorg or gnome-shell related, I'll try to explain it. The
laptop is a Asus N56VZ, if I press any of the fn keys (except the laptop screen
on-off) they don't work anymore, no response from the os.
But If I go in settings - keyboard - shortcuts, I find the fn buttons
properly configured and, If I try to reconfigure the keyboard backlight fn
button, for example, the system recognize it, as any other fn button.
So the system recognize the fn buttons, but they don't work inside gnome-shell
session.
Another strange think is the CTRL+ALT+T button, that doesn't work anymore, but
in keyboard shortcuts is correctly recognized and configured.
Thank you very much
Bye

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1313654] [NEW] Left click does not work anymore

2014-04-28 Thread Andrei Petcu
Public bug reported:

Hi, from times to times the left click does not work anymore and
applications do not get focus. I changed the mouse from the Microsfot
mouse I have to a Logitech and it still happened. I have this issue on
LinuxMint 16 also so I don't think it's Unity. If I restart lightdm or
X.org server it works for some time and the it happenes again.

How can I troubleshoot this further? Maybe there is an app that grabs
focus or something and it isn't a Ubuntu bug. Do you have a better
workaround until this gets fixed? Restarting lightdm is not very
plesant.

Coincidentally, I've had this problem with Arch Linux before. I was able to
fix it, by setting the power profile of the GPU to mid or high as described
here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI#Profile-based_frequency_switching
So to me it seems like this might be related to power management.

Doing some more testing with Ubuntu, I was able to fix the corruption

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1313071] Re: No hdmi video output in 13.10

2014-04-28 Thread Jacques Blain
I have additional information concerning this bug :

At work I easely connect and get an output trough HDMI on an Asus
monitor. At home I used to get the same on my LG plasma TV. Now the TV
actually shows that it is connecting but the PC never sends an actual
output signal to the TV.

So it has to be some sort of driver issue in this case

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1313423] Re: Unity crashing

2014-04-28 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1247668] [NEW] NumLock turned off on layout switch

2014-04-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Extracting from bug 1218322, confirmed there by multiple users:

When switching the keyboard layout using a shortcut (such as Alt+Shift),
NumLock functionality is (mostly) turned off. More precisely: it goes
into an inconsistent state where pressing numpad 5 inserts the digit 5,
but the other numpad keys move the cursor. Pressing the NumLock key
turns it off completely (pressing numpad 5 no longer does anything), and
pressing once again turns it on.

This means that if someone prefers to have the NumLock functionality
switched on all the time, they have to press the NumLock key twice after
each layout change. I find this a huge usability problem.

(I don't have a LED, so I cannot tell how that one is lit.)

The bug is not present when changing the layout via the indicator
applet.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1247668] Re: NumLock turned off on layout switch

2014-04-28 Thread Egmont Koblinger
I attach a patch to xorg-server which seems to fix it for me. Side
effects are yet to be discovered :)

Rebuild xorg-server with the following series of commands (might not be
the best way, but that's what I found, I'm not yet familiar with these):

sudo apt-get install build-essential fakeroot dpkg-dev
mkdir build
cd build
apt-get source xorg-server
sudo apt-get build-dep xorg-server
cd xorg-server-1.15.1
cp ~/Downloads/xorg-server-xkb-numlock.patch debian/patches/ # replace
Downloads appropriately
echo xorg-server-xkb-numlock.patch debian/patches/series
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -b
cd ..
sudo dpkg -i xserver-common_1.15.1-0ubuntu2_all.deb
xserver-xorg-core_1.15.1-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb

** Patch added: Works for me, probably not the proper solution though

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1311399] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 forgets Display Settings from monitors.xml / xorg.conf (Dual-Screen Setup)

2014-04-28 Thread Kenneth Long
I think I have this bug, also. I have two displays attached to my notebook. a
Dual display works .. but the config does not save after reboots. I have
nvidia driver installed and Dual display persisted between boots before Trusty.
I'm using NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-331.67.run driver. blacklisted nouveau. not
using synaptic for the driver at this moment.

Let me know what other info to provide.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1313847] [NEW] xrandr: Configure crtc0 failed on awake from sleep

2014-04-28 Thread Matthew Walker
Public bug reported:

Every time I put my laptop to sleep and wake it up again I am presented
with the graphical login prompt as expected. The prompt works, I have a
mouse, keyboard works, etc. Once I successfully login the display turns
black and remains that way no matter how long I wait. The computer is
responsive and I can switch to a tty. Switching to a tty and then back
to the graphical desktop does not produce anything (screen remains
black.)

From the TTY I've tried to configure X manually using xrandr and the --display
argument:
`xrandr --output LVDS1 --mode 1366x768 --pos 0x0 --rotate normal --display :0`

This gives me the error xrandr: Configure crtc0 failed. Note that
1366x768 is the native display mode of my monitor. If it matters I'm
using the i915 driver (I have an intel graphics controller, revision 9).

If I run this command after a successful boot, it works (I can change to
a different display mode and then back again no problem).

Logs don't seem to have anything interesting in them; but I may not be
looking in the right logs at the right time. Guidance needed :)

If I reboot the computer from the tty; I get the xfce graphical shutdown
screen.

I'm currently running xubuntu 14.04. This laptop used to run xubuntu
12.10 without issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1171411] Re: 8086:2a42 [Lenovo ThinkPad T400] xfwm4 displays window borders visually glitched

2014-04-28 Thread b3nmore
Ok, thats weird: I still get the striped borders occasionally on a fully
updated trusty, but only when I use the Greybird-compact xfwm4 theme (or so it
seems). I replaced therefore all the left-*, right-*, bottom-* xpms of the
theme with those of the normal Greybird theme and didn't see striped borders
anymore.
It seems, that the intel driver with sna enabled chokes some times on the
repeated use of those particular pixmaps.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1313459] Re: Screen corruption with Radeon 6670

2014-04-28 Thread Alexander Gitter
I did some more testing today.
It seems one simple way to reproduce this is to just move the mouse pointer
around on the login screen. At one point this even lead to a kernel panic (see
attachement).

Again, setting the power profile to something other than default seems
to get rid of the problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1313902] [NEW] screen freezes when pointer is moved with touchpad

2014-04-28 Thread Imre Széll
Public bug reported:

on a freshly installed trusty (kubuntu) asus x550lb notebook, nvidia
geforce gt 740m, with an elantech touchpad, when moving the pointer
with touchpad, the screen suddenly freezes. additionally, when the
problem occurs, the following message is logged to the syslog:

acpid: client 11187[0:0] has disconnected

switching to character mode and back after waiting a few seconds
(ctrl+alt+f1, ctrl+alt_f7) makes the problem disappear and the i see in
the syslog the following:

acpid: client connected from 11187[0:0]
acpid: 1 client rule loaded

if i do something during the freeze (moving the pointer, clicking etc),
it happens after the switchback.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1034132] Re: [MacBook2, 1] Touchpad cursor moving in steps

2014-04-28 Thread Rob
I tried Ubuntu 14.04 on a Macbook 2,1 (1.83GHz Core 2 Duo). The cursor
doesn't work right. Apple cut support for OSX 10.6 so I wanted to switch
to Linux but I need the trackpad.

According to this person, it's not just the driver but Apple's
integration of hardware with software:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1313332] Re: 45+ seconds to boot

2014-04-28 Thread Felicia
Per request: Could you install pybootchartgui, reboot, and add the
image created in /var/log/bootchart?

I didn't find bootchart, but did find and attach a new boot.log file
after running pybootchartgui.

Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu:

 Bug description:
14.04 takes noticably longer to boot than 13.04 (pretty fast) and

Others have suggested that I try the proprietary drivers for my Radeon
Graphics HD7340. I tried both of the proprietary drivers and they each
took longer than the xorg driver (by a couple seconds).
