Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1313402] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 freezes on login
I was also experiencing this problem. After some googling I found a thread that specifies this to be an Nuvou drivers issue (or rather missing Nvidia drivers). To correct the problem install the nvidia drivers. You can do this on the login screen press ctrl+alt+F2, which will bring you to a TTY interface. Login there and issue sudo apt-get install nvidia-current sudu reboot (or hard rebot as I had to do one). Once you restart the issue should be mitigated. However, the problem with the drivers should still be investigated. I am not sure what logs I can provide but I have taken a snapshot of all of them. I am attaching the faulty Xorg logs ** Attachment added: "Xorg with Nuvou driver failure" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xubuntu-meta/+bug/1313402/+attachment/4102019/+files/Xorg.0.log.old ** Package changed: xubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) => xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1313402 Title: Ubuntu 14.04 freezes on login To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau/+bug/1313402/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1313402] [NEW] Ubuntu 14.04 freezes on login
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I recently upgraded my Xubuntu installation to 14.04. After doing so, I have been unable to use my system. It will boot fine, load up my home screen, and after a few minutes, will freeze. Nothing can be done, no commands give any response. I can sometimes move the mouse around, but cannot click on anything or make any changes to the system. The only option I have is to use the power button to force it to turn off. My first thought is that it is maybe a graphics card issue, that somehow when updating, it turned off the third-party packages to run NVIDIA. However, since it freezes so soon (and sooner every time you boot), it is almost impossible to diagnose the issue. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314836] [NEW] Display Is Slow
Public bug reported: I've noticed that the display is slow when I log into my user if my external monitor is on. (I'm using a VGA cable.) I've tested this by completely unplugging the VGA during boot (but plugging it back in b4 login), but that didn't seem to work, so I logged out and logged in without the VGA and the display seemed to be fine. Oh, when I say slow I mean that I have a ton of apps in my "launcher", and when I move my mouse over the launcher, the apps take a long time to "spread", as if my computer can only do 5 fps. Anyway, it's kind of annoying and I hoped you guys can fix it! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314787] [NEW] Memory leak
Public bug reported: I upgraded my PC from Ubuntu 13.10 to 14.04 (released one). After upgrade I found the PC slows down soon even without apps running on it. When checking with system monitor I found all the physical memory was full and the swap file was in use (which never happened with 13.10). I restarted the PC and left it alone. After six hours memory consumption of xorg went from original 250MB to 1,3GB. I guess there is a memory leak in the process. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314780] [NEW] Full screen between xorg and VMWare-Workstation
Public bug reported: This is a minor bug that seems to be a conflict between xorg and VMWare Workstation 9 in Ubuntu 14.04. It seems most noticeable and prevalent with dual monitors. This issue was not present in 12.04. The taskbar at the top of the screen that is always present seems to give issues with full screen VMWare. In 12.04, it would stay at the top for a bit and then go away if you clicked anywhere in the full screen window. With 14.04, it doesn't show up at all anymore but it is still "there". It is a ghost of it and then will be a selectable option. If you click in the full screen window anywhere, the taskbar does not show at the top, but it is still selectable as an option. The "focus" does not go to the full screen. You can do things in there as long as the thing you are trying to do doesn't reside at the top of the screen where it would be the taskbar. Once you select the "top of the screen where the taskbar should be, this makes the VMWare window the active window in xorg, it then goes on top of the taskbar again. This is a major inconvenience bug because when you try to select anything in the top right while the taskbar is still "on top" of the full screen without appearing to be on top, it will select either the calendar or power settings or anything up in the top right. Attached are screenshots as the process happens. Step 1. Click on the screen which ISN'T FULL SCREEN VMWARE. Step 2. Click anywhere in full screen VMWare window except top where taskbar resides. Taskbar is hidden but still "on top". Step 3. Click where taskbar is in right corner and it will overtake the full screen window. You can select date, power, english, etc.. Step 4. Click anywhere else at very top of screen, taskbar will then go away and VMWare fullscreen will work properly. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1283938] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 blank screen after wakeup from sleep
I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 64-bit (out of the box, updated) and I'm having the same issue. My hardware is a laptop Asus with AMD A8-4500M Trinity APU (Radeon HD 7640G) and updated BIOS. To make some Fn keys work I had to add "acpi_osi='!Windows 2012' to my grub command line, I'm dual booting Windows 7. I have been making some research and, as of now, I can confirm this problem wasn't present in ubnutu 12.04 with original HWE stack. For this APUs, 14.04 is a major step forward in terms of power management and 3D acceleration, so I can't go back to 12.04, because sometimes I really have to push my hardware to its limits (working with GIS software) and 12.04 fan speed is always high and noisy. I can confirm the same behavior is present in Manjaro Linux Xfce with kernels 3.12 to 3.14. In Ubuntu, changing HWE stack to previous releases the problem is present too (from quantal to my knowledge). So, I'm not keeping my fingers crossed with this bug. I have tried a lot of workarounds: disabling lightlocker, unpicking options in lightlocker settings, uninstalling pm-utils, forcing nomodeset, scripting power management brightness... but nothing seems to work. Dear Mr. Penalver, unfortunately I'm not capable of doing that. I'm currently running the 3.14.2 kernel and the bug persists. I believe that it comes from the nvidia driver. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314607] [NEW] nvidia GForce 7600LE: impossible to start/install 14.04
Public bug reported: Hardware: PackardBell Intel Core2 6400, 2GB, Video: NVidia GForce 7600LE (anything 32 Bit) The Upgrade of 12.04 to 14.04 resulted in showing a garbled Screen (probably Textmode with old Ram-Contents). Without Loginprompt the System was no longer usable. Start of Live-DVDs (Ubuntu + Kubuntu. 14.04 32bit): Same Effect: garbled screen I've no problems to use some propr. Drivers - but before that the system should at least work, so that it might get installed from there.. Thus I had to switch to the actual MINT: there were no problems. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314028] [NEW] Graphical glitches with SNA enabled on Intel graphics
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Operating System: Xubuntu 14.04 (Update from 13.10) CPU: Intel Celeron 847 1,1GHz RAM: 4GB Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 2000 Steps to reproduce the issue: - Open multiple windows on seperate workspaces. - Switch between windows via Alt+Tab. Expected Result: Application windows are rendered correctly, there are no visible graphical glitches. Actual Result: There are graphical glithes where the active window is only rendered partially, e.g. switching from Thunderbird to Chromium leads to a mixture of both applications. When hovering the mouse pointer over elements, those are updated and rendered correctly. The same effect may happen when minimizing / maximizing windows. Workaraound: Instead of using SNA, fall back to UXA rendering mode. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Graphical glitches with SNA enabled on Intel graphics https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1314028 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314587] [NEW] Windows slow/stall/freeze when minimizing/restoring/etc in Unity 7 14.04
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce: * Minimize current window or alt-tab between windows * Reveal launcher to click on application * Click `Super` to bring up Dash * Hold `Super` to bring up Keyboard Shortcuts What should happen: Action completes smoothly and quickly. What happens instead: * Action may be slow / animation jerky. * Action may stall (animation frozen on given frame, e.g. window partially minimized) - initiating another action cancels first action and second action may succeed (most often calling Guake with F12 seems to solve the issue) * Action may freeze - cursor no longer moves - a soft reboot (Alt+PrtScr+REISUB) usually works, otherwise a hard reboot Notes: * Not application specific. Minimizing is reliably slow/stalls with minimizing Firefox (including 29, I do not have a lot of bookmarks) or Pidgin, but I use those programs more often. * I am using an Nvidia Optimus machine with the default Nouveau driver - no `nvidia-prime`, no Bumblebee. I temporarily installed the latest stable Nvidia driver (including `nvidia-prime`) and it made no difference. * I did not experience this issue on the same machine running 13.10 (with Bumblebee). * I am running Maximus. Merci d'avance, alex Hello, so would I rather my rctrl key to behave as a control key. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1231916] Re: AMD A6-5400k APU with Radeon HD 8600 - Failed to start X after Installation
Also, this issue cannot be reproduced with 12.04.4 on 201305-13489, which is not a hybrid-graphic system ([1002:6600] only) And cannot be reproduced with 201307-13919, a hybrid-graphic system ([1002:9995] + [1002:6600]) Thus I think this might be a system-specific issue (or the combination of video controllers) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1231916 Title: AMD A6-5400k APU with Radeon HD 8600 - Failed to start X after Installation To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1231916/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
