[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 124406] Re: Keyboard keys get stuck and repeat

2014-07-07 Thread Vyacheslav
in my situation - keyboard imitated of clicking '1', '2', '3' etc. even if I
didn't work on keyboard and mouse for 30 min to several hours. The symbols that
were stucked (imitated) didn't repet the symbols I manually typed before. The
bug appeared more often when RealVNC server or TeamViewer server worked (and I
typed symbols and moved mouse remotely - and VNC server or TeamViewer server
received this symbols and mouse movements). Every time then bug began - it
repeated from 1 to some hundreds of same symbols - and I every time can stop
the bug by pressing any key phisically in keyboard or remotely via VNC server
or TeamViewer server (but after such a stopping the bug - it could be begin
again after period from 0.5 seconds to some hours).
THE PROBLEM SOLVED in my situation by phisically removing the USB device called
'SkypeMate' (USB-B2K model) (this device connects Skype software on desktop via
USB with wire connected to standard office phone device to make calls via it).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1338521] [NEW] [xorg-edgers] nvidia-settings-340.17 missing registry key file

2014-07-07 Thread Tais Plougmann Hansen
Public bug reported:

Running nvidia-settings currently gives the following error:

ERROR: nvidia-settings could not find the registry key file. This file should
have been installed along with this driver at either
/usr/share/nvidia/nvidia-application-profiles-340.17-key-documentation or
   /usr/share/nvidia/nvidia-application-profiles-key-documentation. The
application profiles will continue to work, but values cannot be preopulated or
validated, and will not be listed in the help text.
   Please see the README for possible values and descriptions.

Seems like the file is missing in the package.

Adding HIBERNATE_RESUME_POST_VIDEO=no to /etc/pm/config.d/hibernate
solved for me the problem.

Now the resume from hibernate is working without a black screen/freeze.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1338581] [NEW] keyboard mapping changes after laptop runs out of battery

2014-07-07 Thread Yuv
Public bug reported:

To whom it may concern:

Apology if I assigned the bug to the wrong package, my understanding is
that keyboard layout is an xorg thing.

I have just installed Xubuntu 14.04 on a bare metal laptop. I closed
the lid thinking it would hybernate. Instead it depleted the battery
and died. On reboot the block of keys between 7, 0, m and / was mapped
to the numeric block in cursor arrows mode. I would expect it to stay
mapped as it was before the power outage.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04
Package: xorg 1:7.7+1ubuntu8
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-30.55-generic 3.13.11.2
Uname: Linux 3.13.0-30-generic x86_64
ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.2
Architecture: amd64
CurrentDesktop: XFCE
Date: Mon Jul  7 09:29:23 2014
InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-06-12 (25 days ago)
InstallationMedia: Xubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty Tahr - Release amd64 (20140416.2)
SourcePackage: xorg
Symptom: display
UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install)

** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 124406] Re: Keyboard keys get stuck and repeat

2014-07-07 Thread Vyacheslav
thank you all for help! as I already understood - in this topic users reports
about DIFFERENT bugs (but the same sympthoms) - if you are lazy to read this
topic above:
1) if your dmesg log contains USB errors ('reset low speed USB device' or
other) - try to physically unplug USB devices (mayby onboard keyboards in
notebooks seen as like USB devices in some situations?) or re-plug to ANOTHER
USB controller; try to use USB keyboard (another keyboard); try to disable
legacy USB support in BIOS. This is kernel problem.
2) if your dmesg log contains non-USB errors ('Unknown key released' or
something else) -
try to change the BIOS setting 'Plug and play OS' to it's default state ('No');
try to disable WiFi adapter;
try to disable OpenGl in KDE, Gnome, ...   ;
try to set atkbd.softrepeat=1 parameter to the kernel boot parameters in Grub;
try to unload the battery, AC and thermal modules of kernel after booting;
try to set acpi=off parameter to the kernel boot parameters in Grub;
try to disable legacy USB support in BIOS;
try to execute xset r rate 1000 50 command;
try to set in BIOS do not check if PCI-express videocard not installed search
for PCI video card, if not - try to initialize internal video card - instead of
it set BIOS to initialize your existing video card first;
try to disable auto-repeat keys in keyboard in KDE or Gnome settings;
try to switch to another kernel;
try to execute xmodmap /usr/share/xmodmap/xmodmap.us-101 each time the bug
occurs;
try to set highres=off nohz=off noapm parameters to the kernel boot parameters
in Grub;
try to remove gnome-sensors-applet , lm_sensors , net-snmp-libs , hplip , hpijs
, net-snmp packages or packages with same functionality;
try to edit /etc/mkinitcpio.conf and remove the word 'keyboard' from line
HOOKS=... ;
try to remove gnome-accessibility-themes , gnome-accessibility-themes-extras
accessibility packages or packages with same functionality;
try to remove hotkeys-setup package or package with same functionality;
try to report at bugs.launchpad.net and ubuntuforums.org about this bug
(include your list of hardware (lspci command) and Linux version (uname -a
command) and dmesg log)
This is a kernel problem also.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1338581] Re: keyboard mapping changes after laptop runs out of battery

2014-07-07 Thread Yuv
Some more observations:
* I assigned this bug to the wrong package. It is not xorg. After removing
the default GRUB_HIDDEN stuff (really not a good default IMHO, it prevents
users from learning things, and it also prevents users who may want to dual
boot Windows) I verified that the bad key mapping is present at the grub stage
as well. At this point I do not know what package to assign this bug to.
Maybe kernel?
* I found a workaround (but should not be): reboot into BIOS. Make no change
whatsoever in the BIOS, just turn it off and then on again and things are back
to normal.
* I can reproduce this consistently, 100% of the times
* The laptop, is a Vaio Pro 13

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1338715] [NEW] Snapping windows get enabled automatically sometimes

2014-07-07 Thread Xtien
Public bug reported:

Every once in a while, the windows edges get sticky. In combination with
Wobbly Windows, this gives an annoying behavior. The setting for snappy
windows in compiz is off (stays of), and sticky edges in system
settings/display are off and stay off. I resolve the issue by fooling
around with these settings and by switching wobbly windows off and on
again. But the edges should not get sticky by themselves, should they?

It may be related to Google Chrome. I noticed strange behavior of Chrome
when this happened just a minute ago, like the Chrome window flickering
and turning on and off.

Unmarking this as 'invalid' because it's still the number one critical
bug in the Unity 8 desktop.

project, but the fix has apparently not yet been released in Ubuntu

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1338676] Re: desktop environment

2014-07-07 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1308105] Re: Xfce resets TV mode to NULL when power cycled

2014-07-07 Thread Straximus
I downgraded xfce-settings to the 4.11.0 package from Saucy, and locked
it at that version. It eliminated the issue, and everything appears to
function normally.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1337749] Re: High CPU usage after resizing a window

2014-07-07 Thread Furkan Alaca
Update: I received my new card today (R7 260X). It isn't fully supported
under the 3.13 kernel, so I had to go back to fglrx. The same problem
still persists.
