[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1361062] Re: Bug report

2014-08-25 Thread Filip Sohajek
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1349866] Re: [HP ProBook 455 G1] Display blank after resume (consistent)

2014-08-25 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Václav Šmilauer, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available
from the very top line at the top of the page (not the daily folder) following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream
kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this
bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested exactly
shown as:
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.17-rc1

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 861268] Re: text corruption in terminals (xterm, urxvt) and emacs

2014-08-25 Thread Chris Bainbridge
This is reproducible on the live desktop from ubuntu-12.04.5.iso running
on a Thinkpad T42 (radeon graphics) - boot the iso, start xterm and the
typed text is immediately corrupted with characters being replaced with
white boxes, but dragging the window causes the boxes to be replaced by
the expected characters. The problem does not seem to happen under
gnome-terminal. As noted above, switching to Unity 2D seems to fix the
issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314871] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 random screen freeze while Normal OS activites

2014-08-25 Thread Ken
Toshiba PORTEGE R830 (Display Intel i915) , upgrading from 13.10 10
14.04 both monitors are freezing (in any case the mouse pointer is
moving) randomly. Ctrl-Alt-F1 and Ctrl-Alt-F7 is solving the issue not
always, sometimes I need Ctrl-Alt-Can and logout. The problem seems is
not happening if I'm using the built-in display

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1361209] [NEW] Hybrid Graphics, overheating with fans running constantly

2014-08-25 Thread Anchit Singh
Public bug reported:

I have a Dell Inspiron 3521 with AMD/Intel hybrid graphics.
OS - Ubuntu 14.04.1 (Linux kernel 3.13.0)

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor
Graphics Controller (rev 09)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]
Thames [Radeon HD 7500M/7600M Series] (rev ff)

sudo cat /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch
0:IGD:+:Pwr::00:02.0
1:DIS: :DynOff::01:00.0

Fan runs constantly, and battery backup is maximum 2 hours or even less
sometimes using the open-source drivers.

I have posted a similar info for xserver-xorg-video-ati because I found a bug
report #1304912.
But recently I installed fglrx drivers to see if I get better results and
changed the driver in use to Intel from the Catalyst-Control-Center.
The observation I made was that the problem persisted even when only the intel
drivers were in use.
So there could be problem with xserver-xorg-video-intel as the discrete
graphics card is shown to be dynamically off.

In xfsettingsd 4.11.2 there appears to be a regression that when a TV

It happens via a RANDR event being sent to all X clients when the TV
gets turned off.

xfsettingsd thinks that it should switch to an internal output, but
desktops don't have one. So when the TV comes back on the bus it seems
like it's an extra monitor and xfsettingsd gets confused.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1361277] [NEW] while installing the driver I need is not there causing problems

2014-08-25 Thread Petra
Public bug reported:

Since Ubuntu 13.10 my computer needs the additional driver video driver
for AMD graphic cards by fglrx. However, while installing (K)Ubuntu I
don't have that driver. So I can only use my computer for about 10
seconds, then have to wait for about 30 seconds while it's frozen until
I have another 10 seconds to click on the next item. Before Ubuntu 13.10
the driver that ubuntu provided automatically worked just fine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1358936] Re: [gm45] L-shaped memory with invalid swizzling

2014-08-25 Thread Alexander Lindo
Yes, I confirm this to be an issue with swapping. Disabling swap
resolves the issue of garbled graphics at the memory peak level. If
you're running a computer with enough ram, the swap partition can
permanently be disabled by adding swapoff -a to /etc/rc.local

This is merely just a workaround. Hope it gets fixed soon.

return to work after I used your command. But a little problem is, every
time when it suspend/resume, it should be used this command, or the
touchscreen can't work. Maybe we can write a script to make this
automatically

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1361451] [NEW] not sure just learning

Public bug reported:

I'm learning about Unix/Linux and I'm sure by the time I've learned enough I
will be able to give you a better response to this problem I'm having. I'm also
sure I will be reinstalling the OS I am using when I've learned enough to
install it properly. I'm good right now, no major problems but I know some of
my stuff isn't right. Not bad enough that I can't run my laptop. Thanks for

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1275416] Re: touchscreen do not work after suspend/resume

2014-08-25 Thread Ronald J. Wright
The attached script with the workaround mentioned in comment #19 ought
to do the trick. Simply copy it to the /etc/pm/sleep.d directory. I
tested it on my X201 Tablet, and I was able to get the touchscreen to
work on every resume.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1357746] Re: Compiz fails to load with xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.914-1~exp1ubuntu1 on some Intel hardware

2014-08-25 Thread jerrylamos
I get a similar compiz error on amd64. In my case, booting 3.16.0.6
kernels or before work fine.

Booting amd64 3.16.0-7, -8, -9, -10 kernels on the same install the
desktop runs but compiz hence unity do not.

Booting the newer .iso the live session fails the same way. Follow
through with the install and of course compiz etc. fail.

booting the 3.16.0-6 amd64 .iso runs fine.

I don't know if it is the same install are the different kernels chosen
out of /boot using the same Intel video driver?

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1359299

Do note, i386 32 bit 3.16.0-10 install and kernel on the same pc run
fine (for a development version).

How different is the 32 bit and the 64 bit compiz?

Of course, amd64 Lubuntu runs fine. Lubuntu doesn't use compiz I think.

2014-08-25 Thread Ronald J. Wright
And one more thing: make sure that file permissions for the script are
correctly set; otherwise, the script may not run when the system
resumes. I would suggest running the following command after copying it
to /etc/pm/sleep.d to make sure it will run when the system resumes:

sudo chmod +x /etc/pm/sleep.d/20_x200-wacom-workaround
