[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1364078] Re: Cannot set screen resolution above 1400x1050
I have tha same (1440, gamma, fglrx removed) with Radeon HD 4850, but only on upgraded ubuntu from 12.04 to 14.04 (both LTS) . With 14.04.1 LTS desktop live I have correct resolution: root@ubuntu:~# xrandr -q Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 8192 x 8192 HDMI-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) VGA-0 connected primary 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 477mm x 268mm 1920x1080 60.0*+ 1680x1050 60.0 1280x1024 60.0 1440x900 59.9 1280x960 60.0 1280x800 59.8 1024x768 60.0 800x60060.3 56.2 640x48060.0 DVI-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) #lspci 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] RV770 [Radeon HD 4850] On the upgraded version I have to use -q12 and -s to see 1920x1080, but can't add it - gamma missing. As there is no xorg.conf, it is hard to move settings ... It looks, as always, the best way to upgrade ubuntu is to reinstall ubuntu. I think to install all packages from live distribution missing in the installed version, as it is all autodiscovery, but I feel I will have to reinstall it. But if installed ubuntu has different autodiscovery settings compared to the live version, maybe someone knows, how to change it? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1364078 Title: Cannot set screen resolution above 1400x1050 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/1364078/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1386721] Re: Graphics Slow After Upgrade 14.04 - 14.10
As suggested here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2249774, a workaround is to upgrade to gnome staging. The forum post suggests testing, but staging solved all problems for me: sudo apt-add-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3 sudo apt-add-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3-staging sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade This can of course introduce other problems. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1386721 Title: Graphics Slow After Upgrade 14.04 - 14.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1386721/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1393241] [NEW] Xorg memory leak
Public bug reported: Xorg keeps going up with its physical memory usage and it keeps on doing so until it takes over all of my RAM and eventually my system becomes highly unstable. It goes up faster if I do stuff on my pc, like browsing or using applications. After a few days of non-stop usage I need to restart it because my pc cannot handle it anymore, it skyrockets, slowly but surely. I'm using ubuntu trusty, fglrx gpu drivers and everything is encrypted using built-in encryption. This is a serious issue and needs to be fixed asap, it renders the pc useless after just a few days. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1026046] Re: Missing support for thumb resting on bottom of clickpad
Ok - since there has been little to no developer progress on this bug for a long time, I have tried to muck through the synaptics driver source code on my own to track this problem down. I tried the patch suggested by Charlie but it did not really help. It ignored a finger on the touchpad button if it was the *second* finger to hit the pad, but the problem remained if it was the first finger down. I have made an adjustment that effectively fixes the problem on my touchpad - fingers outside the active area are ignored no matter the order in which they touch the pad. I will post my modified driver source here in the hopes that it will fix the issue for other users as well. I have to say that the synaptics driver is a complete mess of spaghetti code (I found GOTO statements. That's right... GOTO statements!). I am very far from actually understanding the driver - I only decrypted enough to make this modification. The one side effect that I am aware of that results from my change is that you cannot right-click using the right soft button if you have other fingers on the touchpad already. You either need to two-finger click or remove the other fingers before right clicking. Other than that everything else works, including two-finger scrolling (onggie's suggestion sacrifices this). I do not use tap-to- click since it drives me crazy, so I have not tested this. To apply this fix you need to replace your installed xorg synaptics driver. I will try to walk you through this here. First, you need to figure out where your driver is installed. Different distributions put it in different places. If you use Debian, the driver will be installed to /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input and the extra stuff will be in other places in /usr. Some ditros put components in /usr/local/..., so you need to figure this out. I suggest using your package manager to locate the xorg synaptics driver and look at the installed files - this will tell you where they are hiding. Next, download and extract the archive I have attached. Open a terminal to the extracted directory. You need to run ./configure next, but you must pass it the installation prefix so when you install the driver it goes to the correct place for your distro. In Debian, run ./configure --prefix=/usr. If your distro stores the driver in /usr/local, then use this as the prefix instead. Next, run make and ensure that it builds without error (you will probably need some dev packages installed). Then run sudo make install. Now, you need to set the AreaBottomEdge option for the driver to define the region you want to ignore fingers in. I suggest running synclient and find the value you have for the option RightButtonAreaTop. Use the same value for AreaBottomEdge. This will make sure that the button region and the active regions butt up against each other but do not overlap. When you know what value you want to use, open the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf and add the option value to there (create this file if it does not exist). My conf file looks like this: Section InputClass Identifier Trackpad MatchIsTouchpad on Driver synaptics Option TapButton11 Option TapButton22 Option TapButton33 #Uncomment the followings to scroll with your thumb #Option EmulateTwoFingerMinZ 70 #Option EmulateTwoFingerMinW 0 Option VertTwoFingerScroll 1 Option HorizTwoFingerScroll 0 #Let finger rest Option AreaBottomEdge 1822 EndSection Finally, you will need to reboot for the new driver to be loaded (unloading and re-loading the psmouse module does not do the trick - not sure why not). When you reboot, hopefully your clickpad woes will be over. Best of luck! ** Attachment added: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics_1.8.1.hacked.tar.gz https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/1026046/+attachment/4262107/+files/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics_1.8.1.hacked.tar.gz -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1026046 Title: Missing support for thumb resting on bottom of clickpad To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/1026046/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1008137] [NEW] Problems with graphic after closing fullscreen application
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I writing here because I have some problems on my 64bit Ubuntu 12.04 (probably Unity Shell or graphic drivers). When I: - close the fullscreen application (like Minecraft after pressing F11, but not in Firefox when I'm in fullscreen mode) - log on another account (without logout from 1st account) and then login back on previous account - back after suspend or hibernate I have some artifacts on my screen – just look at screenshoots below. I noticed that if I execute `unity --replace ; compiz --replace` most everything is fine again (however not every toolbar is placed in *top panel*). Also sometimes if I move the cursor over the launchbar (after I did one of these actions), it causes a decrease in the number of frames per second. I can move cursor however whole shell is little frozen. Wojciech Bartłomiej Chojnacki, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p xorg 1008137 Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information. As well, please note given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful. Thank you for your understanding. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1377872] Re: Double-buffered compositing performance is very poor (30 FPS)
As I've tracked the issue into the intel driver code and the workarounds for test case A don't help B, we might have to split this bug in two. ** Description changed: Double-buffered compositing performance is poor. Fortunately we don't use double-buffering in our default compositor (mostly), and Ubuntu touch does not use the default compositor either. However, if you make the compositor double-buffered, then it quickly drops down to 30 FPS while not consuming any significant CPU or render time. Test case A: Convert your compositor to double buffering by the code change suggested in bug 1350725. - Test case B: + Test case B (different bug?): Switch all clients to double-buffering using this branch: lp:~vanvugt/mir/double and then start a nested server. Now start a bunch of clients, and you will find they slow down to 30 FPS after only starting a few. This does not happen with the default triple buffered compositor. I've been ignoring this issue for a little while [1] thinking I had simply run out of power, although suspected that can't be right as this is a powerful quad-core i7 and it's slowing down with only 10 clients. [1] https://bugs.launchpad.net/mir/+bug/1350725/comments/1 Now today test case B has revealed (via MIR_CLIENT_PERF_REPORT) that the slowdown happens without using any significant render time (less than 2 ms) and without using any significant CPU (less than 20% of one out of four cores). So the conclusion is our default compositor is probably holding buffers for a little too long somewhere. Because that's the only sensible reason I can think of for my system to bog down to 30 FPS without stressing the CPU or GPU. We've got poor parallelism in our code somewhere. And once that's solved, we'll be able to make further improvements such as resolving bug 1350725. ** Changed in: mir Assignee: Cemil Azizoglu (cemil-azizoglu) = Daniel van Vugt (vanvugt) ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #86366 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=86366 ** Also affects: mesa via https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=86366 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Also affects: mesa (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1377872 Title: Double-buffered compositing performance is very poor (30 FPS) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mesa/+bug/1377872/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I've now confirmed it is just the page flip event that takes almost two frames to arrive. And there are two workarounds that seem to successfully kick the driver into action: 3.5. glFinish() or 0. env INTEL_DEBUG=sync Using either of these workarounds, rendering completes in about 1ms and select then returns the next page flip event (~16ms interval). So it seems the intel batching logic is deferring rendering way too long, or the page flip event delivery is being deferred. However the two workarounds suggest the former.
