[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1414778] Re: Click and draw of certain links results in double mouse pointer

2015-03-01 Thread Jens Herrmann
This is strange, I remember having answered this weeks ago and had also
received a reply of yours. I was not able to reproduce the bug in 15.04.
and you wrote this would likely not be fixed in 14.10. except I manage
to convince the developers of its importance.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1307168] Re: 046d:c05b [HP Pavilion g6-2152se Notebook PC] Logitech B110 USB mouse Randomly double clicks when I single click

2015-03-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
mohammad, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg 1307168

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes
button for attaching additional debugging information.

As well, given the information from the prior release is already
available, testing a release prior to the development one would not be
helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

Hi Christopher,

Exactly, if I force with vgaswitcheroo to DIScrete (radeon), display goes off.
I think, since it is a muxless system, Radeon GPU have no populated display

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at

 At a minimum, we need:
 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
 problem,
 2. The behavior you expected, and
 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1401623] Re: 1002:674a [HP Z620 Workstation] Corrupted mouse cursor on one of the screens

2015-03-01 Thread Tynach
Christopher, it is unlikely that any automated tool is ever going to
capture this bug any more than it already has. It is much more
beneficial to find out why it might NOT happen, than why it DOES happen.
What's more, is that it seems that this bug is in the proprietary driver
upstream... So the most helpful thing we could do to get this fixed, is
to show how many people are affected.

Because the current way of doing things does not in any way show how
many people are affected, the current way of doing things will simply
not help. It is utterly flawed, and those articles don't help to address
this matter. For one thing, those articles are written with crashes and
bad behavior within open source software in mind - neither of which is
the case here.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1316263] Re: ubuntu 14.04 not comming out of lock, sometimes

2015-03-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
s lozano, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
As per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-
support/product/precision-t5400/drivers an update to your computer's
buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A11). If you update to this
following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change
anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status New.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1313037] Re: Unity.

2015-03-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
mathpfvr, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg 1313037

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes
button for attaching additional debugging information.

As well, given the information from the prior release is already
available, testing a release prior to the development one would not be
helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1424491] Re: apt-get fails to install fglrx or fglrx-updates in 14.04.2 and 12.04.5

2015-03-01 Thread Matthew M. Dean
I was able to get fglrx and fglrx installed. What I did was download
both the main ubuntu driver, and the non-x driver which is fglrx-core
from amd's website. I dpkg -i fglrx-core.deb and apt-get install gksu
and libgcc1 and by this time apt-get -f install (without any packages)
was displayed to fix dependencies. After that I could dpkg -i fglrx and
everything works.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1243642] Re: .Xmodmap not automatically loaded on start

2015-03-01 Thread HaraldK
Well,

% find /usr/share/X11/xkb/ -type f|wc -l
273

there are 273 files in this folder a I would definitively need a whole
tutorial to change keyboard settings. My hunch is that changing xkb is a
developer's job, while .Xmodmap is just great to change these one or two
odd keys on the keyboard.

I installed the patched debs from #251 on Utopic, as well as the nvidia

Thumbs up!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1305264] Re: Incorrect display when using monitor on the left on NVIDIA Optimus Card

2015-03-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Lukasz Piepiora, given the issue is improved in Vivid with the latest
driver, but not working as expected, let this report be re-scoped to how
the screen is visible to Ubuntu as a single, big instance instead of two
separate screens.

Hence, could you please report this upstream via
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia#Reporting_an_upstream_bug
?

** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) = nvidia-graphics-drivers-346
(Ubuntu)

** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-346 (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Triaged

** Summary changed:

- Incorrect display when using monitor on the left on NVIDIA Optimus Card
+ 10de:0ffc Incorrect display when using monitor on the left

** Summary changed:

- 10de:0ffc Incorrect display when using monitor on the left
+ 10de:0ffc [Lenovo ThinkPad W530] Incorrect display when using monitor on the
left

** Description changed:

- When using configuring screen to be placed on the left side Unity
- behaves incorrectly. The screen on the left monitor is containing
- duplication of the main screen. This means that when I reach edge of the
- external display the content contains duplicated copy of main display
- which is scrolled as I move cursor. The same content is shown on the
- main display.
+ In Vivid with the latest nvidia driver versions 346.35 and 346.47,
+ screen is visible to Ubuntu as a single, big instance instead of two
+ separate screens.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1423421] Re: Display getting lost the resolution every time in log in

2015-03-01 Thread jaisonvipoint
I have fixed this issue by making some changes in the monitor and then i was
able to get the default resolution settings. If it is a bug related to the
bios, why it hasn't yet occurred again?
Are you able to give any update on that?

Regards.
Jaison

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1426370] Re: Wrong keyboard layout after suspend

2015-03-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Raphael Mankin, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. As per http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-
netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-t61p an update to your
computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (2.30). If you update to
this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it
change anything?

Martin, thank you for taking the time to report this and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would
then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. The behavior you expected, and
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1305264] Re: Incorrect display when using monitor on the left on NVIDIA Optimus Card

2015-03-01 Thread Lukasz Piepiora
I was able to install Nvidia Driver 346.35 (as it was the latest version
available in the repository), the situation is indeed beter. The
graphics is no longer corrupted. I am able to use my monitor positioned
on the left side.

There is however one issue, the screen is visible to Ubuntu as a
single, big instance instead of two separate screens. I mean that if I
make a window full screen, instead of going full screen on the monitor
on which it is positioned, it spans accross two monitors.

Additionally I don't know if that's relevant, but Ubuntu's Display tool
sees correctly two screens while nvidia-settings shows only one (which
is incorrect), please see attachment.

PS. I am running Vivid build from 1st of March.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1388384] Re: faulty display callibration

2015-03-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Prameya Saha, thank you for taking the time to report this and helping
to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because
your description didn't include enough information. You may find it
helpful to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs .

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1419376] Re: system locks up

2015-03-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Richard Williams, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. As per http://ee.gigabyte.com/products/page/mb/ga-
k8vt800_1x/download/ an update to your computer's buggy and outdated
BIOS is available (F13). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1243642] Re: .Xmodmap not automatically loaded on start

2015-03-01 Thread Rafael Nonato
You are right. And though you don't have to change all of the 273 files
in there, it would be desireable for there to exist a user-level change
like was the case with .Xmodmap. I've seen a few explanations on the web
as to why Canonical would have wanted to break the old behavior, but
I'm still not sure why.

In any case, you don't have to change all of the 273 files. In most
cases, not even one. You can see a list of the already coded tweaks on
`/usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/evdev.lst` and add them. I managed to
permanently add the `grp:shifts_toggle`, `terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp` and
`caps:swapescape` tweaks (you can grep the the file `evdev.lst` to see a
more verbose description of what they do) by issuing the following
command:

`gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.input-sources xkb-options
['grp:shifts_toggle', 'terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp', 'caps:swapescape']`

Best,
Rafa

 Well,

there are 273 files in this folder a I would definitively need a whole
tutorial to change keyboard settings. My hunch is that changing xkb is a
developer's job, while .Xmodmap is just great to change these one or two
 odd keys on the keyboard.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1419356] Re: Secondary monitor not detected on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

2015-03-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
supertramp21, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg 1419356

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes
button for attaching additional debugging information.

As well, given the information from the prior release is already
available, testing a release prior to the development one would not be
helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1421562] Re: Not to visualize

2015-03-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Otavio, thank you for taking the time to report this and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would
then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. The behavior you expected, and
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1415958] Re: Laptop + external display does not suspend on lid close

2015-03-01 Thread Colin Law
Just in case it is relevant, when I upgraded to BIOS 1.18 I ran into bug
#887793 (Kworker constantly taking about 100% CPU) worked around as in
comment 114 there (echo disable
/sys/firmware/acpi/interrupts/gpe13). This suspend bug was still seen
before and after the workaround. Before disabling gpe13, top showed
kworker hogging one of the cores and there was no sign of Xorg near the
top of the cpu usage list. After implementing the workaround Xorg re-
appeared as normal with a few % of processor.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1421574] Re: Mouse partially not working

2015-03-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Aco, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg 1421574

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes
button for attaching additional debugging information.

As well, given the information from the prior release is already
available, testing a release prior to the development one would not be
helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1423421] Re: Display getting lost the resolution every time in log in

2015-03-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
jaisonvipoint, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. As per http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-
page.aspx?pid=4833#bios an update to your computer's buggy and outdated
BIOS is available (FF). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

Unfortunately it looks like you pointed me at the wrong BIOS update
version. Based on the MSN number on the back of my PC (10011367) I
should have flashed it with the one at
http://www.medion.com/gb/service/_lightbox/treiber_details.php?did=8289.
My fault for not double-checking your recommendation I guess. Still
trying to recover the machine:(.

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M2N68AM_PLUS/HelpDesk_Download/ an
update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (1804).
If you update to this following

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status New.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1423287] Re: Kernel locks up on boot sometimes after upgrade and switch from nvidia to nouveau driver

2015-03-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
B. Bogart, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg 1423287

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes
button for attaching additional debugging information.

As well, given the information from the prior release is already
available, testing a release prior to the development one would not be
helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1243642] Re: .Xmodmap not automatically loaded on start

2015-03-01 Thread Uriel Tunz
Yes, different. Editing those system-level files affects keyboard
mapping for ALL users. But this bug is about .Xmodmap, which is
per-user. My post noted that even xkb maps are lost on suspend/sleep.

Converting .Xmodmap files to xkb is straightforward. After manually
loading the desired .Xmodmap file, then:

[[ -d $HOME/.xkb ]] || mkdir $HOME/.xkb
xkbcomp $DISPLAY $HOME/.xkb/xkb-map

Then edit $HOME/.xkb/xkb-map, which is fairly intuitive, if needed.
Next, since the file won't load automatically no matter what, I did:

echo 'xkbcomp $HOME/.xkb/xkb-map $DISPLAY' ~/.bashrc

This way, at least the map can be loaded by just popping open a
terminal. (Remove the 'xmodmap .Xmodmap' line in .bashrc, if it was there.)

On single-head, multi-user systems where everyone doesn't use the same
keyboard map, instead of just being able to switch users, it would be
necessary to change configuration and restart (if control is only
system-wide). Completely unacceptable. This bug really needs fixing.

I don't think we are talking about the same thing when we talk of XKB. To
clarify what I am talking about, I meant editing the files under
 /usr/share/X11/xkb/

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1424071] Re: usb mouse

2015-03-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Serra-paulo, as per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-
support/product/inspiron-15-3542-laptop/drivers an update to your
computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A06). If you update to
this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it
change anything?
