[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1424491] Re: apt-get fails to install fglrx or fglrx-updates in 14.04.2 and 12.04.5

2015-03-10 Thread Kal Solette
It's been over two weeks now and no sign of a fix or even a response. So
sorry, I'm going back to Windows again. Everytime I try to get away from
it and use Ubuntu I get slapped in the face with bugs and issues. Why do
I even bother?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1377872] Re: Double-buffered compositing performance is very poor (30 FPS) on intel

2015-03-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I wonder if calling gbm_surface_lock_front_buffer() a bit earlier would
keep the system sufficiently awake to avoid this?...

2015-03-10 Thread EdouardC
Sorry, what is the way to downgrade from 14.04.2 to 14.04 ?

Many people say: remove Hardware Enablement Stack but it is pretty obscur.
No package has this name.
I know linux and distros, since I'm working with them since 1998!

Please help. Thanks in advance.
Regards.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1430276] [NEW] Desktop/windows painted incorrectly in dual monitor configuration

2015-03-10 Thread Bontius
Public bug reported:

Problem 1. if miniDVI (connected to NVIDIA card) is connected upon boot,
the desktop resolution is detected incorrectly.

Problem 2. lightdm won't start from scratch, needs to be restarted as service
on every boot, and then ctrl+alt+f7 has to be pressed repeatedly until the
login window appears, and then again repeatedly, until the desktop appears
(after which, the miniDVI can be inserted). If you skip the first repeated
pressing, you end up with a console window saying
/org/FreeDesktop/Accounts/User1000 has been changed. If you skip the second
repeated pressing, you revert to login window.
Yes, I've tried the following:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm
sudo chown -R username .
sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-desktop unity unity-greeter
including setting HEED_DEFAULT_DESKTOP_MANAGER=false in /etc/init.d/lightdm

Problem 3. right now (as of yesterday), unity decorator and dash does
not apper after login, and dconf reset -f /org/compiz/ setsid unity
has to be run from lightdm, provided that you somehow manage to get a
terminal up (ctrl+alt+T does not work, neither does Alt+f2)

The result of this:

sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
is:

A14
09/24/2014

Sorry for the mess, I'd be happy to provide further information, since this
laptop seems to be an outlier to all your fixes.
P.S. /etc/modprobe.d is not a file still persists...

upgrade to Vivid as soon as I can, as it is only a few weeks away, so no
backport needed and it can be closed as invalid.

I have been having this issue on my 14.04 install for a while now (probably as
long as Mario), i have been using my rPi and a button to run a command over ssh
to fix it
DISPLAY=:0.0 xrandr --output HDMI-0 --auto

i upgraded me and my dad to xfce 4.12 and now he has the issue ga-a55m-ds2
motherboard and a AMD A6-3500 APU
he is running xubuntu 14.04 w/ linux 3.16.7 w/ xfce 4.12 (open source drivers,
NOT fglrx/catalyst)
he is using DVI on a HP 2009M monitor
this command restores the display for him
DISPLAY=:0.0 xrandr --output DVI-0 --auto
he seems to have this issue wen the power manager turns the display off and the
monitor goes into standby

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1401784] Re: Disable DRI3

2015-03-10 Thread Alanwww1
Just for anyone who wants to turn DR3 back, here is the solution I
found:

- You need to have a DRI3 enabled xserver-xorg-video-intel driver. You
can get one from the xorg-edgers ppa. I just downloaded the deb file
that suits for my Ubuntu architecture from here: https://launchpad.net
/~xorg-
edgers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+packages?field.name_filter=field.status_filter=publishedfield.series_filter=vivid

After that just do
sudo dpkg -i ./name_of_the_debfile

- xorg configuration needs adjustments. Just do
sudo vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf

and insert:

Section Module
Loaddri3
EndSection

Section Device
  Identifier Intel
  Option DRI 3
EndSection

Now everything runs much smoother, without a sign of tearing.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1382462] Re: 10de:0dfa Desktop/windows painted incorrectly in dual monitor configuration

2015-03-10 Thread Francisco Gouveia
After days lost with replacing NVidia drivers and manually editing
xorg.conf file, I finally found this!

Rockwalrus (rockwalrus) solution works!

On CompizConfig Settings Manager, go to General Options, then Display
Settings and do the following:

- Uncheck Deteck Outputs
- In the Outputs array, set the resolutions of each of your screens. The
numbers after the resolution 1920x1080+0+0 are the offset. It's important to
add this offset according to your needs. I have two full HD screens, so I added
the following configuration:
1920x1080+0+0
1920x1080+1920+0

The second output has an offset of 1920, because it is on the right side
of the first output, which has a width of 1920.

I was hopeless already, what a relief!

It is worth to mention that, with the noveau drivers that come with

Public bug reported:

After installing ubuntu14.04.1 onto a separate drive in my home built
tower which I already had windows 8.1 pro install on another drive.
Before the installation of ubuntu the windows 8.1 was working properly.

This is not to say or imply that ubuntu is at fault in this process but
instead, my lack of complete understanding of what was involved in the
process. Subsequently, I've read lots of tutorials and question/answers
on Ubuntu One. The most important of which I read only this morning at 3
AM. It said simply that you can't simply re-install ubuntu on an drive
one problems have been encountered. At this point I'm using the drive
that I originally installed the ubuntu onto with ubuntu installed and
running somewhat errantly. To the point.

At first I could still boot into windows 8.1, but there were problems
with booting ubuntu. The boot menu then began to display with the
windows bios boot option missing. However, I could still enter into the
bios and select windows from there by selecting its drive. After trying
to figure out what happened to the windows option then, I was no longer
able to choose windows from the bios boot. I was at least able to boot
into ubuntu with great difficulty. As it began to boot there were lots
of fails and quit items displayed on the screen.

Things have gone from bad to worse, as I attempted to fix the problem.
Of course, I assumed the windows was still there on the original drive.
I tried deleting the ubuntu OS and re-installing it and then things
really went to hell in a hand basket. I am now at the point where, I've
been able to re-install ubuntu, but can see the windows 8.1 on either of
the other drives that I have installing in the tower.

I've used various of the linux sites to seek ways to recover from this
disaster, but have not achieve good results. The xorg information that
was sent from the latest boot is beyond my level of knowledge at this
point. I would appreciate it very much if someone could walk me through
the process of recovery. One of the errors messages Found GPt, add
bios-boot partition. Another was Comreset failed error-16. These
among many.

Please excuse, my lack of detail in this matter I've grasping for straws
believing that I could retrieve the system on my own. Given enough time
I ultimately could, but at this point I'm putting up the white flag.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1424491] Re: apt-get fails to install fglrx or fglrx-updates in 14.04.2 and 12.04.5

2015-03-10 Thread John Bridgman
Agreed, the HW enablement stack is a big help if you want to use the
open drivers, but can work against you if using fglrx.

14.04.2 and 12.04.5

14.04.1, 12.04.4, 14.10 and 15.04 (development) all work. You could use
14.04(.2) or 12.04(.5) until this is sorted out and then upgrade.

Just don't install the Hardware Enablement Stack for now.

It's not skin off of anyone's nose if you decide to go back to Windows.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1316090] Re: Unable to drop/ place files and links on second screen in dual screen set up

2015-03-10 Thread Goth Queen
Hi Christopher,

OK, will do as soon as I got some time to spare. Don't worry, it won't
be weeks but give me a day or so. One question before I start though:
can I check this as running it as a Live CD you think?

All the 3 boxes that are showing the reset/ move all icons to complete
left upon reboot bug (2 Xubuntu 14.04.2 amd64, and one i386 notebook)
are production machines and as you can understand I don't want to
disrupt their daily use too much. Only one has a dual screen set up and
that one has the can only place icons on one screen behaviour, but all
show the icon placement reset bug.

So can you hold my hand a bit and give me pointers so I can give you exactly
what you're looking for? I saved your message about apport and xdiagnose so no
need resending that; consider it done. Before I start, can you please tell me:
--- whether I can run the daily builds as LiveCD to check if they show the same
behaviour?
--- Do you want me to do apport/ xdiagnose for the installs showing the bugs
(this is what I expect) or the new daily builds?
--- If the daily builds also show the same behaviour, you also want the
apport/xdiagnose from those ones, right?

While typing this I already grabbed the Xubuntu Trusty daily build iso's
for both amd64 and i386 (18FEB build) so am ready to go if the Live CD
option is OK for you. If not, than it will take me a bit more time, but
can do; will hook up an additional HD and will put a new install (incl.
grub) on that additional HD leaving our production installs untouched.

Thanks again for your help!

Natalia

 Title:
Unable to drop/ place files and links on second screen in dual screen
   set up

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
   Incomplete

 Bug description:
After updating from Xubuntu 13.10 (amd64) to Xubuntu 14.04 LTS (amd64)
I have encountered a bug with my dual screen set up.

Running the XOrg screen driver (xserver-xorg-video-nouveau), it is
possible to place/ drag and drop files and links on my left screen
desktop. This is also the desktop that contains the system icons (e.g.
   removable drives, rubbish bin).

However, I I try to drag and drop a file or link on the right screen
desktop, it will not stick and fly back to its original location
on the left screen. Additionally, I noticed that, when dragging the
file over the troubled desktop, the placement squares don't show up.
They do on the functioning left screen.

   Although I have a NVIDIA Corporation GK107 [GeForce GTX 650] Geforce I
do run the XOrg driver since it gives me the best results with the
software I'm using frequently. However, when I tested this during my
initial install of Trusty, I noticed that I did not encounter this bug
with the proprietary NVidia 304.117 driver (331.38 did not work for me
at all). Running the NVidia 304.117 driver, it was possible to drag
and drop/ place files and links on both screen desktops. Also the
placement squares appeared on both screens when a file was dragged
   over it.

After returning to the XOrg driver, the problem reoccurred, and
placement on the right screen was again not possible.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1278223] Re: Mouse Flickering after adding 3rd Monitor

2015-03-10 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Andrew Speer, it would help immensely if you filed a new report via a terminal:
ubuntu-bug xorg

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes
button for attaching additional debugging information.

Also, please feel free to subscribe me to it.

eezacque, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to
help make Ubuntu better. However, the mainline kernel is not a software

this the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular bug.
Please report this bug to the provider of the software package. Thanks!
