2015-04-01 Thread Adam Smith
The last working versions for me were xserver-xorg-
core_1.16.2.901-1ubuntu4 and xserver-xorg-video-radeon_7.5.0-1ubuntu1

1.17 introduced the problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1415958] Re: Laptop + external display does not suspend on lid close

2015-04-01 Thread Martin Pitt
For the record, systemd actually checks for docked/undocked events, so
in a VT you should not actually get this behaviour. Only under Unity,
because unity-settings-daemon doesn't seem to check for dock events in
particular but just checks the connected monitors. Can you confirm this?

** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) = unity-settings-daemon (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c

2015-04-01 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
@Raphael: Of course we want a consistent behavior in all applications.

Since you mention pt_PT, it should be noted that the commit I just made
affects pt_BR only. Possibly there is a reason to do the same for pt_PT,
but I think it needs to be discussed first. Added a libX11 task to
remember it.

On 2015-04-01 02:47, Raphael das Neves Calvo wrote:
Previous versions and flavors don't need to be fixed, IMHO. Focus on
the next release because we already have workarounds for the previous

That makes sense for existing users, but wouldn't a better configuration
be preferable for new users who install e.g. 14.04?

Yes, the downgrade fixes the signal 11 errors. I figured out that I have
a lot of signal 11 error messages with systemd. With Upstart I have only
4 signal 11 errors:

[9.371697] lightdm-gtk-gre[2731]: unhandled signal 11 at nip

With systemd, X11 starts again and again with a white screen. With
Upstart I have a black screen with a blink cursor.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1414930] Re: [Lenovo ThinkPad 2015 models] Buttons of Synaptics trackpad doesn't work

2015-04-01 Thread Timo Aaltonen
if you have a hybrid machine using nvidia, you'd need headers too for
the nvidia dkms build.. there should be no other reason for the breakage
though

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1427221] Re: i915, broadwell, cannot connect external monitor through Display Port

2015-04-01 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Vladimír Kriška, the issue you are reporting is an upstream one. Could
you please report this problem to the appropriate mailing list (intel-
gfx, not bugzilla) by following the instructions verbatim at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/kernel ?

Please provide a direct URL to your e-mail to the mailing list once you
have made it so that it may be tracked via http://vger.kernel.org/vger-
lists.html . It can take a day for the new e-mail to show up in the
respective archive.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1439191] [NEW] [vivid regression] X.org fails to start on i386 cirrus

2015-04-01 Thread Martin Pitt
Public bug reported:

This was spotted by systemd's tests (which involve lightdm) starting to
fail. Cirrus cards (as provided by QEMU) still worked fine until at
least 2015-03-11 (https://jenkins.qa.ubuntu.com/job/vivid-adt-
systemd/119/), but started to fail now.

Start a current i386 vivid image in QEMU with -vga cirrus (which is the
default with trusty's QEMU, which is how we noticed), install lightdm,
then X.org will fail with

Fatal server error:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314787] Re: Memory leak

2015-04-01 Thread clickwir
FWIW, I have Kubuntu 14.10 with an AMD 5770 video card. If i use the
fglrx or fglrx-updates drivers, reboot, within 6 hours my 8GB RAM is
used up and swap is thrashing.

If i switch back to the xserver-xorg-video-ati driver, reboot, then apt-
get --purge autoremove, then reboot again... memory use is fine. I've
been on for about 6 hours now and use is just under 1GB according to
ksysguard.

Of course now I cannot play Steam games like TeamFortress 2, which works
great if I'm using the fglrx-updates driver. But it's a real pain using
that driver and having to reboot every 4 hours.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314787] Re: Memory leak

2015-04-01 Thread GVS
Backup using Clonezilla (recommended).

STEP ONE: Remove proprietary AMD / ATI drivers.

STEP TWO:

What kernel are you using? Type in terminal:

uname -r

If you are not using this kernel (3.14.37) download it here as I know it
works very well:

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.14.37-utopic/

You will need all three of the following packages (if your system is 64
bit; if 32 bit, download the corresponding i386 packages):

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.14.37-utopic/linux-
headers-3.14.37-031437-generic_3.14.37-031437.201503261136_amd64.deb

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.14.37-utopic/linux-
headers-3.14.37-031437_3.14.37-031437.201503261136_all.deb

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.14.37-utopic/linux-
image-3.14.37-031437-generic_3.14.37-031437.201503261136_amd64.deb

KERNEL INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS (note, do this from a terminal in the folder
where the above kernel debs are stored):

INSTALL KERNELS:

sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-3.14.37-*.deb linux-image-3.14.37-*.deb

Reboot your system.

STEP THREE:

Do not use the drivers installed via the Additional Drivers app. Make
sure you are using these drivers for your AMD / ATI card:

http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/amd-catalyst-omega-14.12-linux-run-
installers.zip

Here are the install instructions for the above drivers. Make sure you
are patient as the build and install procedures take a fair amount of time:

#prerequisite packages#
sudo apt-get install build-essential cdbs dh-make dkms
sudo apt-get install execstack dh-modaliases fakeroot libqtgui4

# If you are 64 bit, install these too
sudo apt-get install ia32-libs ia32-libs-multiarch:i386
sudo apt-get install lib32gcc1 libc6-i386

Correct dependency issues with:
apt-get install -f

# Create and install deb packages for trusty after unzipping the AMD
driver package:

sudo sh ./insert_amd_driver+package_name_here.run --buildpkg
Ubuntu/trusty

sudo dpkg -i fglrx*.deb

# Enable new settings (make sure you do this before rebooting).
sudo aticonfig --initial -f

# Reboot your PC

Your problem should now be solved.

It is recommended you keep the install packages for both the video
drivers and the kernel. Keep the instructions as well as you will
repeat the process with new drivers etc..

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 518056] Re: cedilla appears as accented c (ć instead of ç) when typing 'c

2015-04-01 Thread Leandro
Concerning the pt_PT: The portuguese from Portugal, although it has its
differences relative to brazilian
portuguese, has the same accents and it also requires the cedilla the same way,
so I suspected that they
had the same problem. I checked, then, the existence of the same tipe of claim
in forums from Portugal,
using Google

Indeed, we can find exactly the same problem for them. Although, as Portugal
has 5% the population of Brazil,
the number of posts is much smaller.

Therefore, I think that the fix for this problem should be applied to pt_PT
too. And, if there is any other
variation of portuguese (I am not sure if there is one for Angola, Moçambique,
etc.), they all sould be
fixed.

Leandro.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1439325] [NEW] Touch device ignores external monitor in Lenovo thinkpad X230 tablet

2015-04-01 Thread Rüdiger Kupper
Public bug reported:

WHAT HAPPENS:
When I connect an external monitor to the VGA port of the Lenovo X230 tablet,
and locate the second (external) screen to be left of the internal screen, all
mouse events generated by the touch device appear displaced to the left. The
mouse cursor is always left of my finger by the width of the external screen.

WHAT I EXPECT:
The mouse cursor is always below my finger, regardless of any external monitor
connected and where the second screen is located.

DIAGNOSIS:
Obviously, the touch device reports mouse events relative to the upper left of
the internal screen, ignoring the external screen on the left.
The second absolute input device of the X230 tablet (stylus) is NOT AFFECTED by
this bug. The mouse cursor is always below the tip of the stylus, regardless of
external screen.
