[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1444442] [NEW] External screen turns grey or green after some random time.
Public bug reported: As in the title the external screen attached to my laptop through Displayport suddenly turns grey and I have to unplug/replug it in order to get the environment to appear again. This bug started appearing after installing the latest updates (2015-04-14) that included linux-headers-3.13.0-49-generic:amd64. I have in the past installed the Intel Linux Graphics drivers which apparently are now causing some problems with 14.04 so the problem could also be caused by that. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1428884] Re: Xorg crash
I confirm the bug. I'm using Lubuntu x86_64. I upgraded it from 14.10 to the current prerelease 15.04 and I have that bug too. My system is a laptop on dock (Lenovo T440p), the dock is connected to a monitor. The bug is only seen if the laptop is docked. The easiest way to reproduce the bug is to log out. ** Summary changed: - Xorg crash + White screen on boot or logout, goes away on mouse click -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1428884 Title: White screen on boot or logout, goes away on mouse click To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1428884/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal: sudo apt-get clean Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a memory test. Thanks in advance! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1409166] Re: Popup dialog could not set the configuration for CRTC 65 steals keyboard, hinders login in 3-monitor configuration
** Description changed: Every time I boot, while I'm trying to enter my password in the initial - login screen (from Unity?), a dialog box pops up saying The selected - configuration for displays could not be applied. could not set the - configuration for CRTC 65. + login screen (from Unity?), a dialog box pops up saying Could not + switch the monitor configuration could not set the configuration for + CRTC 65. The dialog box also steals the keyboard focus, which is very confusing if for some reason you're entering the password on an external display while the normally unused laptop display is not visible. For example, three times in a row this morning I rebooted and tried unsuccessfully to log in. Since the dialog box is only displayed on the laptop display, which I never use when external monitors are available, I had no idea why my keyboard seemed broken. Background: My Lenovo Thinkpad X230 Tablet laptop has a VGA and a DVI connector. I have the VGA hooked up to a Viewsonic 1920x1080 monitor, positioned above the laptop display. I have a Samsung monitor to the right of the Viewsonic. Since my laptop seems to only support two displays (which also seems true in Windows), I normally disable and totally ignore my laptop display, and may have papers propped up in front of it etc. Note that when I initially configured the third display I saw the following highly confusing behavior. From Settings I tried to add a Samsung monitor to the right of the Viewsonic, via a DVI-to-HDMI passive connector, and got this dialog box when I hit Apply: The selected configuration for displays could not be applied could not set the configuration for CRTC 65 I clicked OK and got another dialog box: Failed to apply configuration: %s Can't add monitor: GDBus.Error:org.gtk.GDBus.UnmappedGError.Quark._gnome_2drr_2derror_2dquark.Code2: could not set the configuration for CRTC 65 It works if I disable my laptop monitor, so it looks like the problem is with adding a third display. I would think it would be a pretty common use case to use two nice external displays and disable the laptop display. Even when the hardware can't handle a third display, the error messages should not be so confusing, and the login process shouldn't result in the keyboard being mysteriously stolen by a dialog box on a display which may never be visible. This is on Trusty 64-bit, up-to-date with upgrades. This bug seems similar to bug 1304627, but it seemed cleanest to get all the right information reported via ubuntu-bug. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1424491] Re: apt-get fails to install fglrx or fglrx-updates in 14.04.2 and 12.04.5
EDIT: I wrote this before the Fix Released status (might be already obsolete) I finally got it working on Trusty (Ubuntu Studio 14.04.2 LTS, Xfce 4), but proposed fix did not work out of the box. I am posting this just in case someone, just because of plain old bad luck, runs into same problem as I did, this solution just might help, IDK. Let me go through what was happening: I enabled trusty-proposed, pinned the repo (I read the article actually), installed using apt-get (sudo apt-get install fglrx-updates/trusty-proposed) and did a reboot. Initially, it looked like it worked, Additional Drivers settings section indicated I was using fglrx-update proprietary driver, both Ubuntu Software Center and Synaptic indicated that correct (trusty- proposed) versions and dependencies were installed, so I thought all went good, until I tried to launch ATI Catalyst Center and got message about error while initializing amdcccle (No such file or directory). I purged all installed files, reverted to default community driver, did another reboot and repeated installation process again. Same results. Then I realized that I was getting error for running amdcccle and not amdcccle-updates as I thought it should. So here is what I did (by steps): 1. Open Synaptic 2. Search for fglrx 3. Find fglrx-updates, select it, go to Package - Force Version... , select trusty-proposed and hit Force Version; apply changes in synaptic 4. Select fglrx-updates again, right click mark for reinstallation; apply changes in synaptic 5. Find fglrx-amdcccle-updates, mark for installation it if it isn't installed, and/or mark for uninstallation fglrx-amdcccle if it is installed; apply changes 6. Select fglrx-amdcccle-updates and go trough the same steps as with fglrx-updates (i.e. forcing version and reinstallation) 7. Select fglrx-updates-core, and mark it for reinstallation (this one cannot be forced, so just reinstall); apply changes 8. Reboot / Shutdown your machine (don't forget to turn it on, duh) A NOTE: I am 100% sure there is a lot cleaner and more efficient way for accomplishing this using terminal command line or something else, but I hereby publicly announce that I am not Linux Master Chief or Guru or anything nearby, mere intermediary, average user here. This solution is merely a crude result of hours of trial-and-error nail-biting-hair- pulling process, so please, if someone can simplify and polish this garbage workaround of mine, please do! :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1424491 Title: apt-get fails to install fglrx or fglrx-updates in 14.04.2 and 12.04.5 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/fglrx/+bug/1424491/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1409166] Re: Popup dialog could not set the configuration for CRTC 65 steals keyboard, hinders login in 3-monitor configuration
Neal McBurnett, as per http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops- and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-tablet-laptops/thinkpad-x230-tablet an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (2.61). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status Confirmed. Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags removed: bios-outdated-2.60 ** Tags added: bios-outdated-2.61 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1409166 Title: Popup dialog could not set the configuration for CRTC 65 steals keyboard, hinders login in 3-monitor configuration To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1409166/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
