[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1462145] Re: race condition during layout change
Vladimir Gorelov, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal: cd /var/crash sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get -y upgrade sudo service apport start force_start=1 If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If that fails, one may open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. By default, this sends the crash to the Ubuntu Error Tracker infrastructure, which is different than Launchpad. For more on this, please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ErrorTracker . However, if after doing this you would still like to have a crash report posted to Launchpad, for example to ease triage and add others to your report, one would need to open the following file via a command line: sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf and comment out the line: 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], by changing it to: # 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via: ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will deal with this issue more efficiently. Also, please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and reopen it. Thank you for your understanding. apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected reproducible single-occurrence ubuntu ** Description changed: Ubuntu-Mate 15.10 development version updated as of 4-Jun 2300 UTC . Video driver is nouveau Problem began upon upgrading of xserver-xorg-core_1.17.1-0ubuntu3_amd64 and xserver-xorg-common_1.17.1-0ubuntu3_amd64xorg to xserver-xorg-core_1.17.1-0ubuntu4_amd64 and xserver-xorg-common_1.17.1-0ubuntu4_amd64xorg and was resolved by reverting to the pre-upgrade packages. Apparently random text characters, or parts thereof, would be missing in various applications including the Lightdm greeter, Firefox, Pidgin, Mate-terminal, the Mate panel clock, Unetbootin, and the Mate menu. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1272338] Re: Xorg memory leak on trusty
I have this bug with all distros I have installed, all based on ubuntu 14.04 (standard ubuntu, ubuntu with gnome, kubuntu, xubuntu and linux mint with cinnamon). I use the nvidia driver and I have noticed that all these distros have the same behaviour: xorg and the wm process are both hungry of memory. The only exception is xfce that seems to be less affected (xorg process leaks memory also with xfce, only the wm process is not eating too much ram). I have also noticed that other distros, not ubuntu based, have similar issues and with different graphic drivers. I suspect that the problem is relevant to some generic linux graphic library and not to a specific graphic driver. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1272338 Title: Xorg memory leak on trusty To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-driver/+bug/1272338/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a regular (non-security) bug. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1462515] [NEW] fglrx ldconfig priority should be above mesa's
Public bug reported: I'm using Ubuntu 14.10 on x64 with the latest updates. The Factor language dynamically loads ``libGL.so`` for its graphical environment. On machines with a Radeon card and the ``fglrx-updates`` package, the preferred ``libGL.so`` path is ``/usr/lib/fglrx/libGL.so``. However, if ``libgl1-mesa-dev`` is installed, there's another ``libGL.so`` in ``/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGL.so``. Now, I would like to remove `libgl1-mesa-dev`, except that it is required for `libgtkglext1-dev` which contains the function `gtk_gl_init()`, which is required for the graphical environment for Factor. The crux of the issue is that ``/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu`` has higher priority than ``/usr/lib/fglrx``, so programs that load ``libGL.so`` find the mesa version first: ``` erg@erglinux:~$ ldconfig -v | grep ^/ /sbin/ldconfig.real: Path `/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu' given more than once /sbin/ldconfig.real: Path `/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu' given more than once /sbin/ldconfig.real: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ld-2.19.so is the dynamic linker, ignoring /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libfakeroot: /usr/local/lib: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu: /sbin/ldconfig.real: /lib32/ld-2.19.so is the dynamic linker, ignoring /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa-egl: /usr/lib/fglrx: /usr/lib32/fglrx: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mir/client8driver/mesa: /lib32: /usr/lib32: /lib: /usr/lib: ``` Would there be anything wrong with moving the ``/usr/lib/fglrx`` entries above ``/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu:``? This appears to be an issue with nvidia's binary drivers as well, since ``/usr/lib/nvidia`` gets searched after ``/usr/x86_64-linux-gnu``. Finally, if ``libgl1-mesa-dev`` wasn't required for ``libgtkglext1-dev``, that would also solve my problem because I wouldn't have the mesa drivers installed at all. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1462515] Re: fglrx ldconfig priority should be above mesa's
Ok, somehow ``ldconfig -v`` searches and presumably finds the mesa driver first, but ``ldconfig -p`` lists fglrx before mesa. Thus, there is no problem here (except my understanding of why -v and -p orders are not consistent). I still think it's ugly that ``libgtkglext1-dev`` depends on ``libgl1 -mesa-dev``.
