[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1462109] Re: package fglrx 2:14.501-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: il sottoprocesso nuovo script pre-installation ha restituito lo stato di errore 1

2015-06-05 Thread Luigi R.
I cleaned everything up:

sudo sh /usr/share/ati/fglrx-uninstall.sh
sudo apt-get remove --purge fglrx fglrx-core fglrx-amdcccle fglrx-dev
sudo apt-get remove --purge xserver-xorg-video-ati xserver-xorg-video-radeon
sudo apt-get remove --purge xserver-xorg-video-intel
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-ati
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel
sudo update-alternatives --remove-all x86_64-linux-gnu_gl_conf
sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgl1-mesa-glx libgl1-mesa-dri
xserver-xorg-core
sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup
sudo rm -rf /etc/ati

rebooted and then I have tried to install the fglrx-updates and it
worked. This evening I will redo the test for the fglrx.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1462145] Re: race condition during layout change

2015-06-05 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Vladimir Gorelov, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
However, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have
apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the
automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal:
cd /var/crash  sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update  sudo apt-get -y upgrade
sudo service apport start force_start=1

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your
/var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit.

If that fails, one may open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where
_my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get
an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to
file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

By default, this sends the crash to the Ubuntu Error Tracker
infrastructure, which is different than Launchpad. For more on this,
please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ErrorTracker .

However, if after doing this you would still like to have a crash report posted
to Launchpad, for example to ease triage and add others to your report, one
would need to open the following file via a command line:
sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf

and comment out the line:
'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

by changing it to:
# 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'],

Save, close, and try to file the crash report again via:
ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will deal
with this issue more efficiently.

Also, please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and
reopen it.

Thank you for your understanding.

2015-06-05 Thread nLinked
Same problem with Lenovo Yoga 3 11. Ubuntu 15.04, even with latest Linux
4 kernal. Problems experienced:

- Same screen glitch as http://youtu.be/MqPi5dURZ8s
- Closing lid and opening again can cause current screen to freeze. Mouse
pointer moves but can't click anything.
- If connected to external monitor via HDMI, pressing the F10 key (display
switcher) to change mode can cause same screen freeze as above.

2015-06-05 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Harald W Griesshammer, as per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19
/product-support/product/optiplex-9020-desktop/drivers an update to your
computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A12). If you update to
this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it
change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version  sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status New.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1462147] Re: Random text characters partially or completely missing

2015-06-05 Thread Steven Usdansky
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected reproducible single-occurrence ubuntu

** Description changed:

  Ubuntu-Mate 15.10 development version updated as of 4-Jun 2300 UTC .
  Video driver is nouveau

  Problem began upon upgrading of

 xserver-xorg-core_1.17.1-0ubuntu3_amd64 and
 xserver-xorg-common_1.17.1-0ubuntu3_amd64xorg
  to
 xserver-xorg-core_1.17.1-0ubuntu4_amd64 and
 xserver-xorg-common_1.17.1-0ubuntu4_amd64xorg

  and was resolved by reverting to the pre-upgrade packages. Apparently random
text characters, or parts thereof, would be missing in various applications
including the Lightdm greeter, Firefox, Pidgin, Mate-terminal, the Mate panel
clock, Unetbootin, and the Mate menu. This occurs both at my monitor's native
resolution (1680x1050) and at 1600x1200.
  Other possibly useful info:

  libdrm-nouveau2:amd64 2.4.60-3amd64
  xserver-xorg-video-nouveau  1:1.0.11-1ubuntu2build1amd64

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1458663] Re: Characters disappear and graphic major problems

2015-06-05 Thread Nicola Spampinato
Hi,
I updated the bios.
The problem still remains, but the occurence time has reduced.

Now I have the problem only once a day.

If can be usefull, please consider that the problem does not appear
inside external applications windows. For example, VirtualBox sessions
are not affected by the issue.

Here is the output of the command sudo dmidecode -s bios-version
sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1272338] Re: Xorg memory leak on trusty

2015-06-05 Thread solax
I have this bug with all distros I have installed, all based on ubuntu 14.04
(standard ubuntu, ubuntu with gnome, kubuntu, xubuntu and linux mint with
cinnamon).
I use the nvidia driver and I have noticed that all these distros have the same
behaviour: xorg and the wm process are both hungry of memory. The only
exception is xfce that seems to be less affected (xorg process leaks memory
also with xfce, only the wm process is not eating too much ram).

I have also noticed that other distros, not ubuntu based, have similar
issues and with different graphic drivers. I suspect that the problem is
relevant to some generic linux graphic library and not to a specific
graphic driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1461569] Re: typing speed influences characte displayed

2015-06-05 Thread Harald W Griesshammer
Followed your procedure, updating BIOS:

 sudo dmidecode -s bios-version  sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
A12
05/06/2015

So BIOS update successful.

no change in bug: b vs β at different typing speeds.

Thank you for taking this on; I do understand tha there are much more
urgent bugs...

I can confirm this bug on ubuntu 14.04. In my case I was playing a game
in wine - Littlewitch Romanesque - and after 3-5 hours Xorg process was
eating 4 GB RAM (normally it uses 200-400 mb). I use proprietary driver
from fglrx-updates.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1462398] Re: wily boot is completely frozen

2015-06-05 Thread Barry Warsaw
After bisecting the dist-upgrade, apt-mark holding various packages
until I found the culprit.

It's either xserver-common, xserver-xorg-core, or xvfb (probably not the
latter).

If I unhold the first two and dist-upgrade, I see the freeze.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1460419] Re: Display does not work fot the decrease screen brightness

2015-06-05 Thread Tyler Hicks
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1462515] [NEW] fglrx ldconfig priority should be above mesa's

2015-06-05 Thread Doug Coleman
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 14.10 on x64 with the latest updates.

The Factor language dynamically loads ``libGL.so`` for its graphical
environment. On machines with a Radeon card and the ``fglrx-updates``
package, the preferred ``libGL.so`` path is ``/usr/lib/fglrx/libGL.so``.

However, if ``libgl1-mesa-dev`` is installed, there's another
``libGL.so`` in ``/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGL.so``.

Now, I would like to remove `libgl1-mesa-dev`, except that it is
required for `libgtkglext1-dev` which contains the function
`gtk_gl_init()`, which is required for the graphical environment for
Factor.

The crux of the issue is that ``/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu`` has higher priority
than ``/usr/lib/fglrx``, so programs that load ``libGL.so`` find the mesa
version first:

```
erg@erglinux:~$ ldconfig -v | grep ^/
/sbin/ldconfig.real: Path `/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu' given more than once
/sbin/ldconfig.real: Path `/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu' given more than once
/sbin/ldconfig.real: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ld-2.19.so is the dynamic linker,
ignoring
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libfakeroot:
/usr/local/lib:
/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu:
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu:
/sbin/ldconfig.real: /lib32/ld-2.19.so is the dynamic linker, ignoring
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa-egl:
/usr/lib/fglrx:
/usr/lib32/fglrx:
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mir/client8driver/mesa:
/lib32:
/usr/lib32:
/lib:
/usr/lib:
```

Would there be anything wrong with moving the ``/usr/lib/fglrx`` entries above
``/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu:``?

This appears to be an issue with nvidia's binary drivers as well, since
``/usr/lib/nvidia`` gets searched after ``/usr/x86_64-linux-gnu``.

Finally, if ``libgl1-mesa-dev`` wasn't required for
``libgtkglext1-dev``, that would also solve my problem because I
wouldn't have the mesa drivers installed at all.

Thanks,
Doug

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1462515] Re: fglrx ldconfig priority should be above mesa's

2015-06-05 Thread Doug Coleman
Ok, somehow ``ldconfig -v`` searches and presumably finds the mesa
driver first, but ``ldconfig -p`` lists fglrx before mesa. Thus, there
is no problem here (except my understanding of why -v and -p orders are
not consistent).

I still think it's ugly that ``libgtkglext1-dev`` depends on ``libgl1
-mesa-dev``. Is this necessary?
