[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1509075] Re: [xmir] Dialogs/fonts are scaled way too big

2015-10-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Reproduced. The issue appears to be:

(gimp:20084): Gimp-Widgets-WARNING **: GDK returned bogus values for the screen
resolution, using 96 dpi instead.
(gimp:20084): Gimp-Widgets-WARNING **: GDK returned bogus values for the screen
resolution, using 96 dpi instead.

which sounds wrong for two reasons:
  1. Even after working around #6, xrandr reports valid dimensions (61mm x
102mm)
  2. If gimp/GDK really is falling back to 96 dpi then fonts would not appear
large at all. They would appear normal (too small).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1246683] Re: Middle button does not work for scrolling

2015-10-29 Thread Ibrahim Awwal
For anyone coming across this, xserver-xorg-input-libinput isn't
installed by default in 15.10, you have to actually install it. But
yeah, it works perfectly after installing it. Took me a bit to figure
out what actually needed to be done, I guess I thought it was installed
by default.

On second thoughts, Mir's lack of centralised window management is a
much bigger problem than just this bug. So should be dealt with

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1511615] [NEW] xorg crashes on Ubuntu 15.10 with Intel graphics

2015-10-29 Thread aldebx
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1509846 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1509846

Public bug reported:

Symptom: xorg crashes on windows creation

How to reproduce: No 100% reproducibility, however intensively using
2D/3D acceleration triggers the bug (e.g. by opening several new windows
and/or menus in a Unity desktop environment)

Affected hardware: Intel HD Graphics 4400/5000 etc
Affected software:
- kernel Linux 4.2.0-16-generic #19-Ubuntu SMP x86_64
- also affected is kernel Linux 4.2.5-040205-generic x86_64
- Ubuntu 15.10 with Unity (because of compiz 2D/3D acceleration)
- any other software using direct rendering (e.g. VLC)

Workaround:
- Disable window animations in Compiz reduces the frequency of the crashes.
Use compizconfig-settings-manager for this tweak (sudo apt-get install
compizconfig-settings-manager)
- Use XFCE or LXDE also reduces the frequency of crashes given that these
desktop environments are 2D only

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1509846] Re: lightdm crashes on window open in Ubuntu 15.10 intel

2015-10-29 Thread aldebx
** Description changed:

Symptom: xorg crashes on windows creation

How to reproduce: No 100% reproducibility, however intensively using
2D/3D acceleration triggers the bug (e.g. by opening several new windows
and/or menus in a Unity desktop environment)

Affected hardware: Intel HD Graphics 4400/5000 etc
- Affected software:
+ Affected software:
  - kernel 4.2.0-16-generic #19-Ubuntu SMP Thu Oct 8 15:35:06 UTC 2015 x86_64
  - Ubuntu 15.10 with Unity (because of compiz 2D/3D acceleration)
  - any other software using direct rendering (e.g. VLC)

- Workaround:
+ Workaround:
  - Disable window animations in Compiz reduces the frequency of the crashes.
Use compizconfig-settings-manager for this tweak (sudo apt-get install
compizconfig-settings-manager)
-
- Solution:
- - upgrade kernel (which includes newer Intel graphic drivers)
- Kernel 4.2.5-040205-generic #201510270124 SMP Tue Oct 27 01:25:49 UTC 2015
seems not to trigger this issue, more testing ahead.

  [original description below]

I get crashes, when I open a new window in an already started
application. It happens irregularely, but I can force the crash if I
open several new message windows in thunderbird. But it also happens in
other applilcations, for example a new terminal window.

This is the output during the crash in /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Fixed the above error messages yesterday but they are benign and not
related to this bug.

I did however discover the same black flashing happens in the Unity
'system-settings' app when run through Xmir.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1511604] [NEW] Xmir -rootless: Window resize constraints not implemented

2015-10-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Public bug reported:

Xmir -rootless: Window resize constraints not implemented yet.

E.g. Dialogs generally prevent you from resizing them, or resizing them
too small. And terminal windows resize with granularity of a character
cell.

The interface for this exists in Mir now I think. Just needs to be wired
up to the X window properties.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1509846] Re: lightdm crashes on window open in Ubuntu 15.10 intel

2015-10-29 Thread aldebx
@rubo77, after identifying the problem to be likely with the Intel
graphic driver, I've been testing Kernel 4.2.5-040205-generic
#201510270124 SMP Tue Oct 27 01:25:49 UTC 2015 x86_64 for the past 6
hours, and it seems not to trigger any crash despite using 2D/3D graphic
acceleration in Unity/Compiz and other applications.

Kernel versions can be downloaded from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/
Please join me in testing if this bug has been fixed upstream in kernel version
4.2.5-040205-generic and up.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1509846] Re: lightdm crashes on window open in Ubuntu 15.10 intel

2015-10-29 Thread aldebx
** Description changed:

- On Ubuntu 15.10 I get crashes, when I open a new window in an already
- started application. It happens irregularely, but I can force the crash
- if I open several new message windows in thunderbird. But it also
- happens in other applilcations, for example a new terminal window.
+ Symptom: xorg crashes on windows creation
+
+ How to reproduce: No 100% reproducibility, however intensively using
+ 2D/3D acceleration triggers the bug (e.g. by opening several new windows
+ and/or menus in a Unity desktop environment)
+
+ Affected hardware: Intel HD Graphics 4400/5000 etc
+ Affected software:
+ - kernel 4.2.0-16-generic #19-Ubuntu SMP Thu Oct 8 15:35:06 UTC 2015 x86_64
+ - Ubuntu 15.10 with Unity (because of compiz 2D/3D acceleration)
+ - any other software using direct rendering (e.g. VLC)
+
+ Workaround:
+ - Disable window animations in Compiz reduces the frequency of the crashes.
+ Use compizconfig-settings-manager for this tweak (sudo apt-get install
compizconfig-settings-manager)
+
+ Solution:
+ - upgrade kernel (which includes newer Intel graphic drivers)
+ Kernel 4.2.5-040205-generic #201510270124 SMP Tue Oct 27 01:25:49 UTC 2015
seems not to trigger this issue, more testing ahead.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1511512] Re: Xorg crashes when opening new windows with Intel video card

2015-10-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Phil Boutros, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better.

As per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-
support/product/optiplex-790/drivers/advanced an update to your
computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A18). If you update to
this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it
address the issue?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

Also, you don't have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the
information above is provided, then please mark this report Status
Confirmed. Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1493888] Re: FGLRX incompatible with gcc 5

2015-10-29 Thread Jan Zörner
Current version on >>wily-proposed<< works for me too (with Radeon R9
270X).

However, there are some graphics/font glitches in basically every GNOME
shell menu (see attachment) which shouldn't be related to the bug of
this thread, but to the fglrx driver in general.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1507346] Re: Back light off after sleep mode

2015-10-29 Thread wooglin280
This seems like the same problem I am having. If I allow the display to
go to sleep, I cannot get it to come back on. I can change to terminal
with Ctrl+Alt+F1 and restart lightdm or just reboot. In the meantime,
until this bug is resolved, I have disabled turning the display off to
save power.

The display does still go to sleep at the login screen, however, it will
come back on from there.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1507255] Re: Garbled graphics in Wily with Intel GMA4500 chip

2015-10-29 Thread jerrylamos
How do I tell if this Lenovo M58p has the Intel GMA4500 chip?
Wily gives me fits with hashing. Can't read text even.
Xenial slightly better. Text sent out by Ubuntu is totally hashed. Text I
type in on the terminal window is readable. Wallpaper and images are hashed
unintelligible.

Current workaround, this is Xenial with 3.17.8031708 installed from Ubuntu
Kernels:

Weird, I guess it doesn't come out of runpm sometimes? You can
workaround this by booting with nouveau.runpm=0 but it will leave the
nvidia gpu on the whole time.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1511496] [NEW] Synaptics touchpad pastes when clicked in the top-right corner

2015-10-29 Thread Ethan Trewhitt
Public bug reported:

When I tap the Synaptics touchpad of my laptop, the contents of the
clipboard are pasted. It's exactly as if I typed "Ctrl-V" in the current
window. I see no way in the touchpad settings to disable this behavior,
so it seems like a bug.

Action taken: tap the touchpad in the top right of the touchpad
Expected result: the mouse is clicked at the current location
Erroneous result: the clipboard is pasted into the current application

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1502014] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT

2015-10-29 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1511429] Re: Monitor attached to integrated intel graphics not detected after installing fglrx

2015-10-29 Thread dolphy
Thanks Alberto.

I have a lot of graphics artifacts in KDE using the open source drivers,
so that is a less desirable option for me.

I just want to make sure I understand you accurately...please correct me
if I am wrong on any of this: you're saying that the best solution for
this under KDE would be to disable gpu-manager and manually configure
the xorg.conf file to create a second screen attached to the integrated
controller. This may be supported by KDE, but it is not a supported
configuration for Unity.

Because this is not a supported configuration for Ubuntu proper, what is
the best path for this bug? I don't know the etiquette, but I'd like to
keep it against the fact that Ubuntu/Unity *doesn't* support this
configuration, and to get support added. The end goal in my mind would
be for gpu-manager to create an xorg.conf file that utilizes the second
adapter.

If that's not appropriate, please let me know.

Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1511476] [NEW] Unstable unity session

2015-10-29 Thread JazZ
Public bug reported:

Hi,

My unity session crash randomly, when I am working on my computer, or
when nothing is done in my computer.

This occurs repeatedly since I have installed ubuntu 15.10.

This does not happen on my laptop. The main difference I noticed between
my computer and my laptop is that my laptop has an NVidia Graphic card
and my computer has an intel Core™ i5-2320 as CPU/GPU. So it has no
Graphic Card.

Here you will find my syslog file content, during the crash :

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1511429] Re: Monitor attached to integrated intel graphics not detected after installing fglrx

2015-10-29 Thread Alberto Milone
Unfortunately fglrx does not support RandR 1.4. The only solution, in
your case, would be to use multiple xscreens which I think Kubuntu
supports but Ubuntu doesn't (because of Compiz). Unfortunately we do not
support this use case. If you do decide to go down this path, you will
probably want to disable gpu-manager by passing "nogpumanager" on boot.

The other alternative is to use the open source drivers.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1511429] [NEW] Monitor attached to integrated intel graphics not detected after installing fglrx

2015-10-29 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

On a fresh install of Kubuntu 15.10, all three of my monitors were auto-
detected and usable. After installing the fixed version of fglrx (bug
#1493888), the two monitors attached to my AMD discrete graphics cards
are detected and usable, but the monitor attached to the internal intel
graphics controller is blank screen.

lspci seems to know that the graphics card is there, but xrandr does
not. Please see attached logs.

I haven't looked into adding support for Linux 4.3 to the driver, so the
package might fail to build (I haven't tested that yet).

@Luciano: it seems to me that you have a dual AMD system. I don't see
any signs of the problem mentioned in this bug report. Maybe it's a
different problem.

install also without patching new kernel like 4.3 or I need make some

Ok, another interesting data point. If I use '--rootless --flatten' and
remove Compiz from the equation, then scaling is fine, so it seems it's
specific to non-rootless on arm.
