[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1243642] Re: .Xmodmap not automatically loaded on start

2016-02-13 Thread HaraldK
Reading the bugzilla bug linked in #16, we are asked to not use gnome if
we want to be able to tweak one or the other key on our keyboard,
because they are not able to build a working UI on top of xmodmap. At
least this is what I read from it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1545245] Re: package firefox 39.0+build5-0ubuntu0.14.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: cannot copy extracted data for './usr/lib/firefox/libxul.so' to '/usr/lib/firefox/libxul.so.dp

2016-02-13 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1441570] [NEW] System becomes unresponsive during normal usage

2016-02-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The system becomes unresponsive (including stuttering audio, slow mouse
cursor, freezing) after an hour or so of usage (sometimes more and
sometimes less). Usage at the time was a web browser idling (observed
with both Chromium and Firefox) and a music player (Clementine) in the
background. There were no CPU intensive applications running at the
time.

I was able to capture cpu usage during an episode with the following command
(nice set to -20).:
'while true; do ps -eo pcpu,pid,user,args | sort -k 1 -nr | head -30 >>
logfile; echo -e "\n"`date` >> logfile; sync; sleep 1; done'
Attached is an excerpt from the generated log file.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1314871] Re: Graphics freeze, with applications continuing working properly

2016-02-13 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Daniel Qian, as per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-
support/product/vostro-3400/drivers an update to your computer's buggy
and outdated BIOS is available (A12). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible:
1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an
apport-collect):
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement
or not.
3) Please mark this report Status New. If it's not reproducible, please mark
this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

2016-02-13 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
kirk, thank you for taking the time to report this and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, this report didn't include enough
information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would
then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. The behavior you expected, and
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1542716] Re: tuchpad never working after 14.04 installation

2016-02-13 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
mauribera, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

As per http://support.ts.fujitsu.com/Download/ShowFiles.asp an update to
your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (1.12). If you
update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate
does it change anything?

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible:
1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an
apport-collect):
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement
or not.
3) Please mark this report Status New. If it's not reproducible, please mark
this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1542898] Re: Markus

2016-02-13 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Markus Zinke, thank you for taking the time to report this and helping
to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, this report didn't include enough
information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would
then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. The behavior you expected, and
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1247668] Re: NumLock turned off on layout switch

2016-02-13 Thread Jean Sand
I am running 14.04 LTS , using a Logitech K200 keyboard

numlockx has been added to
/usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/50-unity-greeter.conf
greeter-setup-script=/usr/bin/numlockx on

I added to /etc/profile, /etc/bash.bashrc, ~/.profile, ~/.bashrc, ...
/usr/bin/logger -i -t PRIVATE -- "~/.profile user `/usr/bin/numlockx status`"

Numlock is on at login
Numlock is on when executing /etc/profile
Numlock is on when executing ~/.profile
Numlock is on when executing ~/.bashrc
When GUI is available, numlock is off. I seems that somewhere after processing
login, numlock gets switch off.

Hi Christopher,

Thanks for your response and sorry it took so long to reply. I was able
to update my bios to the latest version (A10) but I am still
experiencing Xorg crashes.

Here is the additional information requested:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1540774] [NEW] Light Display Manager fails to load

2016-02-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I've got a Lubuntu 15 i686 installation with a VIA C7-D cpu. The system
was purchased specifically to test the processor. Its got a 8GB SSD and
2GB of RAM, so its a lower end device.

The machine appears to hang during boot. Some time around when text mode
is supposed to end and the window manager should begin, the machine
appears to freeze. I was able to install SSH through a recovery
terminal, so I can peek at things remotely.

It looks like Light Display Manager is failing:

$ sudo systemctl --failed

  UNITLOAD ACTIVE SUBDESCRIPTION
● lightdm.service loaded failed failed Light Display Manager

LOAD = Reflects whether the unit definition was properly loaded.
ACTIVE = The high-level unit activation state, i.e. generalization of SUB.
SUB= The low-level unit activation state, values depend on unit type.

1 loaded units listed. Pass --all to see loaded but inactive units, too.
To show all installed unit files use 'systemctl list-unit-files'.

It looks like the it could be related to the VIA P4M900 chipset:

$ dmesg | egrep "(vga|agp)"
