[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1610772] Re: [drm] stuck on render ring

2016-09-17 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Mikhail, the next step is to fully commit bisect from kernel 3.13 to 4.4
in order to identify the last good kernel commit, followed immediately
by the first bad one. This will allow for a more expedited analysis of
the root cause of your issue. Could you please do this following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection ?

Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit
bisecting.

Also, the kernel release names are irrelevant for the purposes of
bisecting.

It is most helpful that after the fix commit (not kernel version) has
been identified, you then mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1547599] Re: legacy nvidia drivers fail to work with latest kernel

2016-09-17 Thread Nick Barry
I was able to fix this problem on a MacBook Pro 4,1 with a GeForce 8600M GT by
following these instructions:
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2209602

In this case, installing the current version of Ubuntu (16.04.1) via USB
with a GUID partition table was not a problem.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1611191] Re: Xorg freeze

2016-09-17 Thread Yuan Song
Thanks for looking into this issue.
I updated bios.  I upgraded the bios.  It became better.   But problem still
exists. It does not happen frequently. It can recovery by itself after a couple
of minutes   I doubt it is related to bios.    It became better because I
changed the java heap size.  It is easy to reproduce when I have chrome running
at the same time.  gui freezes when the java program starts.  After the program
starts, the gui response is not fast.  The version of Java I am using is
jdk1.8.0_102.   If I run the same java program on 64 bits windows 7 on the same
machine with the same heap size setting, it runs a lot faster.

sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Yuan Song, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

As per http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/H170M%20Pro4/?cat=Download=BIOS
an update to your computer's buggy, insecure, and outdated BIOS is
available (2.20). When you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate how does this improve the
situation?

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

Also, you don't have to create a new report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible:
1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an
apport-collect):
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2) Please make a comment specifically advising on how this improves the
situation.
3) Please mark this report Status New.

If it's not reproducible, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1568604] Re: Mouse cursor lost when unlocking with Intel graphics

2016-09-17 Thread Luís Osório
Lenovo X230 Tablet
ElementaryOS 0.3.2 Freya (all updates up to sat 17 sept 2016)
running with TLP (http://linrunner.de/en/tlp/tlp.html)

Recently started having this issue too. When returning from lock screen:
On the lock screen the mouse cursor is visible and working. After successfull
password, the mouse still works but the cursor pointer is not visible.

Notes:
Recently I started to, ocasionally, connect to TV via display port (don't
know if it is related)

Workarounds that work for me:
  - shutdown and restart the computer - this is tedious and disruptive, but
works.
  - press fn+f7 (key for changing to external display. Since there is no
external display the screen just flickers once) - THIS IS EASY and fast,
basically, the reason for my comment here.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1434351] Re: X fonts and widgets disappear after suspend/resume cycle

2016-09-17 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Eugene Shkel, it will help immensely if you filed a new report with Ubuntu by
ensuring you have the package xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes
button for attaching additional debugging information running the following
from a terminal:
ubuntu-bug xorg

Also, please feel free to subscribe me to it.

For more on why this is helpful, please see
