[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1750937] Re: 4.4.0-116 Kernel update on 2/21 breaks Nvidia drivers (on 14.04 and 16.04) by an insufficient compiler!

2018-03-13 Thread Ross Campbell
Multiple Ubuntu 14.04 systems with newer compilers, and I don't really
want to remove them...

Can we get updated compilers in the ubuntu-toolchain-r/test ppa
... or optional kernels without 'retpoline'?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1753776] Re: Graphics corruption (or distortion?) in login animation to Xorg sessions

2018-03-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The pattern of corruption looks like a pixel format mixup or colour
channel overflow. So I would bet it's related to the 10-bit/8-bit colour
changes in Mesa and Mutter...

I can't reproduce it on my desktop (Haswell, 10-bit monitor).
I can reproduce it on two laptops (Kaby Lake, 8-bit panels).

Is the problem Ubuntu-specific? I've been wondering if our mesa
patch(es) in this area are still necessary (since mutter fixed their
side, didn't they?).

Sounds like the next step should be to tell the Xorg developers about
the bug. Please report it here:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1755532] Re: Desktop setting is not wroking properly

2018-03-13 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1642078] Re: Black screen at startup on Carrizo

2018-03-13 Thread victor gaspar
Hi Christopher,

1) This one was hard... I needed a magnifying glass to get the info:
HP Pavilion Notebook PC
ProdID: V7R89LA#ABM
Model 14-av005Ia

2) Update done using command:
   sudo apt-get install --install-recommends linux-generic-hwe-16.04
xserver-xorg-hwe-16.04
Same results, black screen. In fact, after the update, it never starts
correctly again :S

3) I tried with the four options. None worked.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1754401] Re: mounting /proc with hidepid causes: Fatal server error: (EE) xf86OpenConsole: Cannot open virtual console 1 (Permission denied)

2018-03-13 Thread Simon Déziel
Finally found what changed. I updated /etc/fstab to have /proc mounted
with hidepid=2,gid=sudo for added security. This works perfectly on
16.04 but totally breaks on 17.10.

To recap: mounting /proc with "nodev, noexec, nosuid" works but adding
"hidepid=2,gid=sudo" breaks.

After reboot the tablet shows up in my Wacom settings panel.
However, the stylus can only control the cursor on the main screen, while
calibration makes no sense.

All the required components should be in Bionic now. I am closing this

further problems with the driver.

P.S. disabling the discrete GPU (on systems with hybrid graphics) does
not work yet, but it will soon.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1755438] [NEW] Freeze on shutdown if computer was suspended after last startup

2018-03-13 Thread Michal Kukuča
Public bug reported:

When I'm using Nouveau drivers with my Asus notebook (F556UQ-DM953T) and
Ubuntu 17.10, I can't shutdown the computer properly if I suspended the
machine previously. The notebook uses the Optimus configuration (Intel
HD + NVIDIA GeForce 940MX).

Scenario 1:
1. Startup computer.
2. Normal usage.
3. Shutdown > Everything works.

Scenario 2:
1. Startup computer.
2. Normal usage.
3. Suspend (e.g. by closing the lid) > Wakeup.
4. Normal usage.
5. Shutdown > Computer freezes and must be turned off using the power button.
There is absolutely nothing in the journal (when it comes to this boot
session). It seems that nothing gets written to it after the shutdown command.

Workaround: Use the proprietary NVIDIA drivers with "Power Saving Mode"
- everything works as expected there.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1752053] Re: nvidia-390 fails to boot graphical display

2018-03-13 Thread walkerstreet
I still get a blank screen with a text cursor in the top left corner on
my desktop computer. There is no login and no GUI after I install the
nvidia-driver-390. It has 2 GTX 1080 Ti cards. My laptop is working
OK. Can anyone help me or give me some tips on how to troubleshoot
this?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1755232] Re: Xorg crashes when tapping Unity system tray icons

2018-03-13 Thread krzychoocpp
I tried adding critical section to DeactivatePointerGrab. Xorg was working,
including multitouch.
After some time, when I touched the screen (single finger) it deadlocked. So
it really looks like a multithreading issue.
