First a small warning: You seem to be using the 'oibaf' graphics PPA which is not supported and is known to cause bugs. However I think it's unlikely that's relevant here. Second, other people are already reporting that having the Nvidia driver installed has broken their brightness control. See bug 1861532 and bug 1857764.
