[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1887356] Re: System crashes while loading an application in cisco webex meeting

2020-07-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1845801] Re: [nvidia] Automatic login fails and then all subsequent logins fail. Killing gnome-session-binary fixes it, or just not using automatic login.

2020-07-13 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
Ubuntu no longer uses vt.handover and it should not be specified at all
anymore.

We boot directly to tty1, always and everywhere, and we should not be
setting that at all.

Thus a patch changing that from 7 to 1 is not a good idea for focal+.

And I can't quite remember which releases we have changed to booting to
tty1 by default. Maybe it was bionic, or between xenial and bionic?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1886977] Re: Grid-like cursor movement on touchpad

2020-07-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
OK, bad news then... This appears to be a kernel/hardware bug unique to
your laptop. It's pretty rare but I have also seen it before on Lenovo
X230s (I think).

Next I suggest trying a live boot of Ubuntu 20.04:

  https://releases.ubuntu.com/20.04/

or just trying newer kernels:

  https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=M;O=D

to see if a fix has already been released for this issue.

Just checked, and the elliptic hysteresis feature (to remove grid-like
movement) is in libinput 1.10.2, so you should have the fix already.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1886912] Re: DELL M3800 Touchscreen not working after login with fractional scaling.

2020-07-13 Thread altadeos
Just a little precision.

If I open my "rom1" session where I have enabled and disabled the
fractional scaling, then I close it and open the "test" session my
touchscreen is not working.

If I reboot the computer and open "test" session only my touchscreen is
working.

It seems that open my "rom1" session first block something on the system
that affect all users that log after. If I don't open this session after
a reboot I have no problem on other users.

Please find the result of this command on my test session with working
touchscreen:
journalctl -b0 > journal_working_touchscreen.txt

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1886912] Re: DELL M3800 Touchscreen not working after login with fractional scaling.

2020-07-13 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I assume the device in question is the 'SYNAPTICS Synaptics Large Touch
Screen'. The log file in comment #56 shows that xserver-xorg-input-
libinput is aware of the device but not using it.

It also looks like you have a Xorg config file that is trying to
configure that device so that config file might be the problem. Please
try removing any Xorg config files you have created.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1845801] Re: [nvidia] Automatic login fails and then all subsequent logins fail. Killing gnome-session-binary fixes it, or just not using automatic login.

2020-07-13 Thread Zakhar
Hello, I can confirm that this bug still exists in 20.04.

I am using NVidia 340.108 because this is a 12 years old laptop with a
completely obsolete GeForce GT230M.

Workaround #34 (removing quiet splash) worked but slows down the boot
process due to the speed of writing on the console.

Workaround #101 work fine: no "garbage" output on the console and no
slow down. 12 years old PC booting in 40 sec (including 8.5 due to the
BIOS itself).

Unfortunately patching manually the grub.cfg does not withstand updates
like kernel that will run update-grub, so I hope there will be a better
patch soon!

Super-D does work correctly in Ubuntu 20.04 at least. I just tested it.

As for Ubuntu 19.10, that is about to reach end of life:

  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

so any bugs in 19.10 won't get fixed. Please install Ubuntu 20.04
instead.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1887208] Re: May be xorg
