[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1893569] Re: Genius Wireless Mouse freezes

2020-09-01 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It looks like there are disconnection/reconnection problems with the USB
dongle for this mouse in your kernel log. So this might be a kernel bug
or it might be a hardware problem.

Please try:

  * A different mouse

  * A different kernel like https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v5.8.5/amd64/

** Summary changed:

- The mouse freezes
+ Genius Wireless Mouse freezes

Please look in /var/crash and tell us if you have any crash files there.

Also next time the freeze happens, please then reboot and run:

  journalctl -b-1 > prevboot.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

I too was having this issue on a Dell XPS 15.

Tried all the nvidia versions available on the normal ubuntu repo's for
20.04 (except nouveau). Moving to the ppa and the 450 driver solved my
issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1893686] Re: [nvidia] Some apps show semi-random corruption

2020-09-01 Thread Gavin Haslett
Please see attached. As you can see I have the Ubuntu Software tool to
the right, and I have Gnome Tweaks open to the left. You can also see
other apps that are showing normal functioning. Gnome Tweaks
particularly doesn't seem to show corrupted window decorations unless
Ubuntu Software is open.

Oddly also, Tweaks' window decoration issues don't seem to be coming up
on the screenshot. I am seeing moving pixels of random discoloration
particularly in the drop shadows. Often red.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1893774] [NEW] Screen freeze when loging in after a log out

2020-09-01 Thread snow
Public bug reported:

I use Kubuntu 20.04.1 on Thinpad T495 with encrypted disk (LVMS) and
finger print reader.

PROBLEM:
1. I boot the laptop and can work
2. I log my user out and try to log in again with te password
3. I enter the password and press enter
4. The screen freezes and shows the login screen. It can only be killed and
rebooted.

Also, the finger print reader works everywhere, but not in the situation
above. These are the seetings of my common-auth file:

# here are the per-package modules (the "Primary" block)
auth[success=2 default=ignore]  pam_fprintd.so max_tries=1 timeout=10 #
debug
auth[success=1 default=ignore]  pam_unix.so nullok_secure try_first_pass

But I do NOT think that the problem is related to the fingerprint
reader.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1893771] [NEW] gnome fonts too large / detected screen size incorrect

2020-09-01 Thread Malte Kleemeier
Public bug reported:

Hi!

after the latest update, I observe problems with the font size used by gdm and
the gnome gui.
It seems that the font size is now twice as large as before. This affects the
login screen as well as elements of the gui (top bar, icon names on the
desktop, pop up menus when right-clicking on the desktop). Fonts of standard
applications (firefox, libreofffice, etc.) still have the correct size.

I'm currently using a 43" 4K monitor. xpdyinfo correctly detects its
resolution (3840x2160), but the detected screen size is obviously wrong
(602x341 mm2, which would correspond to a 27" monitor).

Please see attached screenshot.

My NVidia Driver Version is: 440.100

The problem can be temporarily fixed by going to Settings->Displays, and
then clicking "Scale 200%" and "Apply". A dialog appears and asks
whether I would like to keep the setting. If I click "revert", all font
sizes are now ok. Unfortunately the problem reappears after a reboot.

Similar reports can be found under:

2020-09-01 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Public bug reported:

The version of wayland-client.pc in groovy has a Requires.private:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1893638] Re: X forgets middle mouse button exists

2020-09-01 Thread Daniel van Vugt
OK. Next step is to check if the kernel can see the middle button. To do
that, please:

  sudo apt install evtest
  sudo evtest

Then select your mouse and click the middle button. Does the tool show
events from BTN_MIDDLE ?

Also what does evtest list as "Supported events" for the mouse when you
first start evtest?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1893638] Re: X forgets middle mouse button exists

2020-09-01 Thread gardron
xev wasn't showing anything on middle click at all without enabling the
emulation. I agree it's counter-intuitive to need middle emulation when
there's a physical button but that's how I've managed to get around it.

The problem is there without the mouse running through the KVM as well
