[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1887190] Re: MSFT Touchpad not working on Lenovo Legion-5 15ARH05

2021-02-03 Thread Paras
Hey everyone, I am also facing this issue, but i am unable to make the
touchpad work using the patch in #217 with #211's procedure. I can see
some people were able to solve the issue without the patch using Ubuntu
20.04 and kernel 5.10/5.11. I work with ROS and as there is no official
support for ROS on Ubuntu 20.04, can anyone please confirm if I can
solve this on Ubuntu 18.04 by updating the kernel to 5.10/5.11
version(currently i have 5.4.0-65-generic). Thank You.

By the way, a different scaling factor on the login screen is expected.
Because that runs as a different user and so doesn't use the same
display settings you chose for yourself.

If you would like the login screen to use your own preferred scaling
factor then you should be able to copy your monitor config to the login
screen with something like:

  sudo cp ~/.config/monitors.xml ~gdm/.config/

Thanks for the bug report.

The two cursors problem (which mostly affects amdgpu) is bug 1873052.

There is also bug 1870736 which sounds related but that one seems to be
for the Nvidia driver only. Since you're using amdgpu we should probably
keep this bug separate(?)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1914458] [NEW] Crash after stylus touch on wacom tablet

2021-02-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

A bug in the input-wacom module was causing intermittent crashes when
the stylus first touched the tablet. This is documented here:

https://github.com/linuxwacom/input-wacom/issues/234

Apparently input-wacom has been released with a fix, I was told that I
need to raise a bug in launchpad to get this fix propagated into an
update for 20.04 (apologies if that is not the case).

According to the above link, the fix has been released and accepted into
the main upstream kernels (I don't know which versions exactly) - I'm
unclear as to what the process is for this to go into an LTS update..
after much searching all I've read is that one should raise a bug in
launchpad(!) Many thanks..

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1914467] [NEW] Problem with fractional scaling

2021-02-03 Thread Eric De Pessemier
Public bug reported:

Hello,

I would like to report a problem with fractional scaling.

I have set it at 125%. I'm using a Huawei Matebook 13inch 2020 AMD (Ryzen 5
3500u) with Radeon Vega 8 Graphics.

After starting the laptop, at the logon screen, the scaling seems to be
at 200% but after I logon and go into my user session it turns to a
scaling of 125%. At that moment I see 2 mouse pointers, one scaled 200%
and one scaled at 125%. The mouse pointer which is scaled at 200%
remains in its last position before the login process. It stays on top
of any app or window that you open which is a bit annoying.

The second mouse pointer (scaled at 125%) behaves normally.

I tried to take a screenshot, but on a screenshot neither mouse pointer
appear so I took a picture which I've added to this bug report.

This bug is not specific to this version of Ubuntu, I can reproduce the
problem in version 20.10. I haven't tried this in version 20.04. PopOS
20.10 does not exhibit this problem.

It's a pity that Gnome has not yet made a better implementation of
fractional scaling, high density display have been around for a while
now. One would expect if one sets the scaling at 125%, that this would
be applied system wide (sorry for the rant).

Best regards,
Eric

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1914413] [NEW] amdgpu driver interaciton with lm-sensor causes fans to spin up in kernel 5.8

2021-02-03 Thread munbi
Public bug reported:

Previously reported here as a kernel bug (
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-signed-
hwe-5.8/+bug/1910562 ), now after finding root cause reporting here
also.

After updating via apt dist-upgrade from kernel 5.4.0-59 to kernel
5.8.0-34 the fan on my machine started switching on (for an instant) and
off every 10 seconds even when idle with CPU at 48/50°C.

Switching back to previous kernel solves temporary the problem, i.e.
fans are always off with light desktop work.

The new behavior is really annoying and I guess not healthy for the
fans.

I'm on latest Dell bios, with every other package updated.

So, after testing several different kernels and live distros to pinpoint
this bug, I finally found out the problem: it's an interaction between
lm-sensors and amdgpu driver with kernel > 5.4.0.

I found out by chance because I noticed the problem happened only after
logging in with a graphical session.

This is what is happening:
- a gnome extension to monitor sensors/temps calls the 'sensors' utility from
package lm-sensors every 10 senconds
- sensors 'hangs' for a couple of seconds when poking something related to the
amdgpu driver
- amdgpu driver spits some warning/errors on vt console and dmesg
- fans starts spinning for one sec
- then sensors continue normally displaying the readouts from other sensor

This is the output of 'sensors', taken in a non-graphical console
(ctr+alt+F3) with kernel 5.8.0-41:

[UNRELATED OUTPUT]

amdgpu-pci-0100
Adapter: PCI adapter
[ 112.780951] [drm:dce110_edp_wait_for_hpd_ready [amdgpu]] *ERROR*
dce110_edp_wait_for_hpd_ready: wait timed out!
[ 113.380939] [drm:dce110_edp_wait_for_hpd_ready [amdgpu]] *ERROR*
dce110_edp_wait_for_hpd_ready: wait timed out!
vddgfx: 1.05 V
edge: +44.0°C (crit = +94.0°C, hyst = -273.1°C)
power1: 7.12 W (cap = 35.00 W)

[UNRELATED OUTPUT]

This is the complete kernel log from amgpu when this happens:

[ 111.572873] [drm] PCIE GART of 256M enabled (table at 0x00F4).
[ 112.780951] [drm:dce110_edp_wait_for_hpd_ready [amdgpu]] *ERROR*
dce110_edp_wait_for_hpd_ready: wait timed out!
[ 113.380939] [drm:dce110_edp_wait_for_hpd_ready [amdgpu]] *ERROR*
dce110_edp_wait_for_hpd_ready: wait timed out!
[ 113.411556] [drm] UVD and UVD ENC initialized successfully.
[ 113.521534] [drm] VCE initialized successfully.

It seems that lm-sensors poking the amdgpu thermal sensor i triggering
some sort of reset and/or causing the thermal infrastructure to spin up
the fans

Note that this is not happening with kernel 5.4, with which sensor
reports this:

amdgpu-pci-0100
Adapter: PCI adapter
vddgfx: N/A
edge: N/A (crit = +94.0°C, hyst = -273.1°C)
power1: N/A (cap = 35.00 W)

[UNRELATED OUTPUT]

Note the missing data about amdgpu and no console kernel warning
messages.

Disabling the gnome sensor check extension solves the problem for now,
but there is definitely something going on here.

Please feel free to ask me for anything I can do/test to help solve this
problem
