loading modesetting module - corrupted double-linked list
Date: Tue, Jan 7, 2014 03:14

Adam Bruce, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg-server REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is
already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one
would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

Actually since, bug 1157614 was fixed I no longer get put into Low

Not sure why, but bug 982889 never fixed it for me

Like this?

start on ((filesystem
   and runlevel [!06]
   and started dbus
   and started plymouth-splash
   and (drm-device-added card0 PRIMARY_DEVICE_FOR_DISPLAY=1
or stopped udev-fallback-graphics))
  or runlevel PREVLEVEL=S)

I'm still getting the black screen sometimes. I can show you Xorg, but the bug
doesn't hit when I put in the plymouth:debug line

go to a black screen. And sometimes it would go into low graphics mode.
This is a crash report of it going into the low graphics made

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1157614] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in WakeupHandler()

2013-03-20 Thread Adam Bruce
I ran sudo udevadm trigger --action=add --subsystem-match=drm and it
went black and logged me out. On returning I had a crash report, let me
know if you want me to report it (It had the same title as this report)

I edited udevtrigger.conf and it did not fix the bug.

For the first time I have noticed a lightdm crash.. I tried to report it
but it says

This problem report is damaged and cannot be processed.

ValueError('Report does not contain ProblemType field',)

I willl attach it here

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1157614] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in WakeupHandler()

2013-03-20 Thread Adam Bruce
Here is the lightdm crash. I notice is says I have the 'sleep 5' applied
to lightdm.conf, so I guess this means it crashed when I was booting in
successfully as thats the work around I use to login.

Is it to do with the edit I made to udevtrigger?

I can't report it as I have an obsolete package (but it says no
available updates)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1130938] Re: Black screen after resuming from suspend [Dell XPS 15z]

2013-03-15 Thread Adam Bruce
@Christoph Mende, I agree that is probably the same bug as their bisect
said it works on 3.7 and bug appears in 3.8

I have just installed the 3.7 kernel and confirm the bug does not exist,
but it does in 3.8

Do you know if they have posted a bug report which we could track?

OK, I installed it and it hasn't made any improvement.

I can boot about 50% of the time, which is about the same as the

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1125759] Re: Intel integrated graphics boots in low graphics mode

2013-03-13 Thread Adam Bruce
Let me know what I need to do to change this from Incomplete

** Description changed:

After successfully installing 13.04 on my Dell XPS 15z, I restarted the
laptop, successfully booting into Ubuntu with no issues.

Restarting after that then gives the 'System is running in low graphics
  mode' message.

I can only boot in recovery mode

- UPDATE: In the ubuntu forums thread
- (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2115355), jbicha, recommended
- the following which fixed (or worked around) the problem
+ As mentioned in bug 982889 comment#5

- Perhaps this is a problem with SNA which has been enabled by default
- for raring.
+ A workaround is to add some sleep to /etc/init/lightdm.conf:

- Add (or edit if it already exists) /etc/X11/xorg.conf and I think this
- is the code you need:
+ sleep 10
+ exec lightdm

- Code:
+ This works around the issue. However, with further testing it was found
+ that bug 982889 was not being bit and the fix does not fix this bug.

- Section Device
-Identifier Intel Graphics
-Driver intel
-Option AccelMethod uxa
- EndSection
+ The crash report is here: bug 1127023

  Extra info:

This is an repost of bug 1124661 as I submitted that in recovery mode

Other dell users seem to be experiencing similar issues:
  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2115355

I installed and use the parameters mentioned here:
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupport/Machines/Laptops/Dell/XPS/15z

I have an optimus card, which the Nvidia card should be disabled as it
  does not work

xserver-xorg-core:

Which I guess means the newer build is installed?

I'm having more success with this one. Before it was failing everytime,
now it fails about 50% of the time.

I have got logs of the successful boot and failed boot if that helps

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982889] Re: X trying to start before plymouth has finished using the drm driver

2013-03-04 Thread Adam Bruce
I ran apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-core yesterday and realised the
patched hadn't been applied when I originally posted my Xorg logs.

I saw a update today from your PPA and now I see

xserver-xorg-core:
  Installed: 2:1.13.2-0ubuntu3~lp982889~1

So it has now been applied. I guess this was due to the building problem
for amd? It now shows as built successfully.

I know you said my error may be slightly different to the OP, but I
thought I would post as it may be useful and this time I can see the
drm device not ready (#), sleeping for 20us messages you mentioned.

Mine seems similar to Franck's. I'm also seeing 'setversion 1.4 failed'.

It did not boot successfuly though and went to Low Graphics mode. There
is a crash report if you want me to upload that as a report. But I don't
know if it will just be the same as: bug 1130667 - let me know if you
want me to post it

Apport won't let me report as it's not an official package

I don't know if you can make use of the crash file itself?

Otherwise let me know how I can report it to you

Sorry, please see attached. I see no mention of drm like you said

But it does seem to have done something as I could never boot before
without either that xorg config file or the sleep delay

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1125759] Re: Intel integrated graphics boots in low graphics mode

2013-02-19 Thread Adam Bruce
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 982889 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/982889

Bryce, I have added sleep to lightdm.conf as mentioned in comment #5 in
bug 982889

This boots up perfectly everytime, even without the /etc/X11/xorg.conf
file I needed before

So I guess we can assume plymouth is the issue here, as detailed in bug
982889

I'll keep an eye on that report and let you know if it fixes this bug
when that one is fixed

Thanks for your efforts!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982889] Re: X trying to start before plymouth has finished using the drm driver

2013-02-19 Thread Adam Bruce
I have added the PPA and installed the update

First restart went to low graphics mode

I then went to recovery mode to fix the errors, restarting after that
booted successfully

Restarting again boots to low graphics mode

I go to recovery mode again to fix the errors, restarting after that
boots successfully

This repeats everytime

I have attached /var/log/Xorg.0.log

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1125759] Re: Intel integrated graphics boots in low graphics mode

2013-02-16 Thread Adam Bruce
Does it boot up properly more often if you add 'plymouth.enable=0' to
the kernel boot options?

So I removed the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and added plymouth.enable=0
to the boot options (after quiet splash - correct?)

And no, it does not boot up properly, it still goes to low graphics mode

Would you mind expanding on why this is invalid and what I can do to
validate it?

Isn't it only in nomodeset because I posted it in recovery mode?

I can now boot normally with disabling SNA, should I repost the report
once I've booted normally?

Thanks,

Adam

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1125759] [NEW] SNA enabled causes Intel integrated graphics to only boot in low graphics mode

2013-02-14 Thread Adam Bruce
Public bug reported:

After successfully installing 13.04 on my Dell XPS 15z, I restarted the
laptop, successfully booting into Ubuntu with no issues.

Restarting after that then gives the 'System is running in low graphics
mode' message.

I can only boot in recovery mode

UPDATE: In the ubuntu forums thread
(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2115355), jbicha, recommended
the following which fixed (or worked around) the problem

Perhaps this is a problem with SNA which has been enabled by default
for raring.

Add (or edit if it already exists) /etc/X11/xorg.conf and I think this
is the code you need:

Code:

Section Device
   Identifier Intel Graphics
   Driver intel
   Option AccelMethod uxa
EndSection

Extra info:

This is an repost of bug 1124661 as I submitted that in recovery mode

Other dell users seem to be experiencing similar issues:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2115355

I installed and use the parameters mentioned here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupport/Machines/Laptops/Dell/XPS/15z

I have an optimus card, which the Nvidia card should be disabled as it
does not work

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1125759] Re: SNA enabled causes Intel integrated graphics to only boot in low graphics mode

2013-02-14 Thread Adam Bruce
I'm hesitant on doing this, as I did try it for 12.04 and it only caused
more issues.

Having the Nvidia disabled has worked fine for 11.10, 12.04 and 12.10

Although if you're sure it's the issue, I will try and find another hard
drive to test it on?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1124661] [NEW] Intel integrated graphics will only boot in low graphics mode

2013-02-13 Thread Adam Bruce
Public bug reported:

After successfully installing 13.04 on my Dell XPS 15z, I restarted the
laptop, successfully booting into Ubuntu with no issues.

Restarting after that then gives the 'System is running in low graphics
mode' message.

I get this everytime now. Have re-installed with latest build and same
issue.

I can only boot in recovery mode

Extra info:

Other dell users seem to be experiencing similar issues:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2115355

I installed and use the parameters mentioned here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupport/Machines/Laptops/Dell/XPS/15z

I have an optimus card, which the Nvidia card should be disabled as it
does not work

Sometimes when booting in recovery mode it says there are errors on the
drive and would I like to fix them, I agree and it fixes them

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1124661] Re: SNA enabled causes Intel integrated graphics to only boot in low graphics mode

2013-02-13 Thread Adam Bruce
** Summary changed:

- Intel integrated graphics will only boot in low graphics mode
+ SNA enabled causes Intel integrated graphics to only boot in low graphics mode

** Description changed:

After successfully installing 13.04 on my Dell XPS 15z, I restarted the
laptop, successfully booting into Ubuntu with no issues.

Restarting after that then gives the 'System is running in low graphics
  mode' message.

I get this everytime now. Have re-installed with latest build and same
  issue.

I can only boot in recovery mode
+
+ UPDATE: In the ubuntu forums thread
+ (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2115355), jbicha, recommended
+ the following which fixed (or worked around) the problem
+
+ Perhaps this is a problem with SNA which has been enabled by default
+ for raring.
+
+ Add (or edit if it already exists) /etc/X11/xorg.conf and I think this
+ is the code you need:
+
+ Code:
+
+ Section Device
+Identifier Intel Graphics
+Driver intel
+Option AccelMethod uxa
+ EndSection
+
+

  Extra info:
