Installing from wily-updates as per
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-
installer/+bug/1493888/comments/183 has my i7 / 4.2.0-17  / 5430 system
working again.  One pleasant surprise is that for the first time ever I
can now drive my card/monitor at 1920x1080 whereas under previous fglrx
versions it maxed out at 1776x1000.

Just another me too to the pile; upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04 on my P4
Shuttle X51 box and find that yet again, a ubuntu upgrade has broken
something -- they always do, every single one has broken something on my
system!  As with all the others, I can run gnome2 and the Nvidia driver
reports activated but not in use
