[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1988484] [NEW] Holding down volume keys sometimes crashes xorg
Public bug reported: Running KDE 5.24.4 on Ubuntu Jammy. On a few occasions, I've been able to trigger a complete desktop crash by pressing and holding the volume keys on my laptop. Steps to reproduce: 1) Have something play audio - typically youtube in a browser 2) Hold down Fn+F3 or Fn+F2 to increase/decrease volume. Crash. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1938195] [NEW] Configuration for eGPU removed on update
Public bug reported: ThinkPad X1C9 running Kubuntu. I'm using an external nVidia GPU in an enclosure, attached via thunderbolt. I have applied updates over the last few weeks, and rebooted today. Got a black screen. Turns out an update back in mid June (22nd) removed the Option "AllowExternalGpus" "true" from my xorg.conf. Why is an update removing a vital configuration option enabling me to display my login screen? I had to re-edit the xorg.conf like an cave man from 20 years ago. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1533786] [NEW] (EE) [mi] EQ overflowing. Additional events will be discarded until existing events are processed. - xorg hang
Public bug reported: I have a few chromium windows open, with some tabs (39 in total) including 2xgmail, twitter, g+ and a few docs. Also about 6 youtube upload windows, uploading a bunch of videos. I walked away from my laptop and now it's almost entirely unresponsive. If I type my password into lightdm and wait long enough the characters appear one by one over a period of about 10 minutes. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1421575] [NEW] Desktop corruption when changing monitor config
Public bug reported: Thinkpad X220 running vivid up to date. Usually sits in docking station with external monitor. Today I ran the laptop outside the docking station, and plugged it into the dock while running (which worked fine forever on utopic) but today it now freaks out. I deleted ~/.config/monitors.xml to reset my display config I restarted and logged in with both monitors active. As soon as I change the display config doing the display corrupts, flickers and becomes unusable. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1283568] Re: Desktop crashes when changing resolution
Well. Here's a funny thing. I was going mad last night trying all kinds of xorg options. On many occasions I'd get a black desktop after login - unity was dying. If I did get unity started then changing resolution would corrupt the display as reported in the bug. However I could login and change resolution as any other user. Other clues like getting the welcome to dropbox dialog on login led me to realise it was something broken with my profile. I then started systematically moving/removing config from ~/.config/ and couldn't figure out what was breaking it. So I went on a bit of a rampage and removed all of ~/.config/nautilus and ~/.config/dconf. This fixed the problem. I can now login fine, and more importantly can change resolution, all with no changes to my xorg.conf (which I'd already reverted). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1283568] [NEW] Desktop crashes when docking/undocking
Public bug reported: Thinkpad X220 with docking bay with external display attached to it. I frequently dock and undock my laptop while it's on. Since about thursday (I think) the desktop becomes completely unusable when I dock or undock. The screen visibly corrupts, for example when undocking (and going from 1x1080p external screen to 1x768 internal panel) or docking. It flickers madly as if it's trying to crowbar 1920x1080 pixels into 1366x768 panel. Switching to VT and suspend/resume doesn't fix it. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1277905] [NEW] Game windows (minecraft, titan attacks, maybe others) on Intel are transparent and no longer playable
Public bug reported: Fully up to date Trusty. Open Minecraft, notice that the window is transparent - you can see through to the desktop wallpaper, making the game unplayable. Also tested with Titan Attacks which is also a lwjgl based game - dunno if that's coincidence This worked a few days ago. Probably before the most recent xorg update. See screenshots. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1272338] Re: Xorg memory leak on trusty
I tend to have two chromium sessions open, one for personal, one for work. Typically they can have 20 tabs open each. They both have gmail always open. Personal also has G+, tweetdeck, drive and few non-dynamic pages. Most of my work pages are google docs or launchpad pages. I may have spotify open. Other than that I have a couple of terminals open and a few indicators. Now and then I'll open minecraft, but not that often, and that doesn't seem to correlate with this. Nothing seems to aggravate it, but I do tend to have the same pages open all the time, so it could well be some js heavy page like G+ or tweetdeck? ** Description changed: X locks up periodically for a 2 to ten seconds at a time and this crash log gets generated. It's significantly more than several times a day but not quite continuous. Temporarily disabiling semaphores seems to eliminate the problem. E.g.: $ sudo -s # echo 0 /sys/modules/i915/parameters/semaphores [Workaround] - 1. Edit your /etc/defaults/grub file. + 1. Edit your /etc/default/grub file. 2. Change this line: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash i915.semaphores=0 3. Then run sudo update-grub 4. And reboot If you indeed have this bug, that should stop the lockups from happening. If it doesn't, then file a new bug report. Side Effects: Rendering throughput is dropped by 10% with SNA, or as much as 3x with UXA. OpenGL performance is likely to be reduced by about 30%. More CPU time is spent waiting for the GPU with rc6 disabled, so increased power consumption. I presume when it locks up to the point of un-usability, the only way out is a reboot? You can also collect data about your system to make it easier to diagnose using the following command:- apport-collect 1163209 I'd also run this just to make sure nothing went missing during the upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10 (note the caret):- sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop^ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1163209 Title: Xorg freeze To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1163209/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1111853] Re: Smooth (per-pixel) scrolling unavailable on X230 touchpad
** Description changed: - This is the same hardware as in #1042069, but is a different issue. + This is the same hardware as in bug 1042069, but is a different issue. Two-finger and edge scrolling work correctly in both horizontal and vertical directions. However, there doesn't appear to be any smooth/pixel scrolling: scrolling actions still register as clicks of the mouse wheel and there don't appear to be any smooth-scrolling axes. It should be noted that I'm using the workaround in comment #5 in the above bug (copied below), but smooth scrolling is not present without the configuration either. It may just be a detection issue: I haven't booted Windows on this laptop since I purchased it, but per-pixel scrolling did work there, and it worked on my previous laptop with a Synaptics touchpad. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1002958] [NEW] Moving external monitor around hard-locks x
Public bug reported: On a Lenovo Thinkpad X220:- 1. Attach external screen to the displayport connector via HDMI adapter 2. Boot the computer 3. Login 4. Observe all okay until running the display system settings applet and move the external display above (behind) the laptop display. X crashes to the point I have to use Alt+SysRq to reboot. I can run with the displays side-by-side but not one above the other. (my desk arrangement has the external display behind my laptop not side- by-side). I can recover the situation by moving ~/.config/monitors.xml out the way. I have attached my monitors.xml which may have some configuration issue causing the crash in X. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 927155] Re: [snb-m-gt2+] Viewsonic VA2012w not correctly detected (Invalid EDID)
Hi Bryce, Thinking back over the history of this display. It was previously one of a pair of identical screens each plugged into ports on an nVidia 7900 in twinview. So I would have always had an xorg.conf to maintain the twinview settings and 3360x1050 resolution. I have also just tested a 12.04 live CD with the screen attached to another nVidia based desktop and I get the same problem, so it does look like a monitor-specific thing rather than a video-card related issue, and may well not be a regression after all. I will try the other things you suggest though. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/927155 Title: [snb-m-gt2+] Viewsonic VA2012w not correctly detected (Invalid EDID) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/927155/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
