[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1921286] [NEW] Desktop freeze and corruption after playing Steam game

2021-03-24 Thread Dario Menin
Public bug reported:

Steps for reproducing this issue:

   - Open Steam launching Age Of Empires 2 Definitive edition with discrete
graphics card
   - Play Game
   - Observe some stuttering in game, then close the game
   - Steam locks up and after a short time the whole desktop hangs and becomes
unresponsive (mouse pointer still moves, keyboard doesn't work, for example

Don't know if this is related:

Here https://wayland.freedesktop.org/libinput/doc/latest/touchpad-
jitter.html#overriding-the-hysteresis-margins I found something about
jitter, but if I run:

sudo libinput measure fuzz /dev/input/event5

I get:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1808881] [NEW] Unwanted touchpad movements on tap with Synaptics touchpad on DELL Inspiron-3521

2018-12-17 Thread Dario Menin
Public bug reported:

When using the touchpad, the mouse cursor moves even when keeping the
finger still on one point.

Triggering the behaviour: this happens when the contact surface is very
small, so it gets triggered for example when tapping on a button, right
before the finger leaves the touchpad. This makes clicking buttons using
the touchpad (for example, the "x" button in the browser tabs) very
difficult.

In attachment, an evemu-record done keeping the finger on one point,
barely touching the touchpad.

The recording was done with the command:

sudo evemu-record > touchpad.evemu

Select the device event number [0-13]: 8

To replay the recording (the strange behaviour is particularly visible
in the final part):

sudo evemu-play  /dev/input/event8 < touchpad.evemu

(replace event8 with your input device)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1726536] Re: Cant resume after suspend/sleep

2017-11-15 Thread Dario
This fixed itself, probably by upgrading to 4.14 kernel. Not sure
because I found out accidentally that it no longer stuck on suspend.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1724796] Re: Picture is heavily malformed

2017-11-05 Thread Dario
I think I figured out what's happening. Kernel currently has bug for my
card (rx580, or so I was told on IRC), but I have installed locally
drivers which are loaded automatically on Xorg session (Drivers are from
http://ppa.launchpad.net/oibaf/graphics-drivers/ubuntu). My question is
is there a way to load those drivers via CMD line so I can do that
before GDM or before loging into Wayland (currently I first have to
login into Xorg in order for Wayland to work).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1726536] [NEW] Cant resume after suspend/sleep

2017-10-23 Thread Dario
Public bug reported:

1) 17.10
2) 3.26.1-0ubuntu4
3) Pressing any button wakes computer from suspend/sleep, expecting GDM login
screen.
4) Waking up computer from suspend does nothing, screen remains black as it
doesn't getting any signal (HDD led is blinking as if computer is doing
something). Need to hard reset computer at that point.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1274652] Re: [intel] [haswell] XMir: Vertical line on big screens

2014-04-26 Thread Dario Compagno
Hi,

I have the same problem on the screen of a Sony Vaio Pro (Intel i5
U4200), with Ubuntu Gnome 14.04.

I see vertical flickering lines when reproducing full-screen hi resolution
videos (I have tried with SMPlayer and VLC, exact same issue).
I have also tried to lower the resolution of the screen to 1360x768, but I get
the same effect.

However, it does not do it all the time (even playing with the same
video). May it be linked to overheating somehow?

I can't say if it's the video card because I do not have other O.S. in
this machine.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 214786] Re: Apple USB ISO keyboard has incorrectly swapped keys

2013-02-06 Thread Dario Bertini
I'm affected by this problem as well, but the hid_apple fix didn't work
for me

this is weird, since I'm using the hid_apple.conf already to use the
special keys as default:

 cat /etc/modprobe.d/hid_apple.conf
options hid_apple iso_layout=0 fnmode=1

I tried all of the 3 alternatives that have been written here:
http://wiki.debian.org/InstallingDebianOn/Apple/PageFragmentKeyboard

but not even setting it from GRUB is working

I cannot use the xmodmap setting for a different reason, it seems that I'm
affected by this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-evdev/+bug/289781

the weird thing is that I don't have the evdev module loaded (I guess
that the keyboard driver is supplied through usbhid or something like
that), so for now I'm refraining to set that bug back to confirmed

I also tried to use this file for startup:

 cat .config/autostart/xmodmap.desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Exec=xmodmap -e keycode 49 = 0x3c 0x3e -e keycode 94 = 0x5c 0x7c
Hidden=false
NoDisplay=false
X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=false
Name=remap  and \
Comment=

but it doesn't work (it's for the italian layout if you need it)

If I remember correctly, some time ago I also tried to put a script in
/etc/acpi/resume.sh (now probably it should go into /etc/pm/sleep.d/ )
to no avail

and finally, sebastien bacher suggested me to use a gnome-settings-daemon hook:
http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-settings-daemon/commit/?id=2ec0fbd38cd9d787fc3ad003f462c537ea795890

I wrote this small script

#! /usr/bin/env python3

import argparse
from subprocess import check_call as call
from os.path import expanduser

parser = argparse.ArgumentParser()
parser.add_argument('-t')
parser.add_argument('-i')
parser.add_argument('name')
args = parser.parse_args()

if __name__ == '__main__':
try:
if args.t in (added, present) and args.i == 10:
call([xmodmap, expanduser(~/.Xmodmap)])

#EOF
(I also added some error checking when debugging it, and 10 is the XID obtained
from xinput)

and I added it to g-s-d with

gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.peripherals.input-devices
hotplug-command '/path/to/mac_keyboard_fix.py'

but apparently, gnome-settings-daemon receives a device-added signal,
only for device #11(touchpad) and #14(unknown)

(so, this seems to be denying the hypothesis that the problem is due to
the driver loading the keyboard as a completely different keyboard)

right now, I'm not sure why, but when doing a suspend/resume, if I
previously applied the xmodmap, the change retains... but in the
meanwhile I removed the python script, deactivated the .desktop startup
item, and nothing else should be able to change the behaviour after-
resume without also changing it after bootup, so I'm quite baffled

I get fed up by this issue every few months, and I try to find a
workaround that works once and for all (unless something makes the
xmodmap script working, that is)... but now I've spent too much time on
this, I just hope that something/somebody will improve the situation in
the next months

forgot to remove the try, statement... if you use it and get a syntax

I'm marking this as duplicate of bug #947354 that has been reported on the
laptop testing tracker.
Functionality seems solved on 12.10 beta. Let's see if the team can backport it
to 12.04.
For two-tap Enable/Disable check bug #1010183

Hi Sean.
Reading your message I guess you're addressing me, talking about a small script
I posted to switch cards on hybrid systems, but you pushed reply on the wrong
bug report :D
Can you repost it so we can discuss?
Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 947354] Re: Synaptics Soft Button Areas not working in HP Envy 14 Clickpad

2012-09-09 Thread Dario Ruellan
I'm testing the 50-synaptics.conf shipped with Ubuntu 12.10 beta 1 on my 12.04
LTS, and works pretty well.
Left/right buttons, both working. Tap and two fingers tap (as right-click)
working out-of-the-box.
Something I still could not correct is the oversensitivity when you push the
buttons, but overall is very usable without any tweak.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 961140] [NEW] synclient ClickFinger configuration is ignored

2012-03-21 Thread Dario Bertini
Public bug reported:

This is related, but is not the same bug as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/936341

this appeared only recently in the last 2 weeks, and it affects both the
3 finger (ClickFinger3) and the 2 finger (ClickFInger2) settings

now, by default this is the output of synclient:

ClickFinger1= 1
ClickFinger2= 3
ClickFinger3= 0

this is wrong: there's not reason to disable ClickFinger3 while leaving enabled
ClickFinger2 (and maybe this is the cause for bug 936341)
if both ClickFInger2 3 would've been disabled, that'd have been a change in
behaviour that should be documented

but now, by changing any of the ClickFinger settings (any of the 1,2 or
3) the setting is ignored and it generates a button1 event for all of
these, regardless of it

I found this thread in the ubuntu-devel mailing list
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel/2012-February/034852.html

what I'm referring to with ClickFinger there seems to be called click
actions, it appears that this change may be the cause of this bug, but
Chase Douglas writes:

There are no changes for devices that have separate physical buttons.

Instead, I'm stumbling onto this problem on a old macbook3,1 with a
physical button (synclient correctly reports the ClickPad set at 0)

This is quite a problem, since on these devices you can't enable the
right click zone like on the ClickPads (this led me to use an external
mice in the last days)

I'm not sure if this is an unintended consequence on old machine with a
non-clickpad synaptic touchpad, or if this is expected

if it's the latter, aside from documenting it on the wiki, I think that
then the ClickFinger options should be removed, if truly the ClickPad
changes makes them unusable

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 936341] [NEW] Touchpad middle click generates button 1 event

fingers on the touchpad)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 789050] [NEW] session killed accidentally

2011-05-27 Thread Dario Panico
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

It is not predictable nor reproducible, but it happens from time to time
that during natual usage, the xorg session is killed and then after a
few seconds gdm is restarted and you have to login again.

Today it happened two times in 10 minutes: pretty annoying.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 572521] Re: vertical coloured lines on bootup dell inspiron 1501

2010-05-22 Thread Dario Egea
Hi Bryce/Frank,
I have the same bug in my laptop Inpiron 1501. I'm running Lucid Lynx, with
2.6.31-22-generic kernel. I have less than 6 months experience with Ubuntu, and
I'm very happy so far. In karmik koala I found the same symptoms when turn off,
but nothing to worry. A couple months later, the symptom appears in login
screen, but closing an opening the lid the problem was resolving. Now, with
lucid, I have to login with the colored bars screen (blind login ja) and then
stand by the laptop, and wakeup, this way is the provisional solution.

So which files I have to upload to help the resolutions of this bug?
By the way, I'm from Mendoza, Argentina (goood wines here).

Greetings.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 391687] [NEW] (UXA) Gdm/X freezes with gm965

2009-06-24 Thread Dario Bertini
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I activated accelmethod uxa, logged out, and gdm worked fine... upon
returning in a gnome session i saw improvements in compiz performance
along with the absence of glitches when running 3d programs (like
google-earth and the demo of world of goo) inside compiz (and also a
slight decrease in glxgears fps)

then i powered off, and upon boot gdm got stuck... here's what it looks
like:

http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/7431/20090623093445.jpg

no mouse pointer, no cursors, entering username/password doesn't achieve
anything...

ctrl+alt+f1/f2/f3/etc. doesn't work... i was forced to powering down and
rebooting in single mode to change the xorg.conf

i followed the instructions to do the freeze-test
https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-freeze-test/

the problem persisted with 2.6.30... i'll attach the .tgz with the
logs...

then i disactivated uxa, entered a gnome session, reactivated uxa,
exited the gnome session to gdm and fetched 3 other log files (i'll
attach those too)
