[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2044718] Re: mantic on raspberry5: x and/or lightdm problems

2024-03-30 Thread Dennis Golden
I agree; however, I don't know exactly how to proceed/who to report it
to. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The current work around
works great, but it's still a manual work around with everyone having to
search for an answer.

This certainly effected my use of kubuntu-desktop. As far as I know,
kubuntu requires X11 so I can't believe that it can be ignored.

I saw in another bug that it already got backported in a PPA by Mario
Limonciello: https://launchpad.net/~superm1/+archive/ubuntu/lp1928393

However the bug manifestation looks different in that bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-firmware/+bug/1928393

I attach a dmesg output from my PC, in which you see it differently.

This might also be a related bug:

2021-06-16 Thread Dennis Gnad
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu focal, 20.04.2, amdgpu/Xorg kernel driver crashes/resets occur
with various previous-generation AMD Radeon GPUs, for instance Radeon RX
5500 XT. There is a recent fix in the mesa library.

Please see upstream mesa bug including available patch:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/issues/4866

Patch is available for mesa-stable, 21.1.3 and 21.1.4. It looks like it
could apply to 21.0 (which is in focal-proposed) too, with minor effort.

Thanks if you can backport this!

amdgpu kernel bug: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=213145

I can confirm it with linux-generic-hwe-20.04=5.8.0-55.62~20.04.1 from

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1766077] [NEW] Power Save Blank Screen Resoration Ubuntu 18.04

2018-04-22 Thread Dennis McLeod
Public bug reported:

After Blank Screen has time operated, Display screens can be re-energized but
only to a display of colored noise all over them.
To recover the machine must be turned of and restarted from scratch.

The problem can be bypassed by deactivating the Screen Blank feature and
only using the suspend mode to avoid having to use a forced power off
and loosing data.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 52321] Re: Displayed Image on TFT is 2 pixels off, of what it normally should be

2014-12-10 Thread dennis
I am sorry, I don't have this notebook anymore since about 7-8 years
now. Consider that my last comment was from 2006 -- you might want to
put someone from the newer commenters from 2008-2009 on subscription.
But I don't know if this bug is worth looking into, as there are no
complaints since 2009 here...?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1080674] Re: [QEMU] Corrupted desktop screen for raring desktop installation in QEMU guest (Cirrus graphics). Affects KVM but not VBox.

2014-07-13 Thread Dennis Knorr
Hi,
this happens still in Trusty with all updates (todate: 13.07.2014, 20:00) and
kvm is unusable with this. We wanted to use kvm instead of virtualbox/vmware
but with this, you can forget that.
Why on Earth is it a wontfix?

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 precise referred-by-support
running-unity ubuntu

** Description changed:

I updated 12.04 today, and it included some kernel updates and other
stuff. Dual monitors become compressed/recentered onto one monitor on
reboot. The only workaround seems to be to boot with only one monitor
connected and then plug in the second after Ubuntu has completed reboot.

Graphics card is an NVidia with dual DVI ports, processors is intel i7

Release is Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS release 12.04

What I expect to happen: Start normal

- What happens instead: One monitor of dual monitor receives no signal,
- the other appears to shift its normal display left half a screen,
- leaving the right half filled with the purple Dalek polka dot Ubuntu
- pattern.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1168182] Re: Dual monitors messed up on restart from latest (April 2013) Ubuntu kernel update

2014-01-07 Thread Dennis Evangelista
The behavior still happens - on reboot with dual monitors, one monitor
gets no signal while the other has the screen shifted by half and purple
dot background filling the rest.

I wish I could test with the latest development release but I need this
system intact for work and can't mess with it so much. Also please note
I have not duplicated these symptoms on any other machine. If no one
else is reporting it perhaps it is a hardware or setup specific issue
(although someone else tagged it as being xorg-server problem a while
back).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1077430] [NEW] Default font for Firefox causes input size issues!

2012-11-10 Thread Dennis Jakobsen
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu default font causes major size problems in forms with input
type=text and the size attribute.

font-family: 'Ubuntu'; which is the default, an input type=text size=1
field can contain 7 characters. If i force input fields to have a font-
family: monospace; font, it works again.

Please pick a better font for Firefox!

I can confirm this is NOT fixed in 1:0.9.6+bzr20110929-0ubuntu6

Please add this fix, there's more than two AMD users out there and they

Hmmm.. On deeper investigation, my issue still remains. (I'm on nvidia)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 816635] Re: During upgrade of kernel - X doesn't start if you use nvidia

2011-07-27 Thread Dennis Nezic
I believe I ran into a similar problem, but with the older 2.6.38 kernel
-- (re)installing nvidia-173 wouldn't build the kernel module. It turns
out it needs the linux-headers for that particular kernel, to build :p.
I believe that's a bug in nvidia-173 -- failing to install the linux-
headers as a dependency? I didn't try reinstalling nvidia-current... but
I'm guessing if that works, it does have the proper dependencies?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 635523] Re: Xephyr crashed with SIGSEGV

2011-04-07 Thread Dennis Sheil
Seeing this problem in Natty. Ajax's patch works for me, although
needing the following modifications in Natty due to the KdScreenInfo
data structure definition changing -

screen-fb[0].depth
screen-fb[0].bitsPerPixel

should be:

screen-fb.depth
screen-fb.bitsPerPixel

Xephyr would not launch for me, now it does.

Last time around, Keith Packard wanted a more robust patch to deal with
this, so that seems to be the requirements for Xephyr. I don't think
Ubuntu's criteria is as high for this, and we can probably have the
package patched locally with Ajax's patch.

Purging xserver-xorg-video-nouveau worked here as well. FWIW: The box
hasn't been touched for some months. Probably should have tried this
sooner.

Thanks guys,

2011-02-07 Thread Dennis
You are starting the default desktop? That is the netbook menu and it's
hiding in the upper left corner. The left side of the window is also the
place where the menu appears when you move the mouse in that direction. At
my laptop the response is very slow and unworkable due to a intel driver
issue (I think) so I am limited in my suggestions for you.
Have you created a separate user for this 11.04 environment, with a separate
home directory like /home/separate/. I would recommend that, the settings
might interfere with the settings from other ubuntu versions.

2011/2/7 rtstxtrdnr 711...@bugs.launchpad.net

I have done this on a separate partition but now am trying to work with
missing buttons on the dashand cannot add them. The most important are
places, application, and system. Also the firebox button disappeared! Any
help would be great. I am currently using 10.10 to work on.

  @Dennis, thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 694200] [NEW] nvidia-173 (173.14.28-0ubuntu1) fails to build kernel module with kernels 2.6.35 and 2.6.36

2010-12-24 Thread Dennis Nezic
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nvidia-173

nvidia-173 fails to build kernel module with kernels 2.6.35 and 2.6.35

With my recently updated Ubuntu 10.10, the nvidia-173 package fails to
build the kernel module for the latest 2.6.35-24-generic kernel, and
also for the newer 2.6.36-020636-generic. It does, however, build it for
the older 2.6.32-24-generic kernel.

It seems to fail because: the kernel source for this kernel does not
seem to be installed.

Here is what it does when it works (w/ 2.6.32):

Here is what it fails (w/ 2.6.35/6):

With the failed 2.6.35/2.6.36 attempts, this is the output for find
/var/lib/dkms/nvidia-173/: (it should be full of source files, etc. It's not.)
/var/lib/dkms/nvidia-173/
/var/lib/dkms/nvidia-173/173.14.28
/var/lib/dkms/nvidia-173/173.14.28/build
/var/lib/dkms/nvidia-173/173.14.28/source

So, why is the kernel source missing?

And, on a somewhat related note, why does each
installation/reinstallation attempt of nvidia-173 remove all DKMS
Modules? This is very annoying, since it doesn't allow us to boot into
different kernels, without having to manually reinstall nvidia-173 each
time.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 660756] Re: package nvidia-173 173.14.28-0ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: nvidia-173 kernel module failed to build

2010-12-24 Thread Dennis Nezic
My bug #694200 is a duplicate of this one. The make.log.txt file seems
to be the (only?) informative one here. Failed CC sanity check. Bailing
out!

Was this package tested when it was released? :P

Bug #599035 also seems to be related -- it deals with the older
nvidia-173 package 173.14.22. It's make.log.txt file is also
informative, but slightly different.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 599035] Re: package nvidia-173 173.14.22-0ubuntu11 failed to install/upgrade: nvidia-173 kernel module failed to build

2010-12-24 Thread Dennis Nezic
nvidia-173 version 173.14.28 is now out, and it also fails to build the
kernel module nvidia-173.ko with kernels 2.6.35 and 2.6.36 (as reported
in bug #694200), although it works with kernel 2.6.32-24. The error
message from the make.log.txt file is slightly different. (Here is a
more complete bug report for the 173.14.28 failure to build: bug
#660756)

Please fix! There is no 3d graphics support for many nvidia cards in the
latest Ubuntu 10.10 !
