I thought the whole point of an LTS release is that nothing major breaks? Really disappointing to do an apt-get update and break my laptop :( I have a GeForce 310M and this is the only supported driver. What is the likelihood that the patch from comment #2 will make it into the mainstream patch cycle for 16.04 repositories? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-304 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1737750 Title: nvidia-graphics-drivers-304 304.137-0ubuntu2 ADT test failure with linux 4.15.0-1.2 [error: implicit declaration of function ‘init_timer’] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-304/+bug/1737750/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973893] [NEW] [precise] Proprietary nVidia driver causes kernel panic
Public bug reported: Hi Devs, I'm using 12.04 (beta2) and I get a kernel panic (flashing Caps + Scroll lock) after about 20mins of use if I activate the fancy non-open source nVidia driver. lspci reports that I have: 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G71GL [Quadro FX 3500] (rev a1) I'm running on an Intel 5000X series motherboard and have a Xeon CPU if it makes any difference. I have not customized this installation at all. From previous experience I suspect that it may be a hardware conflict, but that doesn't make much sense since it's a pre-built IBM workstation - they should test everything in concert. (It's an IntelliStation MT:9228) Also binary linux drivers are provided by IBM, but only for RedHat and Suse - I did not install them. This PC never crashes if I stick with the nouveau driver. I have attached the full output of lspci and /var/log/kern.log ** Affects: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973893 Title: [precise] Proprietary nVidia driver causes kernel panic To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24/+bug/973893/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
