[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1568604] Re: Mouse cursor lost when unlocking with Intel graphics

2016-10-30 Thread Grant
Same issue as reported in comment #244. The fix release for elementary
OS only applies to version 0.4 Loki. Those of us running 0.3 Freya with
the Trusty LTS Enablement Stack have not received an updated xserver-
xorg-video-intel-lts-xenial:

$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: elementary OS
Description:elementary OS Freya
Release:0.3.2
Codename: freya

$ dpkg -l | grep xorg-video-intel-lts-xenial
ii xserver-xorg-video-intel-lts-xenial
2:2.99.917+git20160325-1ubuntu1~trusty1 amd64
X.Org X server -- Intel i8xx, i9xx display driver

According to comment #203, the fix is in xserver-xorg-video-intel
version 2:2.99.917+git20160325-1ubuntu1.1 (versus
2:2.99.917+git20160325-1ubuntu1). Hopefully this package will be updated
in Trusty, so distros such as elementary OS Freya can benefit.

As mentioned before, the workaround is switching ttys with Ctl-Alt-F1
and then back with Ctl-Alt-F7.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1263319] Re: Touchpad not detected on Dell XPS 13 (9333)

2014-01-13 Thread Alistair Grant
I'm seeing something similar to xian98. I have i2c_hid black listed as
described, but mostly use a mouse. After multiple suspend / wake cycles
the mouse stops working and I have to reboot.

I'm also using touchpad indicator, and I would guess from its behaviour
that some dbus messages aren't being generated (but haven't had the
opportunity to track it down properly).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-08-08 Thread Grant Phillips
FYI: Ubuntu moved nvidia driver to 1.1 and is now important security
update.

Version 295.40-0ubuntu1.1:

  * SECURITY UPDATE: privilege escalation via kernel memory access
- debian/dkms/patches/blacklist-vga-pmu-registers.patch: blacklist
  more offsets in nv.{c,h}.
- debian/dkms.conf{.in}: added new patch.
- CVE number pending

Haven't tried 1.1 but highly doubt this would fix it according to the
updates. Volunteers? :)

2012-05-21 Thread Grant Phillips
As per David Edwards (purple52), 290.10 stops the xorg crash. I've been
stable for over day now. Chrome seem to increase the crash frequency,
but it's all good now.

Nice start to my migration from 7 to Ubuntu. Can finally get on with it
now.

messed up your color map.  Can you confirm the issue is still affecting
 you?

If it is, can you outline the steps you follow to reproduce it?  Also,
try using xvinfo or xvattr to check if some parameters are being changed
by those apps but not being restored after.

I experienced the above bug and applied the PPA patch, and all is good.
Although it is slow, it is atleast useable now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 740655] [NEW] Incorrect colour map for xv on radeon driver

2011-03-22 Thread Grant Likely
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

XV video output with the radeon driver (at least I assume it is a driver
problem) produces incorrectly coloured video output. The effect can be
seen from the gstreamer-properties application by selecting both xv and
no xv options in the video tab and clicking 'test'.

I'll attach screen shots of the good and bad output.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 661546] Re: Slow graphics on Mobile Intel 943GML

2011-03-14 Thread Grant Likely
I'm running into the same issue on Natty. This is on a MacBook 2,1 with
an external monitor. Intel 945GM chipset. It appears to be related to
the framebuffer size. The laptop panel works fine alone, as does an
external monitor at 1920x1080 alone.

However, if I enable both displays at full resolution, then I get the
Failed to set tiling on frontbuffer error message in Xorg.0.log, and
compositing is *very slow*. If I reduce the resolution on both
monitors, then I can get it working correctly again.

Here's an error log from the failed case:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 124406] Re: Keyboard keys get stuck and repeat (Feisty, Gutsy)

2011-01-13 Thread Grant Bowman
This bug effects some people more than others leading to difficulty
replicating the problem. For those it does effect it's quite
frustrating.

The http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23938 bug linked from
above has a comment at the end that links to this description of the
core problem that might be relevant.
http://ajaxxx.livejournal.com/62378.html

I hope the right people can act on this.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 676413] Re: Video playback performance drops substantially after suspend/wake cycle (Lenovo X201 i5 w/ Intel GMA HD)

2010-11-19 Thread Grant Heaslip
Actually, after playing around with scrolling, it looks like it does
degrade pretty noticeably after a sleep/wake cycle. It's a lot worse on
sites that have more images on them. I've got an SSD, so it's not a huge
deal for me to shut down rather than suspend, but this is a pretty
serious issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 676413] [NEW] Video playback performance drops substantially after suspend/wake cycle (Lenovo X201 i5 w/ Intel GMA HD)

2010-11-17 Thread Grant Heaslip
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Note: I'm not 100% sure that this issue is with the driver, but it's my
best guess and I figured it would include the most relevant diagnostic
info.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 32-bit on a Lenovo X201 (i5, Intel GMA HD
graphics). When I first boot, video playback for Flash and HTML5 videos
in Chrome and Firefox is smooth. But if I suspend then wake up, it drops
noticeably. A few examples:

- HTML5 videos play smoothly after a reboot. Once I suspend/wake, they're
choppy at best. Regular-sized videos seem to play fine regardless of size.
- Flash videos play smoothly (albeit with the usual Flash bugginess) after a
reboot. Once I suspend/wake, they're *really* choppy on Chrome, and bring
Firefox to its knees (it freezes for seconds at a time).

Playing videos in Movie Player doesn't seem to be affected by this, but
I'm not sure if this is just a result of it being so much more efficient
than the browsers that the performance drop isn't visible. Likewise, I'm
not sure if there's a qualitative difference between the full-screen and
regular-sized videos in Chrome and Firefox, or if the added load of
scaling the videos is making the performance hit noticeable.

I've tried both 64-bit and 32-bit 10.10, and both seem to suffer from
exactly the same problem. I don't recall this being an issue in 10.04--I
only used it for a month or so before 10.10 was released, but I think I
would have noticed this regardless.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 416001] Re: Notification and similar dialogs are displaying corrupted after update on Karmic

2009-11-02 Thread Grant Bowman
After living with this problem for a long time and a few hours of
playing around I found a fix. I created an xorg.conf file and added one
line to the Device section changing to EXA instead of XAA, leaving all
defaults the same. Here's the important part:

Section Device
Option AccelMethodEXA
[...]
EndSection

Why does this work? For some cards like some models of Mobility Radeon
the developers decided to change the default from EXA to XAA for
performance reasons. Most other ATI cards default to EXA, but some
default to XAA. Even if you think you know what it should default to,
double check it. Changing the AccelMethod fixed my problems.
