[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 218637] Re: Non-breaking space is easy to write accidentally and impossible or hard to distinguish from regular space.
** Description changed: OS: from Hardy to at least Bionic. When you use Finnish keyboard, you have to hold Alt Gr down to type | or \ or certain other characters. When typing a shell command, you may often want to enter a space character after such characters. But it easily happens that Alt Gr is still down when you press space, and consequently you type non-breaking space character U+00A0 (at least, if you use UTF-8 keyboard layout, which is default in Ubuntu). $cd /tmp ; echo 0 > foo\ bar ; ls "foo bar" ls: cannot access foo bar: No such file or directory $cat foo bar | grep 0 No command ' grep' found, but there are 16 similar ones grep: command not found Besides it may be hard to see the typing error, as non-breaking space character looks exactly same as regular space character. A way to avoid such typos would be to use another keyboard shortcut for non-breaking space. Besides non-breaking space should look different than regular space in terminal emulators and in editors. WORKAROUNDS: Run setxkbmap -option "nbsp:none" to make type regular space character. Even better option is to use "classic", "mac" or "nodeadkeys" keyboard variant instead of "". This could be set up in /etc/default/keyboard and maybe in configuration dialog in your desktop environment. Non-breaking space can still be typed (in GTK apps) by u 00a0, if needed. Another option is to use compose key: . In Bash scripts you could also use `printf '\u00a0'` or `printf '\xc2\xa0'` to print a non-breaking space. (You could use `echo -en` instead of `printf`.) Or you could set up a variable `readonly nbsp=$'\u00a0'`. + + Yet another workaround would be to use a font that displays regular + space and non-breaking space differently, but is there one? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xkeyboard-config in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/218637 Title: Non-breaking space is easy to write accidentally and impossible or hard to distinguish from regular space. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1568604] Re: Mouse cursor lost when unlocking with Intel graphics
As for #43 still, if you use other locker than light-locker and switch user using an Action button in xfce4-panel, you can switch back without giving password (by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F7). So it is better to use a script "xflock4 && dm-tool switch-to-greeter" for switching user, if you do not use light-locker. Besides, xscreensaver does not let you unlock a guest session, since it takes null password as cancel. Customize your guest session to not lock on suspend, not to autostart xscreensaver, and to have the ~/.Xresources customization for it, too. (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CustomizeGuestSession) BTW. you can not unlock guest session even if you use light-locker. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1568604 Title: Mouse cursor lost when unlocking with Intel graphics To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1568604/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 995715] Re: X defaulting keyboard locale to US at login by a keyboard paired with Logitech Unifying Receiver
Oh, after editing /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf like told in comment #23, I was unable to get login screen after boot in Xubuntu 15.10. At least I got login screen after I removed the (otherwise nonexisting) file. ** Description changed: - Note: A way to circumvent this bug - at least for the login screen when using LightDM - is to add: - display-setup-script=setxkbmap - In /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf - - - After upgrading Kubuntu Oneiric to Precise, X locale is defaulted to en_US regardless of system-wide and user-specific options. + After upgrading Kubuntu Oneiric to Precise, X locale is defaulted to + en_US regardless of system-wide and user-specific options. I found out about this issue when I tried to login via the KDM greeter and it was not recognizing my password. I got pam authentication failures in the auth.log, but authorizations files were just fine. In fact, I could login from the console and within KDE itself. When I tried typing into the KDM username box, I found out that special characters were not corresponding to my it_IT layout. My password was including the special character @ that was typed as ; thus not accepting my password. I worked this around by changing password to not include any special character. I installed LightDM and the problem persisted, so I thought about an evdev bug. Recently, German users were experiencing the same problem [ http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/kein-login-in-kdm-nach-upgrade/ ] where I found out that the only thing in common is a wireless keyboard. I bought a Logitech K800 (which uses a Unifying Receiver) when I was running Oneiric, making this the first time I upgraded a distribution while a wireless keyboard is connected. I tried current Xubuntu daily ISO by running it from live USB media without installing the system to hard disk. Then I installed chromium- browser to the session. I couldn't reproduce the bug, but maybe system works somewhat differently when running live session. BTW using usb-creator-gtk* didn't work: resulting USB stick wouldn't boot. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1480574] [NEW] xcalc -rpn does not accept comma in numeric keypad as decimal mark
Public bug reported: xcalc -rpn: comma on numeric keypad does not work as decimal mark; nothing is displayed. It works, if xcalc is started without -rpn option, but it is different kind of calculator then. (European keyboard has comma there in the numeric keypad.) Comma key on numeric keypad should work as decimal mark in xcalc -rpn, too. Anyway, xcalc displays comma as desimal mark, when dot is chosen in the GUI, or when dot is pressed in keyboard (at least in my system, Finnish locale LC_NUMERIC=fi_FI.UTF-8). IMO comma should work as well. PS. xcalc has other oddities: if Num lock is on, digit keys are not effective elsewhere, but in numeric keypad, which works even if Num lock is off. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 275645] Re: xcalc has order-of-operations problems
If it were by design, what would be the calculation order rule? It calculates 2*2^2+2 so that + has higher precedence than *. apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: I can not make this happen, if I use Firefox, but it happens, if I use Chromium browser and play youtube video. Visible mouse cursor stops moving. Still I can move mouse and use it, but it is hard, when you don't see where the cursor effectively is.
