[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1890418] Re: i915 does not expose vendor-specific extended HDMI timings/modes

2020-08-06 Thread Leo Ramakersuca
Daniel I successfully ran the dpkg process as you illustrated but it
then failed to boot, so now I must manually selected the 5.4 version in
order to get to this boot. Is there a way to reverse that?

I found the information, at section 3.4 of the manual
https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/LCD%20Monitors/PB287/PB287Q_English.pdf
where VESA / IBM Modes Support Timing (DP/HDMI) reaches 4k but CEA-861
Formats Supported Timing (HDMI/MHL) only reach 1920

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1890418] Re: i915 does not expose vendor-specific extended HDMI timings/modes

2020-08-05 Thread Leo Ramakersuca
Regarding HDMI version the spec which I gave a link to claims;
True Resolution : 3840x2160 at 60Hz (DisplayPort) ,3840x2160 at 30Hz (HDMI)

Some while ago I was researching this issue and found a specification
page on the ASUS website which showed two formats for declaring the
frame rate, one extended only to the 1920 value while the other went to
the full 4K. From this I deduced that perhaps windows uses one report
format while linux uses the other. I cannot locate that page now, it may
have been taken down.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1890418] Re: i915 does not expose vendor-specific extended HDMI timings/modes

2020-08-05 Thread Leo Ramakersuca
Thanks for your work

I just bought and tried a new 4K hdmi cable, with no change. I noticed
that the monitor has TWO inputs, HDMI and HDMI/MHL (it had been plugged
into HDMI) but switching this to HDMI/MHL gave no result.

I am using MATE but the same issue occurs in several flavours of Ubuntu
that I have tried.

I dont know how to try the new kernel at
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.8/ as you requested. If I
attempt to ask Gdebi to load the
linux-image-unsigned-5.8.0-050800-generic_5.8.0-050800.202008022230_amd64.deb
package from https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.8/amd64/ it
fails with unmet dependencies.

kernel-modes.txt is attached

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1735594] Re: [regression] compiz crashes after Mesa upgrade

2018-01-12 Thread Leo Pilachowski
I did not realize that the -dev packages were also updated and in the
proposed repository. I understood from a post above that everything
would be pulled in when the libgl1-mesa-dri package was updated. I did
look for -dev updates but I could not find a way to see any of the
packages themselves on archive.ubuntu.com

Everything installs with no dependency issues now although working the
mesa based graphics hard can still cause some problems, but no more than
on other systems built before 1/4/2018.

Thanks, LP

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1735594] Re: [regression] compiz crashes after Mesa upgrade

2018-01-12 Thread Leo Pilachowski
Already tried that:

***
sudo apt -f install libegl1-mesa-dev
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 libegl1-mesa-dev : Depends: libegl1-mesa (= 17.2.4-0ubuntu1~16.04.2) but
17.2.4-0ubuntu1~16.04.3 is to be installed
Depends: libwayland-egl1-mesa (= 17.2.4-0ubuntu1~16.04.2)
but 17.2.4-0ubuntu1~16.04.3 is to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
***

Trying with aptitude to get a solution gives:

***
The following actions will resolve these dependencies:

 Downgrade the following packages:
1) libegl1-mesa [17.2.4-0ubuntu1~16.04.3 (now) -> 17.2.4-0ubuntu1~16.04.2 (x
2) libgbm1 [17.2.4-0ubuntu1~16.04.3 (now) -> 17.2.4-0ubuntu1~16.04.2 (xenial
3) libgl1-mesa-dri [17.2.4-0ubuntu1~16.04.3 (now) -> 17.2.4-0ubuntu1~16.04.2
4) libwayland-egl1-mesa [17.2.4-0ubuntu1~16.04.3 (now) -> 17.2.4-0ubuntu1~16
***

The solution is to downgrade the 4 packages that fixed the graphics
problem!

So, the proposed fix is somehow incomplete.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1735594] Re: [regression] compiz crashes after Mesa upgrade

2018-01-12 Thread Leo Pilachowski
proposed did not fix

The compiz issue is resolved but the fix breaks other dependencies and
software (ROS for example)

Just upgrading libgl1-mesa-dri from ...16.04.2 to ...16.04.3 gives
dependency errors when installing other packages such as libegl1-mesa-
dev:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 libegl1-mesa-dev : Depends: libegl1-mesa (= 17.2.4-0ubuntu1~16.04.2) but
17.2.4-0ubuntu1~16.04.3 is to be installed
Depends: libwayland-egl1-mesa (= 17.2.4-0ubuntu1~16.04.2)
but 17.2.4-0ubuntu1~16.04.3 is to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

Thanks. I saw that and that the comment on the "fix" was entered 8
minutes after my post above. But, I see there may be dependency problems
installing that fix.

There appear to be two ppa locations to get the fix for 16.04 i386:

ppa: paulo-miguel-dias / pkppa

ppa:tjaalton/ppa

Please tell us again how to get and try out the possible fix. I am
experienced but new to Ubuntu but need to get a older system up and
running asap on 16.04.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1622394] [NEW] vlc playback flicker and has delays

2016-09-11 Thread Leo Kalovyrnas
Public bug reported:

Your system is providing 3D via software rendering rather than hardware
rendering. This is a compatibility mode which should display 3D
graphics properly but the performance may be very poor. If the problem
you're reporting is related to graphics performance, your real question
may be why X didn't use hardware acceleration for your system.

Problem persists in 12.04 as of May 22nd with Nvidia drivers. Reported
this bug in several threads but seems to be consistently ignored.

As of now, this is the most annoying 'bug' in 12.04 BY FAR!!!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 733374] Re: X freeze, nvidia-current, Ubuntu 11.04 Maverick GeForce 9600GT

2012-02-11 Thread leo
I was constantly having this same bug: oneiric would crash and the logs
would state that the GPU has fallen off the bus. What I did as a
workaround was to issue the following command:

nvidia-smi -pm 1

What this does is it turns on the nvidia's driver persistence mode.
However, you have to do this every time the machine is rebooted. I have
put this command on my rc.d.

My theory is that the nvidia driver deactivates itself for some reason,
either to save power or to switch performance modes. When this happens
and X is running, there is temporarily no hardware associated with the
PCI bus. X tries to write to it, finds no driver, and then it freezes.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 736373] [NEW] monitor not working with savage driver

2011-03-16 Thread Leo Arias
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-savage

I've just installed lubuntu alternate 10.10 on a machine with a savage video
card and a monitor Samsung SyncMaster 591s.
The installation succeeded, but the monitor was black only showing a box that
says Hz ?.

I generated the xorg.conf file, and changed from the savage driver to
vesa, and now it is working.

get the files.

Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 390462] Re: Touchpad support on the Lenevo S10e

2010-09-22 Thread Leo Arias
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all
reported bugs in a timely manner.
There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and
your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a
lot if you could test the current Ubuntu development version (10.10). If you
can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload
updated logs by running apport-collect 390462, and any other logs that are
relevant for this particular issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 620278] Re: random Xorg crash

2010-08-19 Thread Leo Arias
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this
bug as a bug in xorg.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 620278] Re: random Xorg crash

2010-08-19 Thread Leo Arias
Hello Robert,

The bugs that are just assigned to Ubuntu are a lot, so we are always
trying to classify them. I don't really know if this is a problem on
xorg or kdm, and I could have made a mistake. But assigning the most
probable package is a good idea because it will call the attention to
developers of that application who can guide us to find if it is an xorg
problem or not. If with the traces we find that the problem is not in
xorg we can always change the package :)

Please follow the instructions at [1] and attach the gdb-Xorg.txt. If you have
doubts about the debugging process you can ask here or on #ubuntu-bugs and
somebody will help you.
With that information, somebody with more knowledge about xorg than me can
continue working on the bug with you.

And I'll add a link to [1] on [2] . Thanks for pointing it out.

2010-08-08 Thread Leo Arias
David Hickman, please read this:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems#Basic%20troubleshooting
If you still have problems after following that guide please ask a question at
https://answers.launchpad.net/ or if you are sure that you are experiencing a
bug, please open a separate one.

Joe Mcverry, your sound problems are not related to the touchpad
problems, so they should be separate issues. Please do the same as David
:)

I'll change the title of this issue so we can focus on the touchpad
problem...

no idea of what's the problematic package you can ask on #ubuntu-bug or
just file it to Ubuntu and wait for some triager to assign it.

some keys of your keyboard don't work (as expected) as separate
