[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1890418] Re: i915 does not expose vendor-specific extended HDMI timings/modes
Daniel I successfully ran the dpkg process as you illustrated but it then failed to boot, so now I must manually selected the 5.4 version in order to get to this boot. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1890418] Re: i915 does not expose vendor-specific extended HDMI timings/modes
I found the information, at section 3.4 of the manual https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/LCD%20Monitors/PB287/PB287Q_English.pdf where VESA / IBM Modes Support Timing (DP/HDMI) reaches 4k but CEA-861 Formats Supported Timing (HDMI/MHL) only reach 1920 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1890418 Title: i915 does not expose vendor-specific extended HDMI timings/modes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1890418/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1890418] Re: i915 does not expose vendor-specific extended HDMI timings/modes
Regarding HDMI version the spec which I gave a link to claims; True Resolution : 3840x2160 at 60Hz (DisplayPort) ,3840x2160 at 30Hz (HDMI) Some while ago I was researching this issue and found a specification page on the ASUS website which showed two formats for declaring the frame rate, one extended only to the 1920 value while the other went to the full 4K. From this I deduced that perhaps windows uses one report format while linux uses the other. I cannot locate that page now, it may have been taken down. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1890418 Title: i915 does not expose vendor-specific extended HDMI timings/modes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1890418/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1890418] Re: i915 does not expose vendor-specific extended HDMI timings/modes
Thanks for your work I just bought and tried a new 4K hdmi cable, with no change. I noticed that the monitor has TWO inputs, HDMI and HDMI/MHL (it had been plugged into HDMI) but switching this to HDMI/MHL gave no result. I am using MATE but the same issue occurs in several flavours of Ubuntu that I have tried. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1735594] Re: [regression] compiz crashes after Mesa upgrade
I did not realize that the -dev packages were also updated and in the proposed repository. I understood from a post above that everything would be pulled in when the libgl1-mesa-dri package was updated. I did look for -dev updates but I could not find a way to see any of the packages themselves on archive.ubuntu.com Everything installs with no dependency issues now although working the mesa based graphics hard can still cause some problems, but no more than on other systems built before 1/4/2018. If the problem you're reporting is related to graphics performance, your real question may be why X didn't use hardware acceleration for your system. ubuntu 16.04 LTS Intel® Core™2 CPU 6420 @ 2.13GHz × 2 Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.8, 128 bits) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+13ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.4.0-36.55-generic 4.4.16 Uname: Linux 4.4.0-36-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity_support_test.1: ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.1 Architecture: amd64 BootLog: CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true Date: Sun Sep 11 22:19:56 2016 DistUpgraded: 2016-09-11 12:24:34,299 ERROR got error from PostInstallScript ./xorg_fix_proprietary.py (Failed to execute child process "./xorg_fix_proprietary.py" (No such file or directory)) DistroCodename: xenial DistroVariant: ubuntu GraphicsCard: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 733374] Re: X freeze, nvidia-current, Ubuntu 11.04 Maverick GeForce 9600GT
I was constantly having this same bug: oneiric would crash and the logs would state that the GPU has fallen off the bus. What I did as a workaround was to issue the following command: nvidia-smi -pm 1 What this does is it turns on the nvidia's driver persistence mode. However, you have to do this every time the machine is rebooted. I have put this command on my rc.d. My theory is that the nvidia driver deactivates itself for some reason, either to save power or to switch performance modes. When this happens and X is running, there is temporarily no hardware associated with the PCI bus. X tries to write to it, finds no driver, and then it freezes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/733374 Title: X freeze, nvidia-current, Ubuntu 11.04 Maverick GeForce 9600GT To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/733374/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 620278] Re: random Xorg crash
Hello Robert, The bugs that are just assigned to Ubuntu are a lot, so we are always trying to classify them. I don't really know if this is a problem on xorg or kdm, and I could have made a mistake. But assigning the most probable package is a good idea because it will call the attention to developers of that application who can guide us to find if it is an xorg problem or not. If with the traces we find that the problem is not in xorg we can always change the package :) Please follow the instructions at [1] and attach the gdb-Xorg.txt. If you have doubts about the debugging process you can ask here or on #ubuntu-bugs and somebody will help you. With that information, somebody with more knowledge about xorg than me can continue working on the bug with you. And I'll add a link to [1] on [2] . Thanks for pointing it out.
