I also tried removing the Mesa Vulkan driver and set `export LIBVA_DRIVER_NAME=i965`. I tried the same upgrade and test on an old Sandy Bridge laptop. Everything works as expected there. Public bug reported: I have a Lenovo T440s (haswell) and an ultradock with external monitor. If I resume on the dock, wayland seems to recognize the lid as closed and suspends. The work around is to (1) open the lid, bring up the display control tab and switch to single monitor, choose the external one (on the DP); and (3) apply. Then I can close the lid. The laptop will boot correctly on the dock with the lid closed. I tried changing the dconf parameter org.gnome.settings- daemon.plugins.power to 'nothing' but that doesn't seem to matter. Obviously, this is not a critical issue, but it sure is annoying. This should "just work". Public bug reported: This report is related to a number of i915 GPU hang reports since kernel 3.8.x. The DRM in the official kernel hangs so often that it is unusble. The hang is easily reproduced by pushing the rendering system very hard. E.g. I can always make the hang within a few minutes by starting three instances of glxgears and then trying to view a youtube video full screen at HD resolution. I have found that the best solution so far is the latest bleeding edge kernels. Hence, I am opening a new report with a kernel from the intel testing series with the hope that this gets passed upstream and we get this bug resolved. I posted additional results of tests to bug #1140716 but this seems to have moved beyond that now. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1184382] [NEW] Xorg freeze
Public bug reported: These GPU hangs seem to occur when using firefox along with other applications. Although it is not reproducible, or at least, I have not been able to find a recipe for introducing it. In this case, the GPU recovered. In many cases it does not. The relevant lines from the syslog seem to be: [drm:i915_hangcheck_hung] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung [100824.307518] [drm] capturing error event; look for more information in /debug/dri/0/i915_error_state I have attached the i915 error state.
