[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1922414] Re: ssh-agent fails to start (has_option: command not found)

2023-07-06 Thread al
I also see it on Ubuntu MATE Jammy.
Will the fix come from Xorg,
or should we add LightDM to the affected projects list?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1774433] [NEW] Display on Toshiba S75-A7334 stays black

2018-05-31 Thread Al Marcenkus
Public bug reported:

When I open my notebook computer, Toshiba S75-A7334 (on Windows 10), the
screen remains black, unless I repeatedly open and close the lid. This
is terribly frustrating. I have been dealing with this for years.
Nothing I have tried has worked. I am new to this website, so I'm not
sure I am following your proper procedures. I am an average computer
user that does not write code. Any help is greatly appreciated.

** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1220426] Re: [nvidia-prime]Freeze while using touchpad

2016-07-09 Thread Zayed Amer Al-Saidi
This is bug is still persist in Kubuntu 16.4 LTS. Every time, when my
laptop (HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC) wake up from sleep the point
freezes. To get it work again I do:

xinput set-prop 12 "Device Enabled" 1

where 12 in my touch-pad device number. and sometime ctrl+alt+f2 then
ctrl+alt+f7 to get the pad accepting the clicking.

This is laptop has dual graphics cards (Nvidia GM108M [GeForce 840M] and
intel) with default to Nvidia driver nvidia-361

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1391710] [NEW] Xorg assert failure: *** Error in `/usr/bin/X': malloc(): smallbin double linked list corrupted: 0xb83bc370 ***

2014-11-11 Thread Al
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Utopic, xorg randomly crashes with machine unattended.
After the xorg crash, I am unable to access any terminals, the only way to
gracefully shut down the computer is via ssh.
No particular pattern to this, I have tried various screensavers including
non-GL ones, also disabling power management to no avail.

The crashes can occur within 30 minutes of bootup, or might not happen
for over 12 hours.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 953714] Re: X freezes if the USB headphone is plugged

2012-03-17 Thread Rami Al-Rfou'
Reading the instructions, now, I think X actually freezes it does not
actually drop a login prompt. I have to wait till get another machine to
ssh to mine while it is freezing.

There is a backtrace in the XorgLogOld.txt attached above and it is the
one that freezes X.

** Summary changed:

- X crashes if the USB headphone is plugged
+ X freezes if the USB headphone is plugged

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 775060] Re: Random GUI "freezes" in Natty (can only move the cursor)

2011-05-08 Thread Osama I. Al-Dosary
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 740126 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/740126

Its a different bug than #740126. This bug is not compiz related. I'm running
"Ubuntu Classic" not running Unity nor compiz.
What files should I submit to help narrow down this bug?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 775060] Re: Random GUI "freezes" in Natty (can only move the cursor)

2011-05-04 Thread Osama I. Al-Dosary
I confirm this bug. Running a clean install of Ubuntu Natty 11.04 on
Lenovo w510. Freezing seems random. And mouse motion continues to work
when machine frozen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 655212] Re: screensaver hangs in rare circumstances

2010-10-09 Thread Al Stone
Some follow-up: I can eliminate virt-manager as one of the variables.
This behavior can occur even if virt-manager has never been run. And
note that power saving *must* kick in; if it's just the screensaver, it
seems to work fine. If, however, both screens have blanked themselves
and powered down the backlight, this can occur (it happens more than 50%
of the time but less than 100%).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 655212] [NEW] screensaver hangs in rare circumstances

2010-10-05 Thread Al Stone
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I hesitate to report this bug because it is (1) complicated to
reproduce, and (2) therefore not likely to occur. Regardless, it does
happen and the only reliable workaround is to reboot my laptop.

To reproduce this bug, I need to:

-- run my lucid laptop with two screens, one on :0 and one on :1,
that are different sizes, with the second screen connected via HDMI

-- run virt-manager on the larger display (:1) and attempt to install
Windows 7 in a 32-bit virtual machine; all interaction with the virtual
machine must occur through the virt-manager GUI, not via VNC or other
method.

-- walk away from the laptop and display long enough for the screen
saver to kick in (mine just blanks the screen), AND long enough for
power savings mode to kick in

-- when you attempt to get the machine's attention by wiggling the
mouse or hitting shift on the keyboard, the only response is the cursor
flashing in the lower left part of the :1 display -- no password screen,
no actual control of the cursor (the mouse does not change the cursor
location),

At this point, the windowing system is completely unresponsive; logging
in from another machine via ssh and restarting gdm can sometimes work (X
does not always die), but more often than not it's necessary to reboot
the system.

If I run the same scenario but remove the second screen (i.e., do
everything on the laptop :0 alone), the screen does not lock up. It's
also not clear that virt-manager is a key part of the issue -- I can
recreate it that way, but it has occurred under other circumstances
where I do not recall if virt-manager had been running or not.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573632] Re: Exiting any windowmanager causes kdm to show just a black screen

2010-05-04 Thread Al
I'm getting the same thing, on an old Dell Inspiron 8200.
Video card is an nVidia GeForce4 440 Go, using the 96.43.17 driver.
I also tried the 96.43.16 driver with the same results.

One strange thing that I found was that using gdm for a display manager, the
problem goes away.
With gdm, I can log out, and still have a working system with terminals, and it
will log back in OK.
Using either kdm or xdm, I have nothing but black screens after logging out.

When I ssh into the computer (after logging out of KDE), top shows 99% cpu for
Xorg.
If I kill the process, then the login screen returns, and I can log back in to
KDE.

Here's the result of tail -f /var/log/Xorg.0.log as I am logging out of
KDE:

II) Video Bus: Close

Nothing after this. I'll attach the full log file.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 449196] Re: High Xorg CPU usage?

2009-10-18 Thread Al Grabauskas
Don't know if this helps hone in on the issue, but here are the symptoms
on the box I have that's similarly affected:

- it happens when i have two gui sessions on say vt7 and vt8 logged in as
different users
- as i switch back and forth between the two, the Xorg related to the vt that's
*NOT* visible goes to 100%
- sometimes it takes a minute or two after a vt switch to go up to 100%.
- when it goes to 100%, it does it suddenly - it doesn't "ramp up"
- it only saturates one of the two cores at any given time, though it does
switch back and forth between them over time.
- it does not seem to be related to a screensaver, since it happens in far less
than the 15 minutes that's set to kick in at.
- if Ii switch to a text session - say vt1, the high cpu remains with the Xorg
pid it was already saturating (i.e. the one *not* visible prior to the switch
to vt1). it doesn't saturate the other one.

This is a new karmic beta install, though I also ave an lv with a system
that I upgraded into karmic that I could still boot into. That behaved
the same way - that behavior is what drove me to try doing a new
install.

All fwiw - hope it helps. I'd be happy to supply any info about my
system that might be needed/useful.
