[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 2012832] [NEW] Xorg crashes on second and next unbind operations of Arc GPU

2023-03-26 Thread Sergey Parshev
Public bug reported:

Hello folks,

Experimenting with new Lenovo Yoga i7 with Intel Arc on board and found that
even if it's possible to disable the GPU to save power, Xorg session crashes
the session after the second attempt (the first after reb
oot works just fine).

This works like that - after poweroff/poweron of the system I execute the next
commands:
1. First attempt:

   * DRI_PRIME=1 glxinfo | grep 'OpenGL renderer' # Shows: "OpenGL renderer
string: Mesa Intel(R) Arc(tm) A370M Graphics (DG2)"
   * echo -n ":04:00.0" | sudo tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/i915/unbind  #
Works great
   * DRI_PRIME=1 glxinfo | grep 'OpenGL renderer' # Shows: "OpenGL renderer
string: Mesa Intel(R) Graphics (ADL GT2)", it's embedded graphics
   * echo -n ":04:00.0" | sudo tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/i915/bind

   * DRI_PRIME=1 glxinfo | grep 'OpenGL renderer' # Shows: "OpenGL renderer
string: Mesa Intel(R) Arc(tm) A370M Graphics (DG2)"
2. Second attempt:

   * echo -n ":04:00.0" | sudo tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/i915/unbind  # Here
the Xorg crashes, but I can login again
   * DRI_PRIME=1 glxinfo | grep 'OpenGL renderer' # Shows: "OpenGL renderer
string: Mesa Intel(R) Graphics (ADL GT2)", it's embedded graphics
   * echo -n ":04:00.0" | sudo tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/i915/bind

   * DRI_PRIME=1 glxinfo | grep 'OpenGL renderer' # Shows: "OpenGL renderer
string: Mesa Intel(R) Arc(tm) A370M Graphics (DG2)"
3. This and the next attempts are just the same as second one

I collected the info and can reproduce this state after each reboot, so
hopefully it will help you to find what's going wrong during second and next
unbind operations. I can always help with additional information if you will
need some.

Thank you

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1958576] [NEW] Option grp:alts_toggle does not work

2022-01-20 Thread Sergey
Public bug reported:

Setting grp:alts_toggle has effect, but keyboard layouts are not
actually switched by pressing both alts.

To reproduce:

$ setxkbmap -verbose 10 -option "" -option grp:alts_toggle
Setting verbose level to 10
locale is C
Trying to load rules file ./rules/evdev...
Trying to load rules file /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/evdev...
Success.
Applied rules from evdev:
rules: evdev
model: pc105
layout: us,ru,us
variant:,,
options:grp:alts_toggle
Trying to build keymap using the following components:
keycodes: evdev+aliases(qwerty)
types: complete
compat: complete
symbols:
pc+us+ru:2+us:3+inet(evdev)+level3(ralt_switch_for_alts_toggle):1+level3(ralt_switch_for_alts_toggle):3+group(alts_toggle)
geometry: pc(pc105)
$

After which Alt-Alt combo does not switch keyboard layouts.

Gnome's Win-Space setting still works to switch layouts though. Also,
setting grp:shifts_toggle using the same method does work as expected.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1875435] Re: Re-logging occurs continuously during ubuntu operation

2020-05-12 Thread Sergey
apport information

** Description changed:

I thought that I had some kind of problem with the video driver and all the
detailed logs are contained here
https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/ubuntu-kernel-v5-6-v5-7-for-hp-omen-17t-bc000-gforce-rtx2080-unstable-driver-nvidia-linux-x86-64-440-82-run/120027/25
But I installed ubuntu 20.04 and the problem is repeated not only on new
kernels ubuntu 5.6 and 5.7.0-rc but also on kernel 5.4 with the Nouveau driver
The system constantly logs onto the standard screen and requires a password
to close all current programs

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1875435] Re: Re-logging occurs continuously during ubuntu operation

2020-05-12 Thread Sergey
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected focal possible-manual-nvidia-install
ubuntu

** Description changed:

I thought that I had some kind of problem with the video driver and all the
detailed logs are contained here
https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/ubuntu-kernel-v5-6-v5-7-for-hp-omen-17t-bc000-gforce-rtx2080-unstable-driver-nvidia-linux-x86-64-440-82-run/120027/25
But I installed ubuntu 20.04 and the problem is repeated not only on new
kernels ubuntu 5.6 and 5.7.0-rc but also on kernel 5.4 with the Nouveau driver
The system constantly logs onto the standard screen and requires a password
to close all current programs

I booted from the kernel version 5.4.0-31-generic without the nvidia

2020-04-28 Thread Sergey
I tried to restore my old system to the ubuunt 19.10 from the disk image.
Install kernel 5.6.7 and nvidia 440.82 driver
The log that is higher is from this version. And as in the case of pure ubunta,
I again caught an error with relogin

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1875435] Re: Re-logging occurs continuously during ubuntu operation

2020-04-27 Thread Sergey
The laptop screen flashes unexpectedly, sometimes it is accompanied by a
freeze of open windows, after which a screen with a user selection and
password entry is displayed, as if the ubunta has just been downloaded.
All windows and programs are killed. However, loaded services with data
such as docker remain.

Please read the history of correspondence with nvidia
https://forums.developer.nvidia.com/t/ubuntu-kernel-v5-6-v5-7-for-hp-
omen-17t-bc000-gforce-rtx2080-unstable-driver-nvidia-
linux-x86-64-440-82-run/120027/25 there are logs and screenshots. I
thought the driver was to blame, but when I installed a clean ubuntu on
20.04, I found a problem on it without a driver

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1798961] Re: Random unrecoverable freezes on Ubuntu 18.10

2020-01-02 Thread Sergey
Addition: neither #42 nor #58 doesn't help. The problem persists in
19.10 too.

This laptop had the same issue in Win10. I reinstalled it from
Microsoft's ISO (to exclude potential bugs in Dell soft) and problem was
gone.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1798961] Re: Random unrecoverable freezes on Ubuntu 18.10

2019-12-28 Thread Sergey
I confirm Solution #58 (add `ahci.mobile_lpm_policy=0` to boot options
works great). Thanks @prasanth-s-cmi!

It fixed freezes and "didn't wake up" problem on Dell Latitute 7390 2018
year manufactured.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1552040] Re: [Lenovo ThinkPad T440s] Laptop sometimes doesn't detect external monitor

2018-08-11 Thread Sergey Menshikov
My workaround is to enable GuC firmware loading and boot without the
dock attached.

Kernel 4.15.0.30 Ubuntu 18.04.1 Xorg/Gnome Lenovo 4th gen X1 20FBxxx
Skylake i7 Intel built-in video

Looks like this is some kind of race condition related to DisplayPort
Multi-Stream mode (DP-MST). This is why multi-monitor docking stations
are affected. A race is happening, with system attempting modesetting
upon disconnect of the mst dock, which leaves the connector enabled.
Error messages upon disconnect:

[drm:intel_dp_start_link_train [i915]] *ERROR* failed to enable link training
[drm:intel_mst_pre_enable_dp [i915]] *ERROR* failed to allocate vcpi

Next connection leads to black screen. Multiple error messages upon
connect:

[drm:intel_wait_ddi_buf_idle [i915]] *ERROR* Timeout waiting for DDI BUF
C idle bit

Related cases I've found:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1552040
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=73705

Workaround:

sudo vi /etc/modprobe.d/i915.conf

options i915 enable_guc_loading=1 enable_guc_submission=1

sudo update-initramfs -u
sudo reboot

always reboot while disconnected from DP MST dock

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1552040] Re: Laptop sometimes doesn't detect external monitor

2018-02-15 Thread Sergey Menshikov
Ubuntu 17.10 Gnome/Xorg Lenovo 4th gen X1 20FBxxx Skylake i7 Intel built-in
video
Kernel 4.13.0-32-generic #35-Ubuntu SMP

When connecting Thinkpad Dock with 2 Dell monitors, screen locks up
(mouse is moving though) and is not responding. Monitors are not
recognized. Unlocks 20 sec after disconnect. Happens every time after
first connection following a reboot (first connection after reboot is
OK)

dmesg shows a lot of:
drm:intel_wait_ddi_buf_idle [i915_bpo]] *ERROR* ...

Workaround:

sudo vi /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf

paste:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Intel Graphics"
Driver "intel"
Option "DRI" "3"
EndSection

reboot
The issue does not return, unless the above file it removed.

The drivers works fine for me though. (PowerColor R9 280X) I just enabled
wily-proposed in Software & Upgrades, then did `apt-get update` and then
`apt-get dist-upgrade` (but before doing it I did `apt-cache policy
fglrx-updates` to make sure there's a new version of the package and it's
"2:15.201-0ubuntu2~15.10.1" and not something else).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1493888] Re: FGLRX incompatible with kernel 4.2

2015-10-24 Thread Sergey Kislyakov
Compiling the fglrx-installer with gcc 4.9 fixed this problem, but it's a
workaround and not the fix. (I guess).
You can get the patch here:
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/219738583/fglrx-installer-15.201_force-gcc_4.9.patch
Don't forget to freeze the fglrx-* packages after installing the fixed debs or
Ubuntu could update your drivers and replace them with the broken drivers.

2015-10-22 Thread Sergey Kislyakov
I've downloaded your patch and applied it to the source code of
`fglrx-updates-core` (or `fglrx-installer`) and created deb's file from the
patched source code. I got 4 deb files and installed them and.. it works!
Thanks for this patch :)
But now I have to freeze `fglrx-updates` and `fglrx-updates-core` because apt
wants to update them via upgrade/dist-upgrade and I have no idea why.

Just update your version to 15.04, and your problem will solve. You could
found it in additional drivers

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 518056]

2015-04-11 Thread Sergey V. Udaltsov
Preliminary we have abandoned the idea to fix this in xkeyboard-config, and
are now trying to make use of x11 compose instead.

Nevertheless, if it is at all possible to achieve the desired behavior with
xkeyboard-config only, it would probably be the most robust solution, and
also most convenient for the users. Do you possibly have an idea whether it
 can be done?
The way you describe it, it is really for compose. So I am marking this bag as
NOTOURBUG.
