[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1318314] Re: brightness adjustment does not work on Thinkpad E145
Hi cosama, I wanted to install a fresh new ubuntu and try your advices, but it appears that all is supported out-of-the-box on the very last ubuntu 14.10 ! Backlight works well :) (I just had an issue with wifi, but while checking additional drivers fixed it) Anyway, thanks for your help ! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1318314 Title: brightness adjustment does not work on Thinkpad E145 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1318314/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1318314] Re: brightness adjustment does not work on Thinkpad E145
Hi tom, Not sure, I followed the description above, from a fresh buntu-gnome 14.04 install and it still works perfectly. Do have the radon_bl0 brightness control folder? Check by typing in a terminal: ls /sys/class/backlight/radeon_bl0 If so what happens if you type into the terminal: sudo bash -c echo 10 /sys/class/backlight/radeon_bl0/brightness Did you update your grub after setting the boot parameters? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1318314] Re: brightness adjustment does not work on Thinkpad E145
Hi @cosama, With your method, I havea flash of the brightness to the value I set, but it quickly go back to the old value. I have Xorg drivers. Do you have an idea of what I could do ? Is there any plan to fix this issue ? It makes linux nearly unusable with this computer.
I just got a brand new Thinkpad E145 and had the same problem after a new install of ubuntu-gnome 14.04 (BIOS 2.02). After trying out all possible combinations of kernel parameters and drivers I finally found a solution that worked for me. I had to disable the fglrx drivers and use the X org xserver driver. Then I used the kernel parameters (/etc/default/grub): GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash acpi_backlight=vendor video.use_native_backlight=1 quiet splash was set by standard. I tried also acpi_osi options but with these options I couldn't get it running. The backlight then appears as /sys/class/backlight/radeon_bl0/ and can be changed by setting the level in the brightness file in that folder (0-255). When I had fglrx running, I had the impression the driver over ruled the brightness setting, it always reverted back to a standard value. It is not a perfect solution, I would prefer being capable of using fglrx but for now I can live with it.
I have the same problem as well, but this is on a Thinkpad T510 (about 5 years old). This is with the Nvidia graphs card and the Nvidia 331.38 driver (the Noveau driver doesn't work -- it consistently core dumps after suspend/resume). ** Attachment added: Xorg.0.org (Xorg Server log file) https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1318314/+attachment/4180141/+files/Xorg.0.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1318314 Title: brightness adjustment does not work on Thinkpad E145 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1318314/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1318314] Re: brightness adjustment does not work on Thinkpad E145
It appears this bug is fairly well known. Here's an article called Fix Brightness Control Not Working for Ubuntu 14.04 Linux Mint 17 at http://itsfoss.com/fix-brightness-ubuntu-1310/ . Unfortunately, the fix listed is only for the Intel Video card. For what its worth, the brightness control worked fine on this laptop with Ubuntu 10.04.
