[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1514827] Re: Xorg fails to start after upgrade 15.04 -> 15.10

2015-11-22 Thread CoolEsza
Ok.. sorry for the delay. I booted a live image of
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/.
With that I can access the default window manager -> Either problem solved by
upgrade, or something has gone rogue in m< system during upgrade or it has to
do with GDM
Should I try to install this version over my system ?

Thanks for your patience.

CoolEsza, if you boot into a kernel from a prior release (i.e. <=3.19)
is this still reproducible?

To be more complete in the answer: No, updating the BIOS did not solve
the issue. Its still reproducible.

2015-11-16 Thread CoolEsza
Thank you for getting into this.
I updated the bios with the proposed 1.38 version.

the dmidecode commands output the following:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
output the following:
V1.38
06/08/2015

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1514827] Re: Xorg fails to start after upgrade 15.04 -> 15.10

2015-11-14 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
CoolEsza, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

As per http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers an update to your
computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (1.38). If you update to
this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it
change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the
information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New.
Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.
