Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1668451] Re: update manager reports system of packages is broken
Many, many, many thanks!! It worked. I do apologize for checking the security box: I thought it was a security problem because I couldn't get the security updates installed, even though I followed all the instructions given to fix it, repeatedly, over the course of several days -- unfortunately the instructions didn't mention I needed to add "sudo" at the beginning. Anyway, it worked. I am a 65-year-old grandmother with no formal training at all in computers although I've managed to figure out how to use them over the last 17 years. but I love Ubuntu and really appreciate your very kind assistance. Also, in order to run apt-get update, you will need to have administrative privileges, usually gained through the sudo command, like so: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade This should prompt you for your password, if your account is considered to be an admin on this system. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1668451 Title: update manager reports system of packages is broken To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1668451/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1668451] Re: update manager reports system of packages is broken
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find. ** Information type changed from Private Security to Public -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1668451 Title: update manager reports system of packages is broken To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1668451/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
