Thanks. Incomplete now, while you can't reproduce the issue. I suspect this bug might be firmware related. The issue does not happen anymore with the current configuration, even without having xserver-xorg-video-nouveau uninstalled. Maybe another package I've installed recently supplied the required files... Please attach details of the graphics hardware and drivers by running: lspci -k > lspci-k.txt And attach the resulting two text files. P.S. The nouveau driver is known to be buggy. It should be installed somehow. When I installed ubuntu I was running the discrete graphics card so nvidia proprietary drivers installed automatically.
