[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 805211] Re: AMD RADEON HD 6450 random pixels on display
Just wanted to add that Dave Airlie sent me a patch{0] in the FreeDesktop Bug Tracker[1] for this same issue which fixed the problem for me. Would be great to have this patch included for the oneiric kernel if possible, it would make Ubuntu work for people with HD6450 cards out of the box. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 805211] Re: AMD RADEON HD 6450 random pixels on display
I haven't tried it myself, but looks promising. Moving over to the kernel, though it's not going to help oneiric since the kernel freeze is in effect (which means the kernel for the final installation image is already set in stone). ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Assignee: Timo Aaltonen (tjaalton) = (unassigned) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/805211 Title: AMD RADEON HD 6450 random pixels on display To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-driver-ati/+bug/805211/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 805211] Re: AMD RADEON HD 6450 random pixels on display
** Attachment added: Screen photo https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/805211/+attachment/2189555/+files/radeon_bug.JPG ** Description changed: I'm trying to use a AMD RADEON HD 6450 video card, but it fails to show a login screen, see screen photo attached. I've tried different kernel (2.6.38-8, 2.6.38-10, 2.6.39-3) and driver versions (from main repository and from xorg-edgers ppa), no success. The fglrx drivers makes a SegFault on my system. I tried to use vesa and removed packages, related to radeon, but it still does not show the login screen correctly, see the same screen photo. - In kern.log I see: - kernel: [6.345573] [drm:r600_ring_test] *ERROR* radeon: ring test failed (scratch(0x8504)=0xCAFEDEAD) - ... - kernel: [8.981011] [ cut here ] - kernel: [8.981032] WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.38/drivers/gpu/drm/radeon/radeon_gart.c:176 radeon_gart_bind+0x1ab/0x1c0 [radeon]() - kernel: [8.981034] Hardware name: - kernel: [8.981035] trying to bind memory to unitialized GART ! - kernel: [8.981036] Modules linked in: snd_hda_codec_hdmi snd_usb_audio snd_hda_codec_realtek snd_hda_intel snd_hda_codec snd_pcm snd_hwdep snd_usbmidi_lib snd_seq_midi snd_rawmidi hwmon_vid snd_seq_midi_event lm75 snd_seq coretemp snd_timer snd_seq_device radeon ttm drm_kms_helper keucr(C) snd psmouse usb_storage drm soundcore uas uvcvideo videodev xhci_hcd v4l2_compat_ioctl32 snd_page_alloc i2c_algo_bit serio_raw joydev lp shpchp parport usbhid hid ahci e1000e libahci - kernel: [8.981053] Pid: 298, comm: plymouthd Tainted: G C 2.6.38-10-generic #46-Ubuntu - kernel: [8.981054] Call Trace: - kernel: [8.981059] [81065cbf] ? warn_slowpath_common+0x7f/0xc0 - kernel: [8.981061] [81065db6] ? warn_slowpath_fmt+0x46/0x50 - kernel: [8.981066] [a018dd65] ? ttm_mem_global_alloc_page+0x55/0x60 [ttm] - kernel: [8.981073] [a02124fb] ? radeon_gart_bind+0x1ab/0x1c0 [radeon] - kernel: [8.981080] [a020fe82] ? radeon_ttm_backend_bind+0x32/0x90 [radeon] - kernel: [8.981083] [a018e858] ? ttm_tt_bind+0x58/0x80 [ttm] - kernel: [8.981086] [a0190904] ? ttm_bo_handle_move_mem+0x194/0x3d0 [ttm] - kernel: [8.981089] [81155501] ? kmem_cache_alloc_trace+0x61/0x120 - kernel: [8.981092] [a0191982] ? ttm_bo_move_buffer+0x142/0x160 [ttm] - kernel: [8.981101] [a011d69a] ? drm_mm_get_block_generic+0x4a/0xb0 [drm] - kernel: [8.981104] [a0191a36] ? ttm_bo_validate+0x96/0x120 [ttm] - kernel: [8.981106] [a0191c78] ? ttm_bo_init+0x1b8/0x260 [ttm] - kernel: [8.981113] [a02111f7] ? radeon_bo_create+0x147/0x2a0 [radeon] - kernel: [8.981119] [a0210f50] ? radeon_ttm_bo_destroy+0x0/0xc0 [radeon] - kernel: [8.981127] [a022833c] ? radeon_gem_object_create+0x8c/0x120 [radeon] - kernel: [8.981135] [a0228788] ? radeon_gem_create_ioctl+0x58/0xd0 [radeon] - kernel: [8.981137] [811309aa] ? handle_pte_fault+0xfa/0x210 - kernel: [8.981141] [a0112384] ? drm_ioctl+0x3e4/0x4c0 [drm] - kernel: [8.981148] [a0228730] ? radeon_gem_create_ioctl+0x0/0xd0 [radeon] - kernel: [8.981151] [815c6f78] ? do_page_fault+0x258/0x540 - kernel: [8.981153] [81134a58] ? unmap_region+0x158/0x170 - kernel: [8.981156] [811764cf] ? do_vfs_ioctl+0x8f/0x360 - kernel: [8.981158] [81176831] ? sys_ioctl+0x91/0xa0 - kernel: [8.981160] [8100c002] ? system_call_fastpath+0x16/0x1b - kernel: [8.981161] ---[ end trace e4f80f4306a25281 ]--- - kernel: [8.981163] [drm:radeon_ttm_backend_bind] *ERROR* failed to bind 2025 pages at 0x - kernel: [8.981341] radeon :01:00.0: object_init failed for (8294400, 0x0002) - kernel: [8.981343] [drm:radeon_gem_object_create] *ERROR* Failed to allocate GEM object (8294400, 2, 4096, -22) + The logs and info attached automatically are from the situation where a + vesa driver expected to be used.
