the bug remained for several days. - not sure if it got fixed till release (don't think so) In the end - reinstalling nvidia-common fixed it. I used to have auto login in Mythbuntu 10.04. After reintroducing it, I foung it as a workaround also to this black screen bug. I had a similar issue on bug #865768.
