Like I said, I added the drivers SATA drivers (using a different
method), and the CD by itself works fine now.

However, unattended it does not work under unattended.

I don't think it is a driver problem - it dies too quick for that - it
wouldn't have time to look for drivers even if they were there.

Well, that is already in place on the master file:

[Unattended] 4.8-rc2 and partitioning/formatting the hdd

2008-04-15 Thread Jens Geile
Hi,

at the moment I'm still using the following lines to partition and format the
local harddisk of the client I want to install (didn't change them since
pre-4.7)...

[_meta]
fdisk_cmds = fdisk /clear 1;fdisk 1 /pri:4000;fdisk /activate:1
format_cmd = format /y /z:seriously /q /u /a /v: c:

What are the prefered commands for using with unattended 4.8-rc2?

I'm currently experiencing some really weird bugs where the bootsector of the
local harddisk gets screwed up and the machine refuses to boot. Only way to
solve this is to run unattended again. :/

Also the mysterious bluescreen I reported sometime last week happened on two
other machines after that. The first really had a majorly fucked RAM module, on
the second one memtest only found one error but on the third machine no errors
where found in the ram module. I somehow really doubt that out of 3 (almost)
new machines 3 machines have faulty RAM.
The bluescreen always occurs after Windows Setup is done (after the screen with
the countdown on the left). Never before that.
The error displayed is STOP 0×007e and some other hex stuff but NO
filename...

Any ideas on this? Never had any problems like this with 4.7. :/

 Hi,

 at the moment I'm still using the following lines to partition and format
 the local harddisk of the client I want to install (didn't change them
 since pre-4.7)...

 [_meta]
 fdisk_cmds = fdisk /clear 1;fdisk 1 /pri:4000;fdisk /activate:1

Just use what fits youre needs, if you find a setting thats not working,
scream up :-)

 format_cmd = format /y /z:seriously /q /u /a /v: c:

Not used when using nt5x-install. ie, its ignored.
It is used under dosemu/winnt.exe

 What are the prefered commands for using with unattended 4.8-rc2?

nothing special, but replace_mbr = 1 seems like a good idea right now.

 I'm currently experiencing some really weird bugs where the bootsector of
 the local harddisk gets screwed up and the machine refuses to boot. Only
 way to solve this is to run unattended again. :/

 Also the mysterious bluescreen I reported sometime last week happened on
 two other machines after that. The first really had a majorly fucked RAM
 module, on the second one memtest only found one error but on the third
 machine no errors where found in the ram module. I somehow really doubt
 that out of 3 (almost) new machines 3 machines have faulty RAM. The
 bluescreen always occurs after Windows Setup is done (after the screen with
 the countdown on the left). Never before that. The error displayed is STOP
 0×007e and some other hex stuff but NO filename...

 Any ideas on this? Never had any problems like this with 4.7. :/

I have no idea, but there is something more somewhere.
the T61' is complaining about tsc and a time offset, and I also have noticed
that the unpacking of initrd (the dots) are slower on some machines.
Even if the machines are brand new with the same spec.

Well, I was wondering if I have to change anything if i want to use parted
specifically. Or is parted used automagically when using nt5x-install?

  format_cmd = format /y /z:seriously /q /u /a /v: c:

Ah, sorry. Forgot to copy the whole stuff..

Hm, the only other thing I noticed is that copying the Windows CD to the local
harddisk is taking longer than with 4.7.

 ok, I commit a change on the Repository could you update and test it?

Your change is on unattended-4.8-rc2 or in the cvs repository ?

I think it basically is chmod, run on the server of the appropriate CVS

What happens when you try to boot? Black screen?

Sounds almost like my problem. Except in my case, running unattended
again produced the same results.

Sounds about right... Still, I don't know what could be wrong.

 I have seen this, I had to zero out the mbr and partition table:

 dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/dsk count=1024
 (not tested, Im not sure of the count parameter)

I have replace_mbr = 1 - surely this should be sufficient?
