Re: [UC] Zoning notice is up on Locust St side of former stores at 45th St SE corner

2007-09-22 Thread Karen Heenan
I spoke to someone who works at the Other Green Line this morning.
Apparently they are going to be moving to 45th Street, opening in January.
He didn't know a lot, other than the time frame, but said he also believed
there was going to be an expanded menu at the new location. Considering
that we had to sit outside on the damp metal seats, I'll be happy for
expanded seating at the new location.

A zoning notice has been posted on the Locust Street side of what used
to be
three stores on the SE corner of 45th Locust. Not much detail.

Rumor has it that the Other Green Line, currently located on the 4300
block of Locust, will be moving to this space.

I noticed that when they cleaned out the storefront units, they knocked
holes in the units' walls so you can walk between them on the inside. If
the rumor is true, it looks like the OGL's new space will be a lot bigger
than its current location next to the laundromat.

I'm not sure why a cafe would need a zoning variance though. Is it so
 they can prepare food inside?

[UC] another window breakin

2007-09-22 Thread S. Scheckter

hi, all,

my house on the 4700 block of hazel was broken into last night, or rather
early this morning. someone cut the screen of an open window and took
electronics and items in the living room, then let him/herself out via the
front door. no one was hurt or injured, and no one saw the burglar, as far
as i know.

i know this kind of crime has been happening a lot over the last few
months in UC, so just wanted to tell people.

what kinds of precautions are people taking to prevent this sort of crime?

Was it a first floor window? Have you considered not leaving your windows open
at
night?

If a first-floor window, have you also considered bars for your windows?
Bars + open windows is one option, no bars + closed windows is another.
